sacphil_08ParticipantSo recently Chris Bosh was asked about what his motivation was to sign with the heat. The obvious reason would be that he’d be playing with 2 of the premiere perimeter guys in the league in Lebron and Wade but also had this to say:
"Really, it’s all about being on TV at the end of the day. Seriously. A guy can average 20 and 10 and nobody really cares. If you dont see it on national TV then it doesn’t really happen."
So i understand his point. There are alot of guys who are some of the best players but play on small market teams or on teams that don’t get nat’l exposure (chris kaman, brook lopez, joe johnson up until the last couple years etc) but really? I thought that playing in the NBA was about trying to win the ultimate prize and if you are to be on TV all the time then that just comes with the territory. I think alot of guys dont play for the love of the game anymore as much as they do to get exposure and just overrall respect for the game of basketball itself. You dont see as many ‘hungry’ guys anymore. There are definitely guys who play and put all they have out each night but i dont think that thats the ‘motto’ in the league like it used to be. I feel its more about the glamour, the skilled guys and the athletes and their abilities, hyping guys, blowing their heads up to the point that they say things like this. Back in the 80s and 90s it was about trying to take down whoever was the top dog at that time. The 80s were about dethroning the celtics and that was what everyone was after until the lakers came to be. Then the pistons were the team til the Bulls came through and so on and so forth. Now it should be teams worried about knocking out the lakers who have repeated. I really only think Orlando and Boston have chips on their shoulders to really beat the lakers and everyone else is more focused on lebron and living up to his hype, or kevin durant and how ‘great’ okc is. I just feel like the focus of the sport itself is going in the wrong direction. There are plenty of young guys coming up and to hear the egotism/remarks guys like lebron, bosh, etc make will shape how the next generation of players is and i feel it could worse if we have the stars of the league making those kinds of comments

Mr. 19134ParticipantThat’s a disgrace and after 2 games he’s averaging 11.5 points and 39% shooting.

Michael.S.ParticipantIf you are actually an elite player you can lead your team to be one of the best. And then you will get the exposure/coverage. Why the hell would ESPN/TNT want to televise Raptor games last year if they essntially sucked?

Toronto16ParticipantKevin Garnett earned the nick name "The Big Ticket" playing in Minnesota, which is a smaller TV market than Toronto. So if you are good, they will put you on TV. I do remember NBC coming here for Vince Carter. So what Bosh says mean nothing. He is nothing more than a 2nd or 3rd option and can’t get a team over the hump being the main guy.

OhCanada-ParticipantAs a response to your statement I say "Enter Blake Griffin and the 2010 draft class".
John Wall- Works very hard down to Earth guy
Evan Turner- Another guy who would take a bullet for the teams sacrafice
Gordon Hayward- Reminds me of an extremely talented and skilled Shane Battier
Cole Aldrich- Blue collar guy who got jhis draft position out working people
Ed Davis- Guy who thrives on the defensive end
Larry Sanders
Avery Bradley
Landry Fields
the list goes on….
Blake Griffin will make everyone work on the defensive rebounding side. He is quite possibly already the top offensive rebounder in the game do to his hustle and you can see the effect he has on his teammates, maybe if he reaches superstar stature with this workethic it can change how bigs go about rebounding, and how players go about hustling.

i dont think you can come to those conclusions already… there were plenty of guys that came in playing for the right reasons and then after they felt they had proven themselves you can see the decrease in overrall passion for the game. I think of steve francis, stephon marbury those kinds of guys who earned the huge contracts and then laid eggs after their contracts but as rookies playing within their rookie contracts they produced. Not to say that those guys will give in to the glitz and glamor of having a big name in the league but its definitely too early to tell

Im Your FatherParticipantI don’t see the Shane Battier comparison at all.
Battier is one of the best defensive players in the league, Turner is not and I doubt he ever will be.
Battier is a knockdown 3-point shoote, Turner is not.
Turner is a point forward who is a great ball handler, Battier is not.
Their games are totally different, Battier is a defensive specialist who can also shoot the ball, Turner is a point forward.

IndianaBasketballParticipantDurant, Westbrook, Rose, Wall, Griffin… The league is in VERY good hands. Humble, hardworking players who care about winning… Not just being in the spotlight or trying to become the next billionaires.

PureshooterParticipantI’d bash a lot of players for saying that…but the guy has been in Toronto for his entire career. Toronto is an awesome city, but there is very little media coverage of the Raptors.
