HueBoND 2001ParticipantI dont see how this guy is overlooked 6’8 and he has more hops than derozan and more explosive to the rim.. He needs a summer with Lebron James I hate to see him go to waste this is his last year before he becomes Ronald Dupree…who is actually livin up to his hype

JNixonParticipantHe does alot of things better than Derozen, even as a high schooler. He shoots, handles, and is a better athlete than Derozan is. Alot smoother out there on the floor. They both dont defend that good, but Derozan is better than Green in that area. But I thought Gerald Green would be an all-star by now. I do think Derozan will be a bust

Wizards034ParticipantHe was better than Gerald Green in high school and right now I mean they both have great hops Green a better 3 point shooter Derozan a better mid range shooter both guys ball handling and defense is suspect so skills they both are similiar type players but Derozan had much more upside coming out high school and better basketball IQ.

Dr.RedParticipantGreen looks completely lost on the court most of the time… his basketball IQ is near that of a door mat. he has all the skills to be great…but he doesn’t know how to play with a team… 1-on-1 is were he shines, but you don’t win basketball games that way. I haven’t got to watch DeRozan play much, but from what I’ve seen he is much better at playing team basketball than Green and appears to have a much higher basketball IQ… too much emphasis is placed on athletic ability in judging talent… if you possess all that skill but can’t understand an offensive or defensive scheme, you probably ain’t gonna last too long in the league.

auberParticipantGreen, It’s not even close. Gerald Green was one of the next Basketball prodigy in term of athleticism and potential. If this guy had an ounce of fundamental in him he would be a star.

JNixonParticipantThe question was about potential, and Gerald Green had more potential than Derozan did at the same stage. Green isnt a good nba player now but he had (and still has) more potential than Derozan

Knicksboy34ParticipantGerald Green was being called Tracy McGrady and he had more hype then most people I heard of. Green had a posse and everything man.
DeRozan was hyped recently like a couple years ago but wasn’t as hyped as Green.

knicksfreakParticipantGreen hands down. Especially after being the MVP of the McDonalds game. He didnt appear to have any weaknesses. He is my genius plan for the Knicks this season.

HaleParticipantI am a huge Derozan fan but I definitely think green. I thought he was going to dominate the NBA when he was coming out. Derozan is more of a project to me.

maravich44ParticipantThese comparisons are scary. Remember Harold Miner was called “Baby Jordan” and there was the “Next Mailman” in Randy White (think that was his name) If he was any good I’d remember. When a player possesses some similar skills to someone from the past, there seems to be an automatic comparison. In most cases only a few skills are similar like jumping ability, or shooting or whatever said skill, and the rest of their games are completely different. It’s often unfair because the assumption is that player B will follow the path of player A. This usually isn’t the case.

maravich44ParticipantSorry. Got off on a tangent. I think Green had more potential. Remember, that was the origanal question. I guess the other question is who will ultimately be the better player, and I would definitely say Derozan.

mb6297Green had more hype…
Derozen played against better competition just by being in college and playing at USC. His stock rose when he played well in the NCAA tournament.
Both have/had great potential.

Stanford hoopsParticipantwell its easy to say derozen has more potential now because he hasnt played a game in the nba where as green as played a couple of seasons and hasnt done too much…as far as high it was green hands down..and comparision wise they are kinda compareable as far as height athletic ability and game so umm yeah that makes them comparable..doesnt mean there the same but compareable..where they differ is that derozen seems to be a more team guy..when watching him he seems to like to let the game come to him instead of forceing it..as a matter of fact tim floyd wanted hm to force the issue a lil more earlier in the season but he wouldnt at first..green has more range but not as good midrange it seems.. but green still has the potenial to get alot better …its up to him if he wants to because i truley believe if he works harder he could easily do what jr smith is doing
