Buddy Hield is playing fantastic

He has been on a tear this year. If I were to power rank the SG's this season, he would be inside my top 10..... which many would not have thought possible before the start of the season.

He is shooting a blistering 44% from beyond the 3-point arc this year, and is making 3.2 per game. Good enough for 4th in the entire league. He has a very, very nice 60% true shooting percentatage.

Compared to last season, he's getting up 16FG attempts per game. A nice increase upon the 11.7 he hoisted last year. But his usage is only up marginally (24% this year, against 23.4% last year. A great sign that he can eventually take on more responsibility.

He likely won't make an all star team this year, but he'll be in consideration if a couple of players are injured. And if he improves more next season, he could be looking at a massive contract extension in 2020.

Great story IMO.

Def a great story. I think it

Def a great story. I think it was you who praised the Kings young core before the season, and i kinda scoffed at that (even though i like hield, fox, and bagley). Is hield a free agent this summer? Will the kings pony up? Keep ballin Buddy $$$

Yep

I wrote about how I liked the Kings & their young core more than the mainstream media was publicizing prior to the season.

Where I was wrong was Harry Giles. I thought he would be a sleeper contributor to them this season, and he's simply not ready for regular minutes within the rotation. Also, WCS has been better than I expected. Contract year motivation I guess, right?

I'm going to write a separate thread about Bagley sometime in the near future, with a couple comps I believe he's shown flashes of. I've liked what i've seen from him when he gets minutes.

Giles has been playing great

Giles has been playing great he just isnt getting any minutes. They are bringing him along slowly as they should. He's been killing the g-league and his per minutes numbers in the pros have been good. Hes just sorta stuck in limbo like Christian Wood at this point waiting for his shot. I actually think hes gonna have a big night tonight against LA taking all og Skals minutes, well see.

Buddy is having a good season

Buddy is having a good season so far and has started to look a very good shooting guard. He needed a big year this season with it being contract year and especially as he turned 26 recently so isn't like a guy in their early 20's coming off their rookie deal. This may be his best chance of a large NBA contract and I'd figure the Kings will look to get him tied up next summer.

When the DMC trade went down the Kings said they thought he could become a Steph Curry type player so whilst he may never reach those heights his 3 point shooting has become elite.

My mistake I forgot that

My mistake I forgot that Hield wasn't taken until the 2016 draft due to him being 23 going on 24 then. He must have been one of the older guys to be drafted that high in recent years. Even when players used to do the full 4 years in college they were usually only 22 going on 23 not 23 going on 24 as Hield was.

So he will be 27 going on 28 when his extension kicks in but with him developing as an elite shooter he could be the sort of guy who could still be an effective player a lot longer than younger guys who rely on their athleticism.
