valentineIf we redid the last draft how do you think it would go? first 10 I think:
Chicago-Derrick Rose
Miami-Brook Lopez (need a big man more then a sf)
Minnesota-OJ Mayo
OKC-Russell Westbrook
Memphis-Eric Gordon
NYK-DJ Augustin
LAC-Michael Beasley
Mil-Jason Thompson
Cha-Mario Chalmers
NJ-Marreese Speightsor something like that. Those are my top 10 rookies at least in some kinda order

jleung1ParticipantCHI – Rose
MIA – B.Lopez
MIN – Westbrook (better PG to allow Foye play SG)
OKC – Augustin (third best PG prospect)
MEM – Mayo
NYK – Beasley (good fit to D’Antoni)
LAC – Gordon
MIL – Thompson
CHA – Gallinari (need of shooting)
NJN – Speights (big man needed)
IND – Chalmers (more solid PG prospect)
SAC – Randolph (one of building block)
POR – Love (banger down load)
GSW – Bayless (lack PG)0 - Posted on: Mon, 04/13/2009 - 3:37pm #145611

WälseParticipanti still think beasley belongs in the second slot. when he gets on the court his talent is evident. i think its only a matter of time before he breaks out. i dont think spoelstra is doing him any favors, using him the way that he is. i refuse to believe that any of the players that you fellas have listed in front of him, outside of Rose, will have better NBA careers. fact is, beasley is just more talented than those guys, and once he’s firmly entrenched as a starter, i think we’ll all see it. these things take time for some players. i also wouldnt discount Love just yet & Bayless isnt on a rebuilding team like some of the others, so he isnt gonna get as much run. notice the players you fellas have listed at the top are almost all on bad teams which means they’re gonna get a ton of minutes.

scg1Completely agree, except Westbrook has as much talent as Beasley.

henryoh90612Participantwestbrook wasnt even considered a big prospect out of high school and he has come so far because of his athleticism… i think his potential is still big.
love’s ceiling isnt high but i think he would still be in lottery… him going to portland does make sense since he’s from oregon…0 - Posted on: Mon, 04/13/2009 - 7:09pm #145624
payingattentionParticipantI have no argument with any of this as of today, but three years from now a whole lot of fans will be wondering how their team passed on Anthony Randolph. Nobody quite like him in the NBA: 6’10, a scorer, shot-blocker, point-forward skills and tremendous rebounder, especially offensive. And as the only teenager in the NBA, he may still be growing. He’s become dynamite for Golden State late in this season and as his frame fills out, he’ll only get stronger.

MasrockHe’s having a very solid rookie campaign and he’s still only 20. I read something about him leading all rookies in Effiency as well. He definitely isn’t the slow, white bust that some people have pegged him.

tli232I really think Beasley might even slip out of the lottery based on his atrocious attitude and Lax efforts on D. (I seriously do not see much improvement in his D since the beginning of the year; makes me doubt his ability to stay on the floor) Most GMs are smart; they know it is much easier to teach a slightly less talented, but willing to improve, kid to be great than a more talented prospect who’s a total knucklehead.

Stanford hoopsParticipantwhat makes you think beasley has a atrocious attitude?..this is based on what?…ive watched every game of maimis this year and havent read anything about him and attitude problems..his coach says he has a great attitude and his teammates say the same thing so im wondering where youre getting that info from?

KATASTROPHEParticipantNo Love for Love??? He is avg 11 and 9 as a rookie (thats almost a double double)
Just to throw it out there…..
1. CHI – Rose
2. MIA – B. Easy
3. MIN – Westbrook
4. OKC – Lopez
5. MEM – Mayo
6. NYK – Augustin
7. LAC – Love
8. MIL – Gordon
9. CHA – Thompson
10. NJN – Randolph
11. IND – Bayless
12. SAC – Chalmers
13. POR – Speights0 - Posted on: Mon, 04/13/2009 - 8:16pm #145636
Csharp3410ParticipantI dont think Miami would of taken Beasley. I think Lopez or Mayo. They might not even traded Marion if they had Lopez down low.

tuck243ParticipantFirst, if Beasley played for Memphis and avg. 25 n 5, would you say the samething you’re saying now?
What games have you been watching? Beasley shown improvement on the defensive end. He’s by far not a good defensive player but a better one… Mike has the top-3 player in the league on his team, and you think if he played for Memphis he wouldn’t do more? His touches would increase and his team will go to him… The Heat played the Celtics recently without Wade and Mike scored like 3 buckets str8 n had a block (late 4th QT). Do you know his team stopped going to him (hot hand), instead they went to O’neal and sub in Haslem for him? He wasn’t picked (Bayless too) to be a savior to a franchise, so don’t expect him to go out n get touches like he is one…
And on top of that he’s a ROOKIE!!!! WE are all spoilled with this draft class… Let him put up these numbers with next year’s rookies and I am sure he would be in the running for ROY… Do YALL realize that if KD didn’t put up those ridiculous shots n the ROOKIE/SOPH game that B-Eazy woulda won MVP? Meaning he was the best player (showing) on the floor for a good percentage of the game?
Im not saying he plays up to his talent, because he relies too much on his jumper. But when everything connects for him who is going to be able to guard him? He’s too strong for a NBA 3 and too fast (with a jumper) for a NBA 4… YALL are forgetting that he was the best player in COLLEGE last year hands down……………. So don’t count out the 19 year old ROOKIE just yet….

MasrockHe would still go 2 to the Heat. The T-Wolves would probably keep Mayo because of the huge disappointment Mike Miller has been. Love has been actually better than most expected, but he doesn’t have a jumpshot yet, and he really needs to get into better shape. His potential is actually pretty high if he does that.

mamadouParticipantNba playa is a beast, my men randolph can do everything.
Run like a gazelle, handle like a guard, fast, high, long as hell, the kid is an awesome hustler(crazy efficiency), a point forward, need 2 add some bulk, work on his midrange game and FT, but he has all the tools, no holes.
14th pick, are you kidding me, LOL at mike d’antoni and his homer, the kid was the perfect fit, the forward of the future, not a power, not a small, just a great.
Was very high on him before the draft, watch all his summer leagues games, saw what i want to see(same thing for speights), not enough games and playing times this season but we all know the nellie rule, undrafted, NBDL playas before lotto picks…when he plays, it makes noise.
A word on love, 3 inch vertical but a beast on boards, in offensive boards, not only rookies, but the entire league, high IQ, will develop his mid range game, solid pro, solid team playa.
Surprised by westbrook but in a weak team and with watson, u have a huge playing time, very nice rookie season for gordon, 18pts as a starter with nice numbers at shooting(the kid will soon make 200 3pters per seasons).
Speights is a lotto pick, when u saw what will fall in the next draft, it hurt…more potential, upside than thompson(who was more “nba ready” and member of the softest team ever, it help numbers).0 - Posted on: Tue, 04/14/2009 - 2:32am #145648
jojososaParticipantNo way beasley drops past 3rd, but i think he still deserves tha number 2 pick, and i dnt think gordon slips outta tha top 5

edoom06ParticipantTuck I agree with you totally. Old dude is obviously a Beasley hater who hasnt seen any heat games.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 04/14/2009 - 5:13am #145658
Pistol Pete. The PelicanParticipantbeasley would still be 2, spoelstra is just an idiot since beasley’s been starting he’s averaging around 19 and 8 and he been showing why he was the number 2 pick, spoelstra’s excuse was he can’t play defense, well you knew that before you drafted him at 2 don’t bench him for it..honestly how many “real defenders do we have in the nba these days anyway”
0 - Posted on: Tue, 04/14/2009 - 9:16am #145705
DY_nastyParticipantSo throwing around ‘rookie’ and his age doesn’t make much sense. Also, everyone knows that end of the season stats are inflated because half the teams in the league (in the east no less) are in full fledged tank mode. Anyone’s gonna grab a few extra boards when Sean May is guarding them. Beasley is still a top 5 pick but I think that everyone in Miami still gets hot and bothered whenever they imagine Wade and Mayo in the same backcourt.
Beasley’s defense though… I don’t even think its fair to put much weight into that discussion this year because of how Miami plays defense. All they do is jump passing lanes since the team is so undersized and shallow inside. Jermaine needing to change his tampon every 12 minutes doesn’t help them too much either.
It just seems like everyone’s been making excuses for Beasley since his great season at K. State. Yeah he’s not that tall, yeah he needs to get stronger, yeah his work ethic is questionable, yeah his defense is suspect, yeah his coach won’t play him, ***yeah they brought in somebody who’s already old and busted to do his job for him because he simply cannot perform the job that he was brought in to do***
0- Posted on: Wed, 04/15/2009 - 6:13pm #146019
Stanford hoopsParticipantwhat hasnt beasley done that he was brought in to do? he wasnt brought in to be the top scorer ont he team that would be wade..beasley is the second leading scorer on the team as a 6th man…its funny how every one says hes not doing this or that but yall dont take into account that hes is playing on a playoff team and hes comming off the bench..its alot easier for d rose westbrook gordan and mayo because they have the ball in there hands alot more then fowards and centers thats why the top rookie scorers are guards unless youre name is shaq..beasley is doing exactly what the heat need him to do..i dont really agree with him comming off the bench but anyone who has watched him when he plays sees how good he his…you giive him the same minutes as these other rookies and his numbers would be alot better or put him on minny or okc or memphis and his numbers would be alot better

sheltwon3ParticipantPeople do not realize how good this guy is. He has shown flashes of what he can do and also he has improved his defense and ability to play with a superstar in Dwayne Wade and the is hard to do for even veteran players. Beastley is doing fine. Wait til next year when everything clicks and they start giving him 30 plus minutes. People do not realize the jump Durant made from first to second year. You do not always see everything in just stats but Beastley will make a jump close to what Durant did in points, rebounds, assists, steals. blocks,fg%. It should average 20 pts 8 rbs 4 asts 1 stl 1.5 blks 30+ min. 46% Field goal % 35 % 3pt % 85 % free throw %. Noone in their second year will top that and that is just the beginning. Noone but Rose maybe have the upside of Beastley. He has not been playing much because Miami is about defense and his defense is not that great right now but he is improving.

sheltwon3ParticipantI forgot about Randolph. Actually Randolph if he fills up would be the best player in this draft hands down. I would say he could be a young KG or Chris Bosh type. Dude is something serious and he is just too small right but hey if learn from KG, Bosh, and Durant about adding muscle and strength to his frame look out.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 04/14/2009 - 1:55pm #145778
sheltwon3ParticipantI do believe a healthy Galinari might show signs of having a Bargina type game in the name few years. If that happens then he draft position does not seem as bad. You have to give a rookie 2 years at least before you can call them bust and in some situation like when you aren’t getting minutes a little longer. this past draft was actually stocked with talented players and better than the one before it. You have 5 star point guards, a whole bunch of solid swingman , a bunch of skilled bigman too short to be centers.
There may be at least 10 Allstars from this draft. I could see Rose, Beastley, Lopez, Westbrook, Randolph, Gordon, Mayo,Top be continue

DY_nastyParticipantI only rag on Beasley because after seeing him play against the Bobcats in person, he looks downright awful at times. If Diaw scores on you okay thats understandable. If Okafor scores on you, hey it happens. But if Diop of all people starts lighting you up then you’re not just a defensive liability, you’re a defensive cancer.
His offense is decent though, he needs to learn how to bang down low a little better but that’ll come. I just think that if the Head had to do it over, they’d take Mayo 9 times out of 10.

Stanford hoopsParticipantits very typical for a rookies defense to be lacking when they first get to the leauge esspecially when youre a 19 year old rookie…and thats one game ..so because of that one game he is a defense of cancer?…i admit his defense leaves alot to be desired but thats pretty standard as a rookie..i went to a chi game where rose got punished by andre miller then lou williams most of the plays he didnt try but hes a rookie so i give him the benifit of being young..now if this happens continuiously when they are 3rd year players then you worry

michaelds911ParticipantYou do have to remember Diop is 7’0-7’1 and has a good 50-60 pounds on Beasley, plus Beasley is 6’7-6’8, so if he hit a couple of baby hooks in the post I still wouldn’t be upset.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 04/18/2009 - 10:58am #146427
DY_nastyParticipantHe gets abused by everyone. Not just the all-stars and the scorers. You guys are saying Diop is a threat now? ….okay, I give up.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 04/18/2009 - 7:21pm #146495
michaelds911ParticipantYou just hate Beasley lol. He is a rookie, give him a break. You never seen people bashing Nash or other players that can’t play d at all.
