We each have different ideas about what a good team is made up of, for me I am going to put a team together that is made up of what I want out of a position rather than just players names, although will be used as an example.

Attempt is something realistic as no team has super stars at every position, something that is attainable for a franchise both financially and solid.

C – For me this is a guy who is athletic and willing to do the dirty work. A guy that’ll protect the rim and rebound with a nice ability to run the floor. A couple of guys who fit this mold to me are Tyson Chandler, DeAndre Jordan and Robin Lopez.

PF – I like this guy to be able to score in a variety of ways and maybe not have that 3-point range, but an mid-range game that is consistent. Rebounding is also a bonus here and in terms of talent level a fringe All-Star. A guy who fits the mold for me is Paul Millsap and David West.

SF – I would love my team to have star wing player and for me that’d be at SF as it is my fave spot. I like the all-around guy, someone who can score 20, pull in 7-8 boards and dish out 4-5 assists a game. Defensively I would want them to be a hard worker and have the ability to change the game and elevate to another level if needed. For me it is guys like James, Durant and George. Hopefully Wiggins Leonard get to at least the level PG is now.

SG – 3 & D. I like my SGs to be able to play defence and hit the long ball. I prefer them to be 6’6/7 in order to be able to mark both SG and SF’s if need be. Guy’s Shane Battier, Wesley Matthews and Danny Green.

PG – A true PG for me is the ultimate and if I were to have a second star it would be at this position. A guy that can create for his team mates and make them better. Guy’s like Rondo, Kidd and Nash. Again hopefully Rubio can make it to a respectable level as a true PG.

Bench – Combo Guard who can score off the bench and play both PG and SG. Jason Terry would be the upper scale for this, however a guy like Lou Williams or Ramon Sessions.

Energy big guy – Self explanatory, JJ Hickson or Nick Collison type.

Solid wing player – A guy that may not give you much but is solid and doesnt make mistakes i.e Demarre Carroll or Corey Brewer.

Have to do my realistic ideal team. (Two Stars, a very good role player and two consistent effort givers to round out the strating line up. With a reasonable scorer off bench, C/PF combo guy and solid wing player)
    C. Robin Lopez
    PF. Paul Millsap
    SF. Paul George
    SG. Danny Green
    PG. Rajon Rondo

    Bench: Alec Burke SG/PG
    Ed Davis PF/C
    Demarre Carroll SF/SG

Great post but the team you mention would not even be top 3 in the east. NO iso scorers, or closers on your team

For my superstar, I’ll go with Steph Curry. He can score from anywhere on the floor, he can distribute the ball, he’s a threat to go off on any given night, he fills up the stat sheet, his IQ is off the charts, and I could go on.

At the two, I value efficiency and oppose high-volume shot scorers. I like a two who doesn’t need a lot of shots to score and consistently gets to the rim, gets to the FT line, doesn’t dribble too much, and knows how to move without the ball. With Curry spreading the floor, my two doesn’t necessarily need to be the greatest perimeter shooter. A guy who is undervalued right now due to injuries is Eric Gordon. He’s only 25 and has been really good when healthy.

At the three, to keep things realistic, I’ll take a rook. I’ve been extremely high on Doug McDermott since his early days at Creighton and I think he’s going to be a phenomenal pro. Ultimately, he’s got a Dirk type of game but in a Wally World type of body, but he thinks like a coach. McDermott is a lights-out shooter, not limited to just shooting off the catch, he has a sneaky/clever mid-range game, and a ton of intangibles.

At the four, call me trendy but I like the way the league is going with the stretch four. There are two guys that I think rebound really well and are exceptional shooters and can score in bunches, neither of whom are currently starters. They are Ersan Ilyasova and Ryan Anderson. Both have produced when healthy and given minutes. Neither are great defenders, but both present a lot of match-up problems with opponents.

At the five, I love shear explosive athleticism. I like put-back dunk guy, runs the floor guy, blocks shots, excites the crowd, finishes lobs, etc. Give me Andre Drummond. Sure, he struggles at the FT line, but with shooters like Steph, McDermott, and Ersan spreading the floor for him, he’d have plenty of room to operate in his office. In his two-year career, he averages 11 points and 11 boards, shoots 61 percent from the field, and blocks 1.6 shots.

    PG: Steph Curry
    SG: Eric Gordon
    SF: Doug McDermott
    PF: Ersan Ilyasova
    C: Andre Drummond

This team’s primary difficulties would be on the defensive end. Gordon’s injuries may somewhat limit him defensively, McDermott isn’t quick enough to cover the game’s elite SFs, and Ilyasova is not exactly Serge Ibaka defensively. But Drummond’s presence should compensate at least a little, and this team would score like crazy.

Oh, and some reserves I’m fond of include Dennis Schroder, Kyle Singler, Mike Scott, and Kelly Olynyk.

Point Guard- Fast and Strong with a solid basketball IQ Strong Defender with a great motor..

    Eric Bledsoe

SG- My shooting guard would have to be able to take on some PG duty but yet be able to play away from the ball to keep the defense as spread out as possible.. great shooter but can create for others as well

    Aaron Affalo

SF- Small Foward spot has to be LONG and an Athlete, the type of guy that can help out on any position on the floor and that can get to the rack and get to the foul line as well.

    Andrew Wiggins or Paul George

PF- I would run a lot of Flex if I was a coach in the league.. So it would be important to have a 4 with great size and even better passing..

    Pau Gasol

C- Strong Mobile Big Guy that could clog up space but be able to move baseline to baseline.

    Andre Drummond or DeMarcus Cousins

    so my 5 would be

    1.Eric Bledsoe/Chris Paul

    2. Aaron Affalo

    3. Andrew Wiggins/Paul George

    4. Paul Gasol

    5. Demarcus Cousins

C –Team’s that win rings have all star bigs who rebound and defend, unless you have Jordan on your team:

    C — Joakim Noah

PF — Stretch the floor, clean the glass, toughness

    PF — Jared Sullinger

SF — Athletic wing, compable defender, maybe a fringe all-star

    SF — Andre Iguodala

SG — Reliable shooter first and foremost

    SG — JJ Reddick

PG — comfortable making the right decision, my best leader, in a point guard league must be one of my best 2 players

    PG — Kyle Lowry

Bench: Scorers, Energizers, Capable starter in case of injury

    – Taj Gibson

    – Jeremy Lin

    – Nick Young

My team is nicely balanced with youth and vets, scorers and defenders, and  stars, fringe all stars, role players

PG – I’d go with Bledsoe. He doesn’t need the ball to be effective, he’s a bulldog on defense and is a great rebounder and improving passer and shooter. There are so many points out there but I want to have a player that can lock another one down while being able to slam it down at the end of a fastbreak.

SG – I really value player that can make their own shots, and there aren’t many 2 guards in the league that can do that and play defense. I’d take Beal, because he is a great 3 point shooter and is the closest player I’ve seen to Ray Allen. He doesn’t have great athleticism, but he is far from a bad athlete and he can play for a long time.

SF – Kawhi. He’s a great rebounder, defender, and shooter. He does everything I’d want in a SF and I think he’s got a great career ahead of him. He also is a high-character guy and I would want him on my team.

PF – A guy that can bang down low but also shoot from outside… Not exactly 3 point range, but like mid-range. I don’t have a star yet (even though my 1-3 has All-Star and star potential) so I’ll go with Aldridge. He’s my favorite Power Forward.

C- An anchor. A bruiser. An intimidator. A tough s**t competitor that will block your shot and dunk on you afterwards. Either Noah or Adams. I like those two. They’re also pretty good passers, and aren’t bad from the FT line.

I want an instant-offense guy like Swaggy P or Jordan Crawford, as a sixth man, a defensive big (Dalembert) and a good point like Mills or Heinrich, shooters and defenders. Also, I’d like a rookie on my bench, for 2K reasons. Randle.

I probably wouldn’t go with the star PG, I would prefer a second elite scorer at SG.

In saying that to go with guys like Waiter or Derozan at SG and a solid PG like Darren Collison or Patty Mills.

    C. Lopez
    PF. Millsap
    SF. George
    SG. Derozan
    PG. Collison

    Bench:
    LaVine
    Ed Davis
    Demarre Carroll or Solomon Hill

PG- I want my 1 to have elite quickness and defense. To be able to stop the other offense at the point of attack is hugely underrated, IMO. The role of the point guard is to set up the offense, and create for his teammates. If he can grab some boards it is a plus. Doesn’t need to be an elite scorer, but should shoot a high %.

    (healthy) Rajon Rondo

SG- For my squad the 2 guard needs to be able to be deadly from 3 point range. Especially when there isn’t a scorer at point.

    Bradley Beal.

SF- In today’s NBA, you need at least one elite player on the wing if you want to contend for a championship. Not every team can have a Lebron or KD though. I’m going to take a 2nd tier star at this position and go with Leonard.

PF- Needs to be able to defend the league’s stretch 4’s, and traditional 4’s. I have Rondo at the point so I need to surround him with shooters to be successful, I’m going to start Ryan Anderson at the 4.

C- LARRY SANDERS! Assuming he can stay off the pipe and out of nightclub fights, I think he would bring a level of defensive toughness and shotblocking that would mesh well with Rondo and Leonard on D.

    Rondo
    Beal
    Leonard
    Anderson
    Sanders

    Bench- McDermott
    – Boozer
    – Robin Lopez

PG – Steph Curry. Great shooter, and closer

SG – Avery Bradley. I want my SG to play defense and score if needed. Bradley can also guard the PG since curry isnt a great defender.

SF – Paul George. Can’t go wrong with this pick, great defender decent shooter and just an overall great player.

PF – Need some to spread the floor, I like the 4 out 1 in offensive game, i want a big that can shoot the 3 and create his own shot if needed. Dirk would be my guy.

C – Since I dont have a strong rebounder yet or a paint protector, I’m going with Marc Gasol. Great rebounder and defensive player. Won DPOY.
