JoeWolf1What do you guys think of Chris Paul’s trade demands? It’s understandable that one of the best point guards in the league wants to play for a winner, and NO hasn’t done much of that lately, but citing the teams he’d want to play with in order to play with another superstar kinda of comes off as a little diva like, in my opinion. You can’t fault a guy for wanting to win, but is demanding trades so you can play with your superstar friends any better or any worse than waiting til free agency to construct your mini dream team?

TRC1991ParticipantUniversal….you’re blaming professional athletes for wanting to go to a place where they have the best chance to win…i feel like the whole point as a competitive person is to win and going to a contender would more than likely put you in that position
it wouldnt make much sense if Chris Paul was like “yeah, i want to go to either the Raptors or Timberwolves because i’m sick of seeing them lose and I want to make the people in those cities happy”
and new york isn’t necessarily a contender brotha

JoeWolf1If Paul can stay healthy they can sneak in the playoffs as a 7 or 8 seed, and they even have some good young talent in Collison and Thornton, I don’t see them competing in the Finals anytime soon, but when did 4th year players demand playing for a contender? You’ve barely been in the league that long, pay your dues, work hard, then leave as a free agent. I can’t believe after one non playoff season, in which he missed 30 some games, he trying to pick his teams so he and his friends can play together.

kicker16ParticipantIf CP3 lands on the knicks he would throw up some ridiculous fantasy numbers. Playing with Amare in D’Antoni’s system they could do some damage in the Eastern Conference.

Chiller187ParticipantI’m not sure they would be serious title contenders, but Chris Paul and Stoudamire together would make for some exciting basketball. I’m sure Knicks fans would go crazy over that combination!

RUDEBOY_ParticipantCP3 had kept his mouth shut until a few weeks ago..After seeing other teams make moves to improve their rosters..While the cash strapped Hornets did nothing..
He was really peeved at the Hornets for getting rid of Byron Scott..But kept quiet about it..
With him healthy next season they could’ve been a 7th or 8 th seed..But they have too many holes to be a serius contender…Knicks management should be in a meeting right now trying to put together a package…0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/22/2010 - 5:00am #359814
PlatypusParticipantChris Paul is one of the nicest guys in the league, he loves New Orleans and would love to win there. The team is rebuilding and he wants a team who will contend. Thats understandable to me, he’s doing this in the best way possible. Its like Kevin Garnett or Ray Allen before they were traded, thats what he’s looking for but he doesnt wanna be old like them.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/22/2010 - 5:04am #359819
billykParticipantWho wants to play with overrated and overpaid players like Peja, Okafor, Posey, and Mo Pete… The point of playing is to win championships… It seems to me players want to spend their prime trying to WIN championships.. Garnett changed the game by coming to the NBA outta highschool, again when he was signed that crazy contract in Minny, and now going to Boston (past his prime) has opened alot of players eyes, guys want to compete NOW, not when their 31 and on the downside of their career…
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/22/2010 - 5:07am #359821
JoeWolf1If so, is picking the teams you want to and having your team release statements saying that you wouldn’t be in a New Orleans jersey to start the season the best way to do it? Like I said, you can’t fault a guy for wanting to win, but he’s two years away from free agency and only 25 years old. Lebron and Bosh changed player movement in the NBA forever, I may just be holding on the way things were done in the past, but this just seems like he’s looking for an easy way out.

0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/22/2010 - 5:29am #359829
PlatypusParticipanthe’s telling them that if he isnt traded that he will probably leave he’s just having the team get talent back. he’s not demanding he said i “hope” and he said where he’d like to go. He’s just being an honest guy he wants to win and not rebuild and if they are going to rebuild that he doesnt want to be apart of it and trading him will help them rebuild
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/22/2010 - 5:31am #359832
Chiller187ParticipantIt depends…is he willing to go to a team that is trying to win or is he trying to pick a team where he can play with other greats?
I think he is in a different position than most superstars, the NO Hornets have absolutely refused to take the steps necessary to put a winner on the floor. Their trades and signings are intended to only put enough of a team on the floor to be respectable but still profitable. I think a superstar has a right to want to go to a team that will spend the money to try to put a winning team around them.
The question then becomes: Would he be willing to go to a team like Cleveland? Their owner is certainly willing to spend the money to try to build a contender. Is that enough for Chris Paul?

billykParticipantIts funny we put talented athletes on pedastools from a young age and when they act like DIVAS everybody starts bugging out… You get what you ask for…
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/22/2010 - 6:54am #359879
sheltwon3ParticipantI am a Hornet’s fan and I want Paul to have a chance to win. We have Collison and I would not mind helping my homie who is a Knicks fans by Paul going there and us getting Chandler, Randolph, maybe douglas and some picks for Paul and Peja. They could trade anybody but Amare, Gallo who are untouchable. Knicks has cap space and can take more money back this year. Melo looks to be coming to Knicks as well. Knicks get to win now and New Orleans gets young talent to develop and possibly be good down the road.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/22/2010 - 6:55am #359880
JNixonParticipantThey haven’t improved, they fired the Coach he was ride or die for, and their team’s front office is a bit messy right now, so he acts for a trade. He wants to compete and asking for a trade isn’t bad to me. You have to understand that every players goal is a title, and the Hornets aren’t competing for a title anytime soon with their contracts and lack of elite talent. He wants to win, and getting traded to a contender would really make everyone’s life easier. Darren Collison, while I don’t think he’ll ever be a great PG (more like pretty good starter or ELITE backup), is a decent piece to have if Paul leaves anyway.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/22/2010 - 6:55am #359881
McWinningParticipantYou honestly dont think the Hornets can do better than Chandler, and Randolph?
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/22/2010 - 6:57am #359883
Mr.Knick 32ParticipantI think Paul has all the right in the world to demand a Trade.
Like I said last night, the Hornets didn’t make enough moves to make CP3 believe they could win a title. If your best player doesn’t believe he could win a title on said team- He has every right to pursue a new change of scenery.
Also, The Knicks are VERY interesting. Think about it- That’s not a 45 win team. I honestly believe Paul said NY with the believe of He and Amar’e will be adding Carmelo in 2011.
Also- ESPN is saying NY is the top team….

bkballerParticipantKnicks have what the hornets want too..cheap young talent. Symbol, what kind of package do you think it would take for NO to pull the trigger from a combo of Randolph, Gallo, Chandler, Walker, Douglas, Mozgov, Azibukee, turiaf?
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/22/2010 - 7:04am #359889
RUDEBOY_ParticipantCollison will become an AllStar if given the minutes..But he’s no CP3…Paul is 1 of those elite players that can change the outcome of a game..When you get guys like him you dont trade them unless you really have to..Darren Collison doesnt have the court vision of CP3..I honestly believe that Paul made David West a much better player..
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/22/2010 - 7:08am #359891
Mr.Knick 32ParticipantLike I said before
Curry, Azubkie, Gallo, Chandler and 2 1st round picks ( 2011 and 2013) for Chris Paul and Julian Wright.
2 solid players, 2 draft picks and 13-14 million in cap space for New Orleans.

This is my trade I made using the machine but you can add money and draft picks to make it work out.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/22/2010 - 7:30am #359910
McWinningParticipantYou cant your 2011, or 2013 picks.
You cant trade back, to back, picks and you traded away your 2010, and 2012 picks.
So earliest pick you can trade is 2014.

stanford hoopsCRy baby-yea everyone wants a title but these days the players want to take the road where u don’t have to work as hard and no one is patient, not willing to build up to a title team
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/22/2010 - 7:41am #359928
Mr.Knick 32ParticipantWe could draft a player then move them….
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/22/2010 - 7:52am #359952
PureshooterParticipantHe has every right to demand a trade. NO isn’t doing enough to make them a contender and if he stays put he will just end up being a one man show with no hope of winning a title. The West just got weaker and the East has some nice places he could go to end up a contender. He just wants to be somewhere right now where he’ll have a chance, and that isn’t New Orleans.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/22/2010 - 7:54am #359953
Mr.Knick 32ParticipantCRy baby-yea everyone wants a title but these days the players want to take the road where u don’t have to work as hard and no one is patient, not willing to build up to a title team
So then Kobe was a cry baby in 2008 then correct when he demanded a trade?
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/22/2010 - 8:06am #359973
PlatypusParticipantif there is a trade Okafor will be thrown in because the owner is cheap and would want to lose his contract as well and is ok with Peja’s cuz its expiring and possibly Posey thrown in there
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/22/2010 - 8:07am #359975
stanford hoopsYep Kobe was a cry baby as well. I’m not sure why people thinks it just soooo easy to make this or that trade to get better. U have to have things other teams want. The hornets were one of the top teams in the west before injuries so it’s not like they weren’t moving in the right direction. Players need to shut up and play untill they are free agents. GMs should start crying saying”stop getting hurt” or “average more points ast reb steals” or “win more games for us” to the players
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/22/2010 - 8:11am #359980
Mr.Knick 32ParticipantI’m not sure why people thinks it just soooo easy to make this or that trade to get better
Maybe because the Lakers added Pau Gasol and went from a bottom west playoff team ( or non contender) to a Finals team and won 2 rings in a row.
I disagree, I think if you want to win and you feel you cannot win in said area- Ask to leave. New Orleans was a top playoff team in the West but got LAZY and allowed many other teams to get better while they stayed stagnant.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/22/2010 - 8:20am #359988
PureshooterParticipantI agree Knicksboy32. There was an interesting stat mentioned the other day that in the last 25 years in the NBA, there have only been 7 different franchises to win titles:
Bulls
Pistons
Heat
Rockets
Spurs
Lakers
CelticsIf there are 7 different teams to win the title in the next 25 years, it is very doubtful the Hornets will be one of them.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/22/2010 - 8:31am #359995
JoeWolf1Pure Shooter, teams can turn things around, Miami won 25 games in 02-03 and won it all 3 years later. Dallas was a laughing stock in the 90s and hasn’t won fewer than 50 games in the past 10 years. Its hard to win a title, but its easier to turn a team around. Look at OKC, Portland and others. With Chris Paul, New Orleans with the right moves could win 50 games within the next two years, if he’s unhappy then, bolt for free agency, but demanding a trade to 4 specific teams is a little too much.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/22/2010 - 8:37am #360003
stanford hoopsHow is injuries being lazy? So gallo has the right to demand a trade as well right since the knicks have beenuch worst then the hornets.
So you would be ok with Amare saying he wants to be traded to the lakers next year if the knicks don’t make the playoffs.
And where does it stop. A bunch of college guys telling teams not to draft them so they can go into a winning situation? It’s been two years since the hornets were one of the top teams in the west so is the cut off two years then start crying for a trade.
But the best part is he’s under contract for 2 more years so they can trade him
to anywhere they want. And they already made it known they won’t trade him
unless he burns them
by trashing the te. He does that and he might get traded to the t wolves0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/22/2010 - 8:42am #360009
stanford hoopsIt’s easier? Ha. It’s nit easy to draft a player that turns out to be Roy or Westbrook or durant. There’s luck and alot of losing involved with that. Hornets had cp3 get hurt and there starting sf gets hurt. There starting center gets ankle surgery.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/22/2010 - 8:45am #360013
Mr.Knick 32ParticipantIt’s been two years since the hornets were one of the top teams in the west so is the cut off two years then start crying for a trade.
Yes but name me one move that made the Hornets a lock to be in that top 3 seed in the West for beyond that season? Chris Paul had to have a Career season/ MVP type season/ Best season for a PG to get to be a top 4 seed in 07-08.
How many moves have we seen by teams like Portland, Houston, Dallas, Oklahoma City that pushed them to higher levels. Even when Paul and NO played well in 2008, they were the 7th seed.
I don’t like the fact Paul listed his teams. That makes it look premeditated but Paul wants to leave. If he wants to leave, New Orleans should look to deal him and get back as much as they can.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/22/2010 - 8:48am #360014
Mr.Knick 32ParticipantOh my bad, they made a couple moves
Paying Morris Peterson a MLE deal to be a 2 guard after he played the 3 for 6 seasons only to realize he couldn’t defend nor score on 2’s.
Paying James Posey the full MLE.
Why didn’t NO get Stephen Jackson when he wanted a deal? Could have easily gotten him….
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/22/2010 - 8:58am #360018
stanford hoopsWasn’t Portland and Dallas better 2,3 years ago then they are now or last year. Same with Houston. None of thoses teams were title conteders this past season and u forget Paul
was hurt this past season so they weren’t expected to be good so basically he’s crying after one year?0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/22/2010 - 9:03am #360021
JoeWolf1They’ve had pretty good draft last year. A shooter like Thorton and a great backup in Collison, and this year a forward to spread the floor in Brackins and a guy to run the floor in Poindexter. You’ve got a point knicksboy, but I blame a lot of NO’s down season to the rapid deterioration of Peja and Julian Wright’s inability to learn how to play NBA basketball. I think they are a legit small forward away from being a good team again, my arguement isn’t that NO is the place he needs to spend his entire career, my beef is with that he picked 4 teams for NO to trade him to in order to team up with another superstar, after one bad year in which he was hurt.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/22/2010 - 9:04am #360023
stanford hoopsAll these moves Dallas has made since there finals apperance and they’ve done nothing but gotten worst. All these moves Portland and Houston has made and how far have they gotten second round and first round of the playoffs. The hornets already can do that when healthy. And jacksons contract demand ling term was high and with him. Doesn’t make the hornets much better so why sign him. The bobcats with him were a 8th seed and might be that or miss the playoffs this year
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/22/2010 - 9:06am #360025
doubledribblerParticipantPaul has a valid complaint. Not sure why people are upset with him wanting to have something around him. I don’t care how good a guy is, his teammates are a big part of his success even if he’s the one pushing them and making them better. New Orleans has done absolutely nothing to get better. They peaked about 3 years ago and since have been dumping salary and making negligible moves ever since. Sure you can talk about the nice year Collison had, but even then, how much does that help Paul when he is healthy? Collison and Paul are too small to play together. George Shinn buried the team when they were in Charlotte and he is doing the same here.
I would give anything if we could get to see teams play other teams without their best player. Remove Kobe, Dwight, Deron, etc and let’s see how good the guys around them are.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/22/2010 - 9:08am #360026
stanford hoopsPeja knows how to play he’s just hurt. You can douch when you’re injuries. When healthy he’s shown he is a allstar or close to it. I’m sure age is a factor right now as well. To be honest when healthy they are better then Portland and the knicks and dallas
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/22/2010 - 9:13am #360030
stanford hoopsSo basically there are too many NBA teams because if all the stars just decide to ask
for trades after three years there will be alot of horrible teams. Iggy should ask for a trade. Granger. All the clippers. Curry lobe. Dwill since Utah has been in the same spot for years. Broy Dirk since Dallas has been worst since getting to the finals0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/22/2010 - 9:23am #360038
BiggysmallsParticipantExactly what Stanford hoops said. Whats the point in having 30 NBA teams? With all the stars wanting to go to play together now, there are like 5 good teams…its terrible for competition. Whatever happened to good competition and parity and rivalries. Now all of the good players just demand trades after a down year and want to go play with other stars. Its absolutlely rediculous. NO Chris Paul does not have a right to demand a trade, be a freaking man and go play the damn game. Is that what the NBA is now, if a guy doesnt have everything perfect, he demands a trade. Thats called a sellout and a frontrunner in my book and its plain childish.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/22/2010 - 9:24am #360040
mikeyvthedonParticipantOf all the teams he listed, this one would seem to have the most legitimate chance of happening. I am guessing Vince Carter and Jameer Nelson would be involved. I did a trade checker on RealGm that sent Paul, Stojakovic and Darius Songaila for Jameer Nelson, Vince Carter, Marcin Gortat and Mikael Pietrus, and it worked out. It would take a chunk out of Orlando’s depth, but I think it would be worth the risk to take on Chris Paul. Paul and Howard would be a pretty awesome duo, and their shooters would still be off the hook with Peja and Reddick. The Hornets would have to take on another point, that might hinder the plan of handing the reins over to Collison, but he would still get his minutes I am sure, plus they would have some more options at 2/3 with Vince and Pietrus, not to mention an actual center in Gortat. I am guessing the Paul trade would be much more complicated than this, but I think it is a possibility. I am guessing it is all smoke right now and that Chris Paul will let this play out and most likely go nowhere, but Orlando seems like a possibility. Another team, though it was not listed, was of course Portland who has wanted Chris Paul forever. It would more than likely have to include Andre Miller, Przybilla, Rudy Fernandez and possibly even Nicolas Batum (who would be a huge pick-up for the Hornets on the wing). But again, I am guessing the trade would be much more complicated than this and include another team. I have to kind of agree with Chris Paul in that the Hornets really did a number on their team. The Peja signing years ago was awful, and Okafor makes far too much for far too little effect. If they had kept Chandler at least he would have been in the last year of his deal. Right now the Hornets have major gaping holes and very few tradeable assets, besides maybe Collison and Paul.

duhrant35ParticipantTo contend for a championship you need to not only have good players, but you need to have a to have an owner that is willing to spend money and a gm who knows how to build a team, Recent champions like the Celtics, Lakers, Spurs, and Heat all had owners that were willing to spend money. (Not so much with the Spurs) They each also had a great front office (more than made up for by the Spurs). The Cavaliers had the owner, but they had a terrible front office. The didn’t build any sort of team around LeBron, they made rash decisions instead of looking in the now and in the future.
That’s why CP3 wants to leave. The Hornets were like the Cavs in that they haven’t made any good signings since he’s been on the team, and the owner also will not spend.
KG clearly regretted playing in Minny all of those years because they had an inept front office. Players are getting smarter and realizing that legacies are built on championships, so they are trying to put themselves in the best possible position to win at a younger age.
Kevin Durant is getting a lot of credit for re-signing with the Thunder, but he would never have done that if they didn’t have Sam Presti in place and a strong ownership group. Players finally have the leverage and are using it to their advantage.
