Bankroll PJParticipantI think it’s remarkable what this organization has been able to do since the hiring of Brad Stevens. IMO they’ve brought the culture of a college basketball program to professionals. This team runs a 10 man rotation, they’re all unselfish (although Isaiah Thomas likes to shoot a lot), and they all compete on every possession. They have young guys like RJ Hunter, Terry Rozier, James Young, and Jordan Mickey that they can afford to be patient with and bring along at their own pace like many college teams do (or at least used to) with freshman. Brad Stevens has these guys believing in each and sharing the ball and it’s fun to watch even though they don’t have a star, and a star could be on the way since they’ll have the Nets draft pick. Currently, they’re 8th in the East after taking a tough loss to the Warriors.
How good can this team be and how far away are they from becoming true contenders?

markfitz14ParticipantIt is pretty amazing to watch a team rebuild without tanking. Shows a different blueprint of how to build a winning team. The Net’s picks could possibilly take the team to the next level for sure. The crafty moves by Ainge have made this team a playoff team right now and that is awesome. They would still be outmatched by Lebron and company in the playoffs. But I think they could compete against any other team now that they seems to be improving even more this year.Must be the Olynk effect lol.
I think to many teams move on from young guys without developing them like some other sports like the MLB. Bradley has really worked over the years and has turned into a quality starter in this league. 2 years ago I didn’t think he had what it takes. It really speaks a lot to the coach and management of this team. I hope they keep developing Rozier, RJ and Young over the next two years.

natevalParticipantCeltics are headed in the right direction, they have me believing. KO, Bradley and Sully are playing some of the best ball of their careers. Smart is hurt but all signs point to him helping us for the rest of the season not hurting us. All the rookies look good and Mickey will probably be able to take over the Lee or Johnson role for our team next year.
This team isn’t going to win a championship this season but they will be a tough match for anyone in the playoffs. They’re deep and play hard every game. That Nets’s picks the next three years is really incredible. Boston should be an attractive market for any FA’s next season

holefillers1ParticipantYou still need a super star to win in this league. Outside of Larry Brown’s Detroit teams I cant remember a modern era team being a perennial conteneder without one. As far as tanking goes the Celtics had pieces to trade. They didn’t have to start from scratch.

losnopesosParticipantI wonder how well their system would work if they had a real star on their team. I’m a big DMC fan, but I wonder if he could thrive in their system.

omphalosParticipantLet’s just hope the Nets end up with a terrible record to get us a top 3 pick.
I think it’s better to get the star as the final piece of the rebuild so the player doesn’t have to bear all the burden of carrying bad team-mates. Think Derrick Rose in Chicago – had some solid pieces around before he got drafted and he took them to the next level.

PulseGlazerParticipantI still think that Ben Wallace was a superstar, just one of a different type.
And the Celts will find that star. They have the best combination of picks and young assets in the league.
