Enes Kanter to Portland!

It's an exciting move. I think this helps us out immediately! This guy is a double double machine. Perhaps he makes our defense more porous, and doesn't particularly help us reliably space the floor. He takes minutes from Collins and Leonard as well.

Having a starting caliber player come off our bench helps us compete immediately. I think this addition can make a huge difference come playoff time.

fit

I think that's a poor fit for him if he's looking to play big minutes (although, I don't know what his other offers were). But he'll be behind Nurkic and then have to fight for minutes with Collins (who is more mobile and a better defender) and Leonard (he's not that great, but he can spread the floor). Was hoping he could go somewhere where he could play bigger minutes and rack up a bunch of double doubles (I have him on a couple fantasy teams, so that's just me being selfish).

Given the circumstances,

Given the circumstances, Portland acquired an NBA starting caliber starter and is using him as a super sub. Dennis Schroeder performs this role in OKC and it makes a difference. I think it does in Portland as well. I think Kanter will provide energy and low post scoring, and it is very important to have a low post player to get easy points and an offensive rebounder with Kanter's tenacity. I think this is a rather large victory.

He is not a perfect fit, but his skillset is one Portland can make use of.

Fit

I wasn't saying Portland wouldn't want him. Why wouldn't they want a double double machine coming off the bench? I'm saying it's an odd choice for Kanter who was sounding like all he wants to do is play, and play a lot. Then he signs with a team who has a centre that is similar to him (slow footed, rebounder) but better and having to compete with younger guys who are more athletic than you and offer things you don't (defense, three point shooting).

I just read that the Lakers were another team talking to him. I feel like that would have been a better fit for Kanter as he can handle more minutes than McGee and Chandler and is a better rebounder/post scorer than both of them.

He's unplayable in a series

He's unplayable in a series against Golden St., Houston and maybe Denver.

I was wondering the other day, is there any difference between Kanter, Jahlil Okafor, Greg Monroe and Boban? with the latter three, coaches figured out right away, or pretty early, that they were hurting their teams even when they put up 20-10. It seems like Kanter just got lucky that he ended up in situations where he was given minutes anyway, so he had a couple of seasons with all-star level offensive numbers.

They aren't the same.

For example Monroe is just plan slow. No matter what he does he can't over come that. Kanter isn't even close to that slow or looking like he's a robot moving like Monroe. With Kanter I'm not sure what it is, but it's not because he's like Monroe.

I have limited experience watching Okafor, but he didn't seem like Monroe either. Like Monroe might be the slowest moving guy in the NBA. He's skilled, can score in the paint, but wow he can barely move. Okafor looked like a much more fluid athlete.

Kanter is dumb as rocks for

Kanter is dumb as rocks for this move. Go to pdx to back up Nurk and share minutes with Collins..Plus have no shot at a title. At least with Lebron you get that prime time shine for future contracts. Pdx to me is a wasteland for over drafted scrubs.

Anyone else experiencing

Anyone else experiencing horrible spam? This site is garbage. I don’t want the drama of the Turkish feds chasing after one of my players. Another dumb move by olshey. When will a reasonable GM be hired now that the lunatic Paul Allen is dead.

He can get a double double in

He can get a double double in 20mins, but often so can his man. It's an odd choice I agree - Nurkic, Collins, Leonard, Labissiere and now Kanter all have to split minutes at the 5. He's obviously got issues if he can't get time for the Knicks. Not sure he's worth the locker room gamble or as mentioned above if he's even playable against the Warriors, Rockets or other mobile West teams.

He is redundant on the roster

He is redundant on the roster with nurkic (a better player) already there. My guess is that Portland most likely just uses him as insurance in case one of their bigs gets hurt. If Portland wants to give nurkic a night off down the stretch in the regular season, they have the luxury of plugging kanter in and not losing much. But I wouldn’t expect him to play much of a role at all once the playoffs begin. Even though kanter is an accomplished player in the league, there were probably better options for Portland on the buyout market.

Portland has some sets where

Portland has some sets where they play Leonard and or Collins as PF's. Not sure if we would ever see this with Kanter but I'm sure they will try it. Theres still some teams that like having size at the PF position like Denver with Plumlee.

Either way even if he doesnt play a single minute signing Kanter means no other team out West signs him.
