The Milwaukee Bucks have fired Jason Kidd on Monday. Many were expecting this move since the team is not performing very well and the defense has been horrible this year.

It‘s unclear right now if the players asked for this move but there seemed to be a rift between the players and Kidd as of lately.

What do you guys think of this and who is a candidate to replace him and what to expect from this team going forward?

Read Giannis is pissed about this he was really close with Kidd.  Also saw this will be the most sought out position in the offseason becasue of their nice young pieces.  The only name I have seen linked to the job as of now is Monty Williams, but he isn’t the big name guy that can get Bucks to the next level, which is why they said they fired Kidd because they didn’t see him getting the Bucks to that championship level.

the one who got Anthony Davis and the Pels to the playoffs, only to be fired that offseason? I like him for the Bucks. His players seem to like him and want to play hard for him.

Monty Williams is a lateral move hasn’t proven he can get a team past the first round. Milwaukee is looking to upgrade not make a lateral move.

Jim O’Brien has been a HC in this league before. He is currently serving as an assistant with the Sixers.  Their system would play well in Milwaukee.

Interesting to see how a new coach will use Giannis. I’d like to see them get Parker back  then just run all day and switch everything, with Giannis at the 5. (Bledsoe, Middleton, Brogdon, Parker, Giannis)

Do they put an interim in and then wait to see what they can do in the off season. The HC’s at Dallas and Clippers have both won titles, do they take someone like that with a very proven track record.

JVG is a very interesting one, he has done media work for over a decade but took charge of the Dream Team for the FIBA Americup and World Cup qualifiers so getting back on the bench mght have reignited his coaching interest. I’d only say that he has a very well paid media role and having done the Team USA stint, he could well be on Pops staff for World Finals and 2020 Olympics. Pop will be 71 then so may well not carry on as Team USA HC. JVG could be in prime position for that role and run it alongside his lucrative media work.

I think Kidd would be a better fit for a veteran team. The Grizzlies would be a nice place for him to land right now they have an interim coach JB Bickerstaff.

Honestly, with all the gimmicks Kidd employs to his team’s detriment, he should coach college ball. He’s been trying to play college defense vs pro teams for years. This year was particularly bad from a defensive standpoint. The purpose of using gimmicks (like blitzing and trapping everywhere) is to give different looks and keep the opposing team guessing, but the way Kidd uses them they are entirely too predictable and easy to game plan against. He’s just a bad, bad coach. One of the worst in the league, which is sad to say since he was a hell of a cerebral player.

I’ll throw a name out there that I’d love to see given a shot at the pro level, someone who i think could have a Brad Stevens-like effect: Wisconsin native, Tony Bennett. I’m not sure what his contract buyout situation is, but regardless, the Bucks should give him a call.

I would actually agree with this. I got bashed for saying the same thing last year but in the playoffs loss to the Raptors he got outcoached by Casey. He uses tons of gimmicks and never sticks to the gameplan. Its almost as if he cant take the backseat to the players and wants to win the game through his own tactics.

If you honestly believe contender you go big name hunting: This means you have two options 1) wait to the offseason and see who gets fired  or retires: My guess is Doc,Lue,Cassey,Malone and Bikerstaff are all on the hot seat.

    2) Or you try coax some names off the sideline back into the game: Fizz,Kevin Mchale,Monty Williams,Jeff Van G,Mark Jackson or if you are feeling really game head hunt someone for a dual role that wants a challenge and is a very goood coach-Brad stevens,Kerr(if you believe can coach a normal team not a big 4 team) Coach K etc…

If you don’t believe that they are a contender then you hire an up and comer who has potential ala the Luke Walton type coach (who is young or very good reputation) or Thibs when he went to the Bulls the first year..

As for Kidd being fired not surprised he wasn’t the best coach and he is the sort of coach that gets you to the developmental stage then after that he is not really that great..See Brooklyn stint as he had talent  and didn’t really get that much out of it..

Now that he is fired I wouldn’t mind seeing him get some mentoring in with Lonzo though as that would be cool to have break down some film with him to see what they both saw and would do in that situation..

Kidd probably has been a bit unlucky as the team are still above 0.500 with probably their 2nd best player Jabari Parker still out. But the Owners and Front Office probably feel Kidd has taken the team as far as he can and opening the vacancy now could give them the lead to getting the right person in place.

Lots of names have been floated around but getting a top Assistant NBA coach or a top college HC released would be hard at this time. If the Bucks give Joe Prunty the rest of the season and he does reasonably well, what do they do then?

I’d say they either give Prunty a run and if he does well, he could have the job or otherwise get someone in ASAP.

Also a lot of guys mentioned are Assistants and like Prunty, we don’t know if they are or want to be HC material. Some guys are specialists at one role or prefer being a very good assistant like Prunty has been for a number of years.

The name that did interest me was Ettore Messina from the Spurs staff, he has had huge success in Europe as a Head Coach and knows the NBA from his time with the Spurs so could be an ideal candidate. But would the Spurs release him even with a generous buyout and even Pops cannot go on for ever. So a lot could depend whether Ettore had ambitions on that job long term and whether he felt he was better being with the Spurs as an assistant or striking out on his own as a HC.

Just saw a list of 5 targets for Bucks now. I would rank them in this order in terms of who they should go after first:Jeff Van Gundy, Rick Pitino, Jerry Stackhouse, David Fizdale, Monty Williams.

Kidd underachieved simply because he never implemented a real system there. Too much talent and balance there for them to barely be above 500.. I’m more interested to see who ends up getting Tim Grgurich the defensive guru he had on his coaching staff.

As for the Bucks, wouldn’t be surprised to see them end up dipping into the college ranks going for a big splash with someone like Jay Wright or Kevin Ollie instead of another rehash coach like Monty Williams.

It would be nice to see someone like Becky Hammond or Ettore Messina get a shot. David Blatt return?
