I think Lillard should have made the USA FIBA team over Derreick Rose. Lillard was/is playing at a higher level at this moment compared to Rose.I think Rose got the nod becuaseThibs being an assitant coach on the USA Team. Kyrie Irving I have no argument with him making the team, but there is odviously the Coach K connection.

I expect him to play with a chip on his shoulders this year and take his game to another level.  Is it right that politcs played a role in him getting cut? You shouldnt Coach the National team in any capicity if you have a dogg in the fight. its not fair to the other players that sacraficed their time to try out.

If I’m Thibs I want Lillard over Rose due to the risk/reward situation from his stance.  I’m bitting my finger nails everytime Rose was on the floor and I’m not even a Bulls fan.

I think the reason he got cut was because he brought to the table a very similiar skill set to the two top points they already had in Kyrie and Steph. All really good shooters, who can take it to the hoop some. I think Derrick got the nod, a little bit because of politics, but also it have them a different look to throw at teams, an elite slasher. Sure Derick didn’t end up playing very well, but Damian would’ve barely seen the floor anyways because most of the point minutes got ate up by Steph and Kyrie. I think the biggest factor in Lillard getting cut was his skill set being so similiar to the already established lead guards of the team.

all the word in early team usa training camp was how surprisingly well derrick was playing and how he was setting the tone for team usa defensively. people forget that derrick was actually in the lead for the starting spot after the first round of cuts and even started exhibitions before kyrie overtook him.

lillard was also pretty nondescript in the exhibitions that he played as well, showing poor defense and not meshing offensively.

rose beat him out to make the team. end of story. how derrick played in the tourney had no bearing on how he looked in training camp.
