GrandmamaParticipantI know you’ve received plenty of criticism over the last few years for having Whiteside slotted as the #1 pick for a period of time. Let this be the thread where all users can apologize for giving you sh*t throughout the years for Whiteside. His skills are finally catching up with his size, and you were clearly right about slotting Whiteside as the #1 pick. Dude is a beast, and looks like a bonafide stud at center.

RUDEBOY_Participanti looked thru the archives and saw a thread from 2010 when i said draft him in the top 10 now and within 5 yrs he’ll be 1 of the best centers in the league…lol…
i think taylor condrin was also high on him….
there were alot of people that loved his upside..but felt he wasnt nba ready and as it turned out, they were right…

gopack10ParticipantI still remember all of the hate from the user base when Aran had him so high on his Big Board. This is exactly why rating prospects is so hard. Potential is the name of the game. When these guys fulfill that potential then it makes you look good but when they don’t it makes you look bad. Thus why the GM position in sports is an ever revolving door. There really isn’t a science to it. No matter how you scout, rate and rank players, you’ll be right almost as much as you are wrong when not talking about the LeBron James’ of the world.
I’m just glad to finally see him getting some PT and being able to develop at this level. Last night’s game was just unreal. The Heat might have finally found their young player of the future. I bet LeBron wishes he had this guy playing at this level last season. Might have been a much different outcome against the Spurs.

IndianaBasketballParticipantUm what Whiteside is doing is impressive, but he’s played great for what? A month or so?
Up until this point of his NBA career, he’s literally been irrelevant.
I love what he’s doing and am hoping he keeps this up, but this post is pre-mature. I need to see more. Way more.

Aran SmithKeymasterThanks for the recognition and praise. This just goes to show that we are NEVER wrong. Even when we appear to be wrong, we are still right 😉 … Only kidding.
So yeah we obviously caught a boat load of crap over having Whiteside so high, since 2010. He was placed at #1 in the following year’s mock, and as high as #2 on the big board after John Wall. He was never put number one in the year he was drafted. Let’s just clear that up.
Anyway it is great to see him doing so well. He really did have the second most upside of any player in that year. It was just a matter of learning discipline and developing a work ethic, which was a great uncertainty. It took him til 25 years old to get there, and it seems he still has a lot of upside to tap into. Fun story.
Thanks again for the post.
