There has been a lot of talk about people hating offtopic threads, so heres a on topic on that will get you to think. Anyone that wishes to participate is more then welcome and if enough do we will vote on who has the best team heres the rules To creating your own franchise game.

    1. Pick a city and pick a name. explain why you picked and how it would attract fans and nba players to your team.

2A. Expansion draft– teams are allowed to protect 8 players on their roster, for this games sake we will not include the restrictated/unrestrictated rule. use your "nba knowledge" to determine which ones are available to you and if you pick a controversial player say why he would not be protected. Pick up to 13 players for this stage.

2B. NBA Draft–  you have the 4th pick in the draft. Be fair and pick someone who will be available again explaining if you pick someone who might not. You can use the sites mock draft as a guide for the teams as nothing is for certain.

    3. Pick your head coach– has to be a coach who is not currently employed as a head coach in the nba and is not retired(so no phil jackson and jerry sloan).

    4. Your starting line up.

I will post mine later on… good luck and lets see who can come up with the best team.

     Cherry Hill Cherry Poppers!

    Just kidding about that

Team name: Louisiville Lions (cheesey, yes.. but Lousiville is a small market but has great college fans. Just named  a city that I thought could use a nice little bball team)

Coached by: Larry Brown (he likes challenges and will have a huge challenge with this team. However, I want my players to play tough defense and learn to play the game the right way)

Roster with expansion draft and draft pick at 4th:

    PGs

    • Johnny Flynn (buried in the bench at Houston and still looking for a team to take a chance on him. Why not right?)
    • Beno Udrih (solid pick up and will challenge Flynn for minutes)

    SGs

    • Dominique Jones ( a scorer who has never had a chance to shine. He’s streaky,
    • Quentin Richardson  (not sure if he’d count but if they can get him, I’d take him for veteran support and 3-point shooting)
    • James Anderson (also not sure if he’d be expansion’d but he can be serviacable)

    SFs

    • Terrence Williams (young guy who needs time and can provide good defense if his head is on straight)
    • Josh Childress (veteran leadership and is their 6th man who can play the 2,3,or 4)

    PFs

    • Jared Sullinger (my draft pick. Build around him and let him do what he does best. Should be good for double doubles
    • Luis Amundosn (hustle guy with high energy)

    C

    • Cole Aldrich (not much time or faith in OKC so why not see what he can do)
    • Ryan Hollins (athletic)

The rest are just going to be D-League fillers and will be just bench warmers.

This team will STRUGGLE mightly to scorer points. BUT they will be exciting, well coached, and have some solid young pieces to build around. The leading scorer will probably be Flynn and will be asked to controll this team. This was pretty tough Scott but hey, at least I tried lol

I am gonna go with Seattle Torpedo as my teams name.

4th pick of the draft: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist

    FA signings:

    PG: Ray Felton, Goran Dragic

    SG: Jason Terry, Mickael Pietrus

    SF: CJ Miles, Carlos Delfino

PF: Antawn Jamison, Ronny Turiaf, Boris Diaw

    C: Chris Kaman, Marcus Camby

Coach: Paul Westphal (tried to go realistic because you would never get Coach K or someone for the job)

Hard task cause there won´t be a lot of young good FA next year so i had to go with a lot of vets….

Let me know what you think….

Well for what city im in I would go with a city that has a pro sport all ready but not NBA team of course so probably San Diego,St.Louis,Baltimore, or even possibly Seattle and Buffalo.

Lets say I choose San Deigo and pick a badass animal for a logo like a Cobra (lol i was thinking about Jelly Fish because they would make a sweet logo but sounds to weird for a team name)I would have the logo being a Cobra and the colors would probably be Black, and Green or Black and Yellow

As for roster I dont know how to do the free agency stuff….

As for my draft I would think I would get the first pick but I guess if its the 4th pick hopefully Jeremy Lamb is there because he would be the perfect guy to start a franchise with but he is projected higher then that so if not available I would take Sullinger and trade for another late lottery pick say 10-14 and draft Austin Rivers or Kendall Marshall.

The reason why I would pick Sullinger is because this guy is a leader and someone who can get the rebounds and be a post up option and get the other teams bigs into foul trouble.

With my late lottery pick I’d take Rivers because he can score and will be IM a elite scorer in the NBA and he brings show time to the team which I think will be important to be one of those teams to watch so your team can make money.Marshall is my other option because he can run a team and maybe he can have a Rubio impact(of course not as big of an impact

I may be biased, but I feel these players actually wouldn’t be bad picks because I think they all have potential and are probably not top 8 on peoples team.

With the 4th pick…… The Kansas City Jayhawks select……..Thomas Robinson out of the University of Kansas

    PG- Josh Selby-potential potential potential

SG- Xavier Henry/Brandon Rush- I dont even think he’s 21 yet, although hes been dissappointing so far, I still see him developing into a solid player. Brandon Rush 3 point specialist who isnt a poor defender, leading the league in 3 point percentage this year

SF- Marcus Morris- Readily available from the D-league, will struggle guarding the SF position but in a team tthat will lack offense he has the ability to fill it up.

PF- Thomas Robinson/Markieff Morris/Scalibrine I think Robinson may end up being the only core building block, but when picking teams worst players dont expect many of the potential players to become studs. Robinson and Markieff are good compliments to each other and will be the PF spot will be solid going forward. Scalibrine for Jersey Sales

C- Cole Aldrich- I have liked what I have seen in the time he gets limited minutes. I think he will be a solid shot blocker and servicable post player.

Really wish I could get Darrell Aurther or Mario Chalmers but they are both borderline 8th men.

Would choose Larry Brown as my coach but then he would just trade all the potential for old vets just to be a .500 team. So my coach of choice would be….. when retired Jason Kidd, with Derrick Fisher as his assistant.

Ryan Hollins is the most unathletic-athletic player I have ever seen. What I mean by this:

He nowhere near uses his athleticism to maximize his game, his basketball IQ is terrible, he has average hands, and for a former high jumper he rarely blocks shots. If you just want someone to take up space, get the occasional dunk, play poor defense and chew up fouls, he is your guy.

My team would be play in Austin because I live there and would have a name like the Showstoppers because I’m a HUGE Shawn Michaels fan. Texas Wrestling baby!

I don’t want to look up a bunch of players so I’ll just pick from the ones used above and a few others I would know.

    PG Goran Dragic Anthony Carter

SG Xavier Henry Josh Selby James Anderson

    SF Terrence Williams James Jones

PF Lou Amundson Chris Wilcox Jon Leuer

    C Anthony Davis Erik Dampier

Head Coach: Coach K my coaching idol!

I think this wouldn’t be as awful of a lineup as it looks. My starters are pretty athletic and can all run the floor well and get out in transition. I think running a fast offense could be cool with this team. I’ve got a couple shooters with Henry, Anderson, Jones and Leuer. Slashers in T-Will, Dragic and Selby. My bigs don’t have much post game but they’re active and will fight for offensive boards.

My starting bigs are good and active defenders who grab lots of rebounds. I can bring in Leuer to stretch the floor and Dampier is there to spell one of my guys for more D and rebounding. Williams is a great defender who can be my lockdown guy. Carter will be a veteran defender and the young athletic guys should be able to defense well enough to be capable.

I think this team could win maybe 15-20 games and with a #1 scorer they could be a contending for a playoff spot. This was a lot of fun to do!

Edit: Just read I have the 4th pick and not the 1st. Dang it! My bad guys.

     1. Pick a city and pick a name. Grand Rapids Gladiators. Im from michigan so i picked it because it was near to me.

    2A. Expansion draft–
    Denver: Kenneth Faried PF/C
    Houston:Marcus Morris PF
    Spurs:Daniel Green SF
    Houston:Jonny Flynn:PG
    76ers:Nikola Vucevic:C
    Heat:Mike Miller:SG/SF
    Twolves:Anthony Randolph:PF
    Chicago:CJ Watson PG
    Utah:Jeremy Evans PF
    Hornets: Xavier Henry, SG
    Charlotte:Reggie Williams:SF
    :
    Houston: Goran Dragic PG
    Dallas: Ian Mahimni,C

Open to corrections from people who know their teams better than i do.

A question: would i be allowed to go after free agents like JR Smith?

2B. NBA Draft– you have the 4th pick in the draft. Be fair and pick someone who will be available again explaining if you pick someone who might not. You can use the sites mock draft as a guide for the teams as nothing is for certain.

4th pick: Jeremy Lamb SG Uconn

    3. Pick your head coach– has to be a coach who is not currently employed as a head coach in the nba and is not retired(so no phil jackson and jerry sloan).

Rick Adelman the guy has been succesful everywhere.

    4. Your starting line up.

C Nikola Vucevic   Ian Mahimni   Kenneth Faried
F Marcus Morris   Anthony Randolph    Jeremy Evans
    F Mike Miller Danny Green
G Jeremy Lamb  Reggie Williams Xavier Henry
G CJ Watson   Goran Dragic    Jonny Flynn

I dont have any really definded starters but this would be it if i was forced to give one. I do like how my bench players and starters contrast in playing style though.

    1)

Honolulu Surfers, it was this or someplace in Alaska so i found out i wanted to make a Hawaian team, fans would be a problem, but just dont have a huge arena but a small one max 10k close and then it will be loud. For players who dosent want to live in Hawaii at least its warm and u could go surfing (if NBA players had been allowed to do that).

2A) Around 58.044 million salary cap prorated for the shortened season. Wont go to much into number but i will asemble a team which wont go under the 85% spending lvl or to much over the cap (the number wont be perfect but will match approximatly)

    PG

Devin Harris (Not sure if Utah would protect him so i nag him of the board cause and say they wont) 9.3m

CJ Watson (Team option next year could get rid of some salary) 3.4m

    SG

Jordan Crawford (I need my designated gunner, even tho he takes the worst shots and have never seen a shot he dont like i need someone to score once in a while so i need him to shot like a maniac for 20 min a game) 1.1m

Stephen Jackson (Since he is in Skiles doghouse i nag him of the board before they can think twice about it veteran player who still can ball.) 9.2m

    SF

James Jones (My three point sniper, wont play to much but he might help my draft pick become a three point shooter, (Heat might protect him but then its Mike Miller or Shane Battier for me) 1.5m

Chase Budinger (He can play some beach volleyball at Honolulu great interaction with the fans.) 884k.

    PF

Brand (76ers got 8 players they might protect before him so i say its not likely but plausible he wont be protected even thought he isent the same albatros he was when injured, and since I would need to fill the NBA salary cap minimum, i need some highly paid players) 17 m

Anthony Randolph (I sure hope I hire a good trainer to put bulk him up a bit) 2.9m

Brian Scalabrine (He is going to teach me a couple of Tibs defensive schemes 😉 and he is also going to get some sunburns) 1.3m

    C

Brandan Wright & Ian Mahinmi  (I like both, Dallas would likely protect one of them but then i take the other one, we need some youth and even though none of them have lived up to their potential in Honolulu they will) 915k or 884k

Semih Erden (I like young bigs not afraid of getting posterized) 788k

Kosta Koufos (I want bigs, cause opposing teams are going to beat me from the stripe or the perimiter) 2.2m

Ben Wallace (Not sure he would not be protected, but he is going to learn my young bigs a thing or two about defence) 2.2m

2B) I pick Michael Kidd-Gilchrist cause i like his intensity work ethic and that he is a solid defender, even tho he might not be a star he has the ability and desire to become great and therefor i see his worst scenario to become a great defensive player, but limited offensively. (A tad under 4m)

Salary around 57m more or less, ofcourse a bit less since it would be prorated. I think this team should be able to compete at least defensivly and with some luck i would give em a 32-50 record give or take and then be stuck with a couple expiring contracts in Brand, Harris and Jackson the second year, but then I got another top 10 pick to add to the team + alot of capspace and who dosent wanna play in Honolulu. =)=)

    3) Coach I take John Kuester even tho he dident do great things in detroit i blame that on Dumars he comes from the Larry Brown coaching three so i give him a go with my defensive minded team. I give him some burn before I lure Phil Jackson out of retirement with a only homegame clause =)

    4)

    I would start

    PG Devin Harris

    SG Stephen Jackson

    SF Michael Kidd-Gilchrist

    PF Elton Brand

C Koufos, (I got 6 fouls in and 18 more waiting for ya at the bench)

EDIT: You guys certainly have a different idea of who would be protected than I do.

Tough game, but I like it. Here goes:

1.) I wanted to give it to a state that doesn’t have an NBA, but I decided to go for something more likely. Therefore, let’s call my team the San Diego Spiders. It’s in California. That’s…basically my reason.

2A.) Good lord. On most rosters, you’re beating your head against the wall after six players, let alone eight. But I’m going to give it a go, anyway.

    Dahntay Jones – SG/SF – Indiana

    Nick Collison – PF/C – Oklahoma City

Josh Howard – SF – Utah

Greg Oden – C – Portland – I’m basically banking on a miraculous healing of his knees and the fact that Portland would be crazy to protect him after all this time.

Earl Watson – PG – Utah – I don’t think I really need to justify this. Utah has a lot of young talent that they need to keep, although Watson gives them the veteran presense and toughness that they sometimes need.

    JaJuan Johnson – PF/SF – Boston

Mario Chalmers – PG – Miami – They keep LeBron, Wade, Chris Bosh, Shane Battier, Udonis Haslem, Norris Cole, Mike Miller, and as sad as it is that they can’t afford to lose him, Joel Anthony.

Chandler Parsons – SF – Houston

    Robin Lopez – C – Phoenix

Jodie Meeks – SG – Philly

    Lou Amundson – PF/C – Indiana

Travis Leslie – SG – LA Clippers

Isaiah Thomas – PG – Sacramento

    Players taken: 13

2B.) Yeah. We’re going to definitely need some young talent for this roster. I’m also going to assume that the first three picks go as the site’s mock has them.

1st Round: Brad Beal – SG – It was between him and Meyers Leonard, to be honest. Robin Lopez and the ghost of Greg Oden is a horrible rotation for center, but the frontcourt rotation overall isn’t TOO bad. The hope is that the NBA comparison listed on this site (Ray Allen) is apt, or at the very least, he’s a shot of offense on a team that doesn’t really have a lot of options.

2nd Round: Augusto Lima – PF – This is typically a throw-away pick, so I’m hoping to catch lightning in a bottle from a European player, either now or down the line. You never know with European players.

3.) Brian Shaw as head coach. He’s been well-received in Indy, but I think he should have gotten a shot elsewhere.

    4.) Starting Lineup:

    PG: Mario Chalmers

    SG: Brad Beal

    SF: Dahntay Jones

    PF: Nick Collison

C: Robin Lopez (Greg Oden if he’s healthy)

Bench: Chandler Parsons, Earl Watson, Greg Oden (Robin Lopez if Oden is healthy), Lou Amundson, Jodie Meeks, Josh Howard, JaJuan Johnson

Analysis: The first people I looked at were capable defenders, but I realized that I was lacking in the offense department, so I made the decision to draft Beal, one of the better scorers in the draft. I wish I could have squeezed out some better shot blocking, but there’s decent enough defense in the frontcourt to pressure the offense into tough looks. I tried looking at some under-the-radar, young talent that maybe could surprise people, hence Isaiah Thomas and Travis Leslie. I couldn’t really pass up Greg Oden, though he likely will never play again. Overall, it’s not a good team, but neither was Charlotte in ’04. It has decent pieces and would probably be better the year after the expansion, though far from the playoffs unless Beal is suddenly a Kobe-type player, which is about as ridiculous as it sounds.

Overall grade: D+ if Oden can’t be salvaged. C- if he can.

Ryan Hollins was just a throw in. I was going to say Nazi Mohammed at first but I said maybe Ryan Hollins has length to get some blocked shots. He wouldn’t be playing ample time though.

Alright some pretty good teams made, some didnt exactly follow the rules exactly but either way impressive

    heres mine

Name- Jersey City RimRockers– corny but nj are about to lose a nba franchise so they would be excited to have a new one and could cause a new rivilery with the brooklyn nets

Head Coach- Ettorre Messina– An italian coach who is now a coaching consultant to mike brown in la. He plays a slow half court style, specilizes in post players, and if you dont play defense your not playing. Perfect example for a new franchise as well as he can teach new players basic fundamentals as well. He also is not a fan of showing off and he will bench you for that(ask bargs he tells you about in an article)

Draft Pick- Since Messina specializes in post player with the 4th pick we would use it on Jared Sullinger.. With messina as a coach he would make sure he plays defense, as well as develop his post game and blossom him into the star of the team

    Expansion draft

Pg Johnny Flynn- Probably the most talented pg available pg in the expansion draft, and he gets a fresh start to perhaps revive his career

pg- Aj Price- another good piece to run the offense and a decent backup pg for flynn

Sg- Marco Belinelli- since the hornets got xavier henry they will probably let him go so I would pick him up and use his streaky shooting to get some offense going, as well as the coach is italian and demands defense he may transform him somewhat as a player. probably be our sixth man

SG Thabo Sefelosha- A defensive minded guard will fit in perfectly in Messina’s defensive approach and will probably get the start over marco because of it

Sf Jonas Jaberko- A nice hustle defensive foward who like thabo will thrive in this defensive system and give us some easy points for a team that will need all they can get.

SF- Reggie Williams- sort of like marco we can use his scoring, and maybe improve his defense i will be a nice offense defensive sg/sf combo

Sf- Josh Childress- most likely the starter or can be used as a veteran presence

Pf Jared Sullinger- our franchise player as this point, under messina should flourish since post players are his speciality and he demands defense

PF Anthony Randolph/Jason thompson- two players we can use and see what we can get out of them. maybe furfill some of that potential they once had. I actually like thompson though and he would be happy to back home in NJ.

C Greg Oden- if hes ever healthy that would be a awesome pick up and nice duo sullinger/oden. Big IF though

C Hasheem Thabeet- Messina can work with him on his offensive game and bring out his defense. All i know is that hasheem will either break out or sit his a$$ on the bench..sort of like hes done his whole career

C Sean Williams athletic freak, i loved this dude when he was on the nets, make nice dunks and blocks, only problem was that he was a headcase. So far he hasnt gotten into any trouble in dallas so maybe hes finally matured if not he will learn real quick as he will be glued right to the bench next to hasheem or the waivers.

    Starting lineup

    Johnny Fylnn/thabo/Childress/Sullinger/Oden

    bench Price/marco/Jaberko/Reggie will./thompson/randolph/thabeet/sean williams

Richard Jefferson- This may be a bit of a stretch, but I think the Spurs would protect Danny Green, Tiago Splitter, Gary Neal, and Leanord over him, adn if not, I would take one of the aforementioned players.

James Jones- I’m assuming that the Heat would keep their big in Joel Anthony, and keep Mike Miller over him, so Jones has to go, but he would get a well deserved chance to show he can be a starter in this league.

Shane Battier- He also goes in this scenario, assuming that the Heat protect The Big three, Cole, Chalmers, Haslem, Miller, and Anthony.

Reggie Williams- He’s on the Bobcats, and hasn’t even played a minute this year, and I think he can give me some solid scoring in limited minutes.

Josh Selby- Assuming they take Darrell Arthur and Pondexter over him, than he’ll be the odd man out, he gives you some potential for the future and some youth.

Derrick Character- Just looking for a young big, he would be availible.

Travis Leslie- He’ll be a guy you can develop, and he’ll be there.

Trey Thompkins- Need some more bigs, a young guy that has some height, can give you some good minutes.

Luke Babbit- A jumpshooting 6-9 foward, he may develop, but just trying to find a diamond in the rough

Earl Clark- An athletic big, young, thought that he would breakout and be a solid contributor for the Suns, but I guess not.

Jodie Meeks- This seems like a stretch, but as long as the 76ers take Vucevic(they will) and Thadeous Young OR Elton Bradn, Meeks would be availible.

Jeremy Tyler- I hope my Dubs keep him, but at this point they wouldn’t, so he would be a good pickup.

Timothy Mosgov- The Nuggets are so loaded, someone including Mosgov and someone else would availible, and Mosgov has showed in limited time that in time he can be a servicable rookie.

That is an expansion Frachise, plus a top rookie, in which case I would take Harrison Barnes

This team sucks a$$, and probably wouldn’t even win 15 games.

    City- Mumbai, India
