high floorParticipantWhat a game for Chris Paul. With James Harden struggling, CP 3 put the team on his back and carried the Rockets to IMO one of the most intriguing WCF in recent memory.
- 41pts, 7rebs, 10assists, 8threes, ZERO to’s
In addition, 20 of those points came in the 4th quarter and he has only turned the ball over one time in the past 3 games. Silly efficiency considering he was dueling against an outstanding Utah defense.
Paul has gotten some flack for historically never advancing past the 2nd round of the playoffs. I still remember his late game debacles against OKC in the 2013 playoffs…. but he’s as clutch as they come & one of the games all-time great decision makers.
We’re in for a treat next round

whiteflashParticipantIt was a great performance, but we can’t overlook the fact that Mitchell was taking over the game, Utah was pulling away then he got hurt and Houston rallied. This is coming from a Houstonian. Don’t like the Rockets chances against GS.

r377ParticipantYes, because if the future "Hall the Famer" Donavon Mitchell didn’t get injured the Jazz would of easily come back from 3-1 to win the series….

IndianaBasketballParticipantCongrats to CP3. He’s still the "Point God" in my eyes.
With that said, GS in 6. With GS going straight to their death lineup, I don’t see HOU being able to exploit them as much as they’ve done other teams. And we can just go ahead and throw what happened in the regular season out of the window.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantAlthough Utah was an excellent defensive team all season, they were no match for the offensive juggernaut that is Houston. What Paul brings to this team (besides of course another playmaker to take the pressure off harden) is the dimension of a lethal mid-range game. You can debate the merits of the mid-range shot from an analytics standpoint but it was crucial to them winning this series. The way Utah defends the pick and roll with Gobert dropping back at the rim leaves that shot for the taking and few shoot it better than cp3.
However, those shots will not be nearly as available in the next round. While I think this will be the toughest challenge the warriors have faced since acquiring Durant, if their stars are all focused and clicking I’m still picking them to win (even though I think their roster is far less balanced than it was last season).

TRC1991ParticipantWarriors in 6
then Warriors over Cavs in 6.
Yawn.

SwatLakeCityParticipantI know I’m in the minority here but I seriously think the Rockets have a better team than the Warriors do. This will be one of hell of series and one that will probably go down in history. Rockets in 7. Philly comes back and beats Boston in 7 and in the process becomes the first team to come back from a 3-0 deficit. Then they beat Cavs in 7. Houston beats Philly in 6. The Rockets have an incredible team, I knew it from the day they got CP3. So do the Warriors, but that’s normal for them. The Rockets set the bar very high, but I do think they have the team to shock the world and do what practically everyone thinks is impossible: Beat the Warriors in a 7 game series in the playoffs.

NickWayne87ParticipantI know I know, you going against the grain and PRAYING that the INEVITABLE finals matchup that we ALL KNEW WAS COMING BEFORE THE SEASON STARTED isn’t going to happen. Holding out HOPE. I’m sorry. I’m so so very very sorry.

dmo21ParticipantI don’t think you’re in the minority picking the team with the best regular season record to win the title. When I did my playoff pickem post, 6 out of 10 posters picked the Rockets to win it all. Not a huge sample size, but it does show that having Houston win it all is some obscure, against the grain idea.

high floorParticipantHe’s the x-factor. If he continues to play elite defense & scores efficiently in the teens I think the Rockets have a legitimate chance to win in 6 or 7 games

SwatLakeCityParticipantI was talking about the minority in this thread. I remember what I said in your playoff pick’em post. As of that point in this thread no one had said Houston would beat the GSW. They were all thinking Warriors, someone even predicted a GSW sweep of Houston

HitsterParticipantCP3 is playing as well as ever at Houston although his bare numbers may be down a bit alongside Harden. He’ll probably be one of the most fired up players in either Conference Final. He was waited a long time to get here and it may be his best ever chance to get that elusive title.
