So USA basketball just announced their cuts for next months FIBA world championships. Tyreke Evans, Javale McGee, OJ Mayo, and Gerald Wallace are out. For those of us that have played team basketball growing up we have to go through cuts. Personally I’ve never been cut from a team but have seen guys cut from my middle school and high school teams. Every guy handles it differently but my question is how do you think these NBA players handled this situation. I mean they’ve never been cut before but imagine what former phenom OJ Mayo is thinking since he got cut. Wonder how Coach K told them the news. If you got any interesting cut stories from the past be sure to share them.

Everyone reacts differently. I think Wallace doesn’t care too much. He’s a vet, he understands the youth movement. I think Javale if anything just gets super confidence based on the fact he was invited. Reke knew he was getting cut because he couldn’t play all week. I think Mayo might get mad at this and start the season with a fire.

Mayo is probably gonna average 25 per game next year because of this and try to show up everyone who made it over him

its kind of hard to know what guys that coach these types of teams are looking for or expecting from players..remember hall of famers Barkley,Karl Malone & Stockton were cut during try-outs for the 84 Olympic Team..While guys like Jeff Turner,Leon Wood,Joe Kleine & Koncak made it..

They want the 12 best guys to complete the puzzle, not the 12 best guys period. Mayo is much more of an isolation player than a guy that can run off screens or spot up. Reke’s style of play really isn’t fit for FIBA. McGee was a long-shot at best, and so was Wallace.

I think that guys who get cut from a team should definitely try out again next year, or whenever they’re holding tryouts again. When you get cut from a team, the coach usually tells you what you need to work on. (At least that’s what people who were cut from teams at my high school told me.) Why not take the advice, work hard, and come back next year? If you made final cuts, then you could definitely make the team next year with the proper training.

I don’t think OJ will take it to badly unlike most guys with major hype in high school he seems very well adjusted. I think McGee will take it the hardest

I think going in USA Training Camp, it is already an honor for them to be invited in… It shouldn’t be much of a deal in terms of frustration but players will definitely get extra motivated by this and will go in the season proving what they are capable of… I like Tyreke’s approach… He knew that he was gonna get cut because of his injury and he shrugged it off thinking that there should be next time…

Lolz, they know they got cut because they’re garbage. But there’s always an NBA all-star game that they can make. Furthermore, this is embarrassing if you are in the NBA don’t go to summer teams where your gonna get cut. Find out from your agent if you’re a guaranteed lock. If not go enjoy your summer. Lolz, Coach K is trying to humble these millionaires.

i remember how mad Gilbert arenas was when he got cut from the team in 06. Jerry Colangelo said it was because he had been injured, but arenas swore they had the team picked before tryouts.

H said he would drop 50 each on the assistant coaches team, the suns(D’antoni) and the blazers(McMillan) and i swear i read somewhere that he said he would sit out a whole NBA season if it gave him the chance to go back to Arizona and drop 100(i think?) on Duke.

I remember watching the Wizards – Suns game with my friends and when he dropped 54 like he promised and saying “this season just might be like Kill Bill for him”…but then against the blazers he only had 8 or 9…and then later that season he tore his acl

lol.. Yeah Agent Zero was really Madd..good thing he didnt have his heaters in the lockerroom back then…

Dude said he would drop 80 on Coach K…..If he played against Duke..

but he might have a point..about coaches knowing who will be on the team before the tryouts…some guys werent invited becuz of their questionable attitudes and poor work habits
