I have seen many comparison of Favors to Dwight Howard, I guess it’s due to their similar age, build and height when they both enter the NBA.

Just as a comparison.. Left is Dwight Howard at the combine, and the right is Derrick Favors

    Height WO Shoes – 6’9" — 6′ 8.75"

    Height W Shoes – 6′ 10.25" — 6′ 10.25"

    Weight – 240 lbs — 245 lbs

    Wingspan – 7′ 4.5" — 7′ 4"

    Standing Reach – 9′ 3.5" — 9′ 2"

    No Step Vertical – 30.5" — 31.5"

    No Step Vertical reach – 11′ 10" — 11′ 9.5"

    Max Veritcal – 35.5" — 35.5"

    Max Vertical Reach – 12′ 3" — 12′ 1.5"

    Bench – 7 — 14

    Agility – 11.21 — 11.74

My question is, what can be expected from Favors moving forward, say in 2-3 years from now?

Dwight Howard’s rookie year he averaged 12PPG and 10RPG, Howard was way more advance offensively, and physically and that’s coming straight from high school. Physically they have some similarities, but the two are very different, one is a CENTER and the other is mainly a PF.

I don’t see Favors ever developing into an all-star level PF, he’s just so raw offensivly that he would make dramatic improvements.  I see him being similar to Sergei Ibaka, both will probably never be an all-star but brings value as a defensive player, rebounder and athletecism.

His ceiling is as follows.  Not that good, can’t not not throw freethrows towards net.  Not no better at bounding the rebound.  no good at not throwing the ball to the mess dealie with string.

I don’t think he will be dwight howard, but he will be pretty good, maybe make an allstar or two if he develops the right way.

His main problem last season, was that he was constantly in the melo trade fiasco, which you can tell took a toll on him, he didn’t look comfortable, or confident. Once he got to Utah he finally relaxed and started playing well. He still needs to improve his offensive game though as all he really does is dunk the ball, and time to time make a post move.

I think Favors’ ceiling is like 18 ppg and 10 rpg I think. He could be a very good PF, but I’d like to see him get more aggressive on both ends before I’m really sold on Favors being an All-Star level frontline player. He has the athletic and physical tools to be a great PF, but not quite the demeanor. Who knows if it ever comes, even though there is hope due to guys like Rudy Gay and Lamarcus Aldridge becoming more assertive after being considered guys who lacked aggression earlier in their careers.

I think he can be a pretty good player. Maybe not a All star.

What makes you think Dwight Howard has grown 2 inch’s?  He hasn’t been measured since the Pre Draft if I’m not mistaken so any other height after that is a guess and we know how announcers like Reggie Miller like to make a guy taller than he actually is.

Howard grew about an inch I think, he stands eye to eye with Bosh who is an uncontested 6’11". Favors probably won’t grow much more so will be a little underized at center, but from what I saw last year its his natural position. A poor man’s Dwight Howard is still a top 20 player in the NBA.

Dwight was young enough when drafted to still be growing when he got the NBA. He certainly seems taller than being 6′ 9".

But when comparing their physical stats, note that Dwight has an inch and half more of standing reach. That is really more important than heigh when comparing them. And those agility scores are pretty different as well.
