I think most of us here knew not to really judge Ingram based on his rookie season because he was so raw and rail thin. It’s only the first half of the first summer league game, but he looks like he’s improved a lot and could be really good, and a lot of his buckets he got by himself. What do people expect from him this year?

Also, I might be crazy and it may just be because he’s 6’9″ and the form on his jumper but he looks Birdesque. Is that a terrible playstyle comparison? He’s no Lebron but I think his passing is underrated

Walton said on the jump today that Ingram was talking trash at practice. Him taking on an alpha dog role will be great for his game.

Thomas Bryant looking like he could be a very solid NBA player

I almost made this into a full Lakers post because Thomas Bryant and Kyle Kuzma both look like they can contribute. On the other hand, Zubac has looked awful

Brice Johnson for the Clippers looks like an All Star tonight, and Thornwell has 19 points that I haven’t even noticed but I’ve thought he’d have a decent career and that he can play

There’s been so hype surrounding ball and the potential free agents the Lakers can get next summer that I think a lot people have tended to forget about Ingram. I fully believe Ingram will eventually be a big time player in this league and I expect him to make big leap this season. I just pray that the Lakers are patient enough to let him develop.

but he had 1 rebound – One

He’s got to be more active on the glass

I Luv him but I agree w/ Dazzling. Let him Develop – he’s got a long way to go b/c he’s still really young

But I was very happy w/ his performace

There’s a reason why Magic says he’s untouchable. Once he’s 21 and packed on 20 more pounds, we’ll see what he is truly capable of (still 19 somehow).

I think he’s more Kawhi than KD and a great statline from him next year would be 15-17ppg, 6rpg, 4apg(he has a great feel for the game), and a couple blocks/steals

Strength will never be his strength (no pun intended).  225 is his absolute peak weight.

Ingram vs. Tatum should be a GREAT matchup!  Looking forward to that!

Wanna see more out of Lonzo.  Just didn’t get it done tonight.  Steph slow, out of sync.  Only watched the first 3 quarters but he didn’t show me much.

If Lonzo has another lackluster game, the pressure could start to get to him.

Didn’t totally look like a leader out there, either.  Not too aggresive, other than chucking 3 pointers.  What I mean is, he didn’t force his will onto the game.  Some guys show you the leadership and intangibles and make a positive imprint on the game.  Ingram looked good, Lonzo looked shaky.

… watching the Suns-Kings game right now, Fox is looking pretty good. Quick guy, showed me more of a motor than Ball.

The young Kings with those old Memphis vets should be pretty good next year.  Even if they don’t make the playoffs they will be fun to watch.

… Haven’t seen a TON of summer league, but I really like Tatum so far.  Ingram looked great.  That showdown (tomorrow?) might be the best one on one matchups in summer league…

Still waiting for Lonzo to show me something… Fox looks good but then again they might have a better summer league roster… they got a bunch of solid rooks plus Hield.  Suns have some guys, too.

    Lakers don’t look too talented.

I think they need to start BOTH Clarkson and Ball with Ingram at the 3 then let each guy take turns handling the ball and running the offense.  Put Randle at the 4 with I guess Brook Lopez at center.  Then experiment with some small ball lineups with Nance Jr. as the other big next to Randle.

Looks like Ingram is the go-to guy, and Lonzo’s number one job will be to get him going.  Then put 3 other guys around those two who can complement that style…

Maybe you run some triangle.  Ingram looks like one of those star wing players that Phil Jackson craved, and needed to win.  Lonzo also has a skill set that would work great in a triangle.  Lopez isn’t an athlete but he can shoot and score and take up space.  Randle is versatile.  Something along the lines of a poor man’s Chris Webber and a poor man’s Draymond Green.

With those guys being so young, unless they can get an ELITE and YOUNG free agent to sign up (Russ, Anthony Davis, Porzingas, next season’s Paul George wouldn’t be that old), I think that they should be PATIENT and build through the draft.  What protection is on next year’s pick?  Hmm… might need to get really lucky in the draft.

Bad ball movement. They’re trying to develop Ingram into a killer one-on-one guy. Great. But that’s contrary to Walton’s approach. The ball stops with one-on-one. I realize that they’re just working on developing him. He’s that important.

Still, the ball was stagnant. It really doesn’t help Ball. Ball plays best or Walton’s style: push, spread the floor, ball movement. You could see him doing his thing when Bryant and others were diving to the rim, when he was whipping it around the perimeter, and when he was chucking it way up the floor.

They want to get Ingram going, but if they want to get Ball going they need to keep the movement going. Have him and Ingram play at different times or have Ingram play in rhythm (at least when Ball is in). And Ball needs to drive. He did it once. He did it fine. He gives the ball up when he needs to score. Living outside won’t be helpful in getting going.

Bryant looks like he could help today for Ball’s type of offense in the NBA today. He looks like he can put a body on someone, but he can’t block at all. He blocked a guard today because he outran him from behind. Kuzma just looks good out there. He didn’t get a chance to do much, but if they give him a chance he can do a lot. He handles the ball better than I thought. His shot looks good and he looks like he can be decent on defense. Josh Hart didn’t show much and I don’t expect much from him.

I think it will be good to have Jordan Clarkson in the starting lineup. He can drive and open things up. If he can hit 3’s like he does in practice, it could be marvelous. He’s never had the floor spread for him so his 3’s might finally fall this year. He goes on great streaks, now maybe he puts it together. Power Forward is the interesting one. Kuzma is ideal, because he’ll probably end up one of their best 3 point shooters, but he’s probably not ready to start yet. Randle will sprint ahead on fast breaks and really help Lonzo push the ball (Clarkson to), but he couldn’t spread the floor if the free-throw line counted for 3 points. Nance is solid from 20 feet and maybe soon 3 and will be an outstanding alley-oop guy for Ball, running down the floor. They need a ton of time for all 3 PF’s. Ideally, you’d start one at center, but you don’t sit Brook Lopez. He fits in the least: he’s a half court player. Still, he played on the fastest pace team last year and hits 3’s okay.

It’s gonna take a lot of sacrifice by some of these guys to really play Walton’s style. Trading Randle makes a lot of sense. Maybe ever Lopez. Either way, their starters should score the heck out of the ball.

he will be very solid. His length is gonna be hard to score on and he’s got range on his jumper lakers FO is starting to make smart moves even tho they traded Russell but at least they don’t have to pay mosgov.

while the Sixers got Fultz maybe 3 other possible NBA players out there…

The Lakers are running Ball, Ingram…who is left…Clarkson and Ingram?  Wow they’re gonna be bad next year.  Playing nowhere close to NBA talent right now.  Ingram was like a toothpick last year.  I loved his smooth game, and with years of experienec in the NBA definitely comes confidence…but this year at least…the Lakers are gonna suck!

Classic Lakers hype job coming up this whole entire season.  I remember when Jodie Meeks and Nick Young were amazing cuz they had a couple good games.

if Ingram improves to about 16-18 PPG and gets his boards and assists up should the lakers sign Paul George? Honestly why would you sign a Player going into his prime when you have a young nucleus to keep building around, I wouldn’t.

Ingram’s rookie year was all about adjusting to the NBA, looking at his stats last season. His productivity improved month on month and he played all bar 3 games so gained a lot of experience along the way. He doesn’t turn 20 for a couple of months and will need a few years to fill out a bit more.

He was considered the clear 2nd best player in his draft year amnd whilst he may never be a superstar scorer, he can be an excellent glue guy on the team and contribute across the stats line for many years.

Never thought Id say this but the Lakers are shaping out to be one of my favourite teams and should stay that way for a while. Lakers fans count your blessings and thank goodness that they didnt try to package all thier picks for a star player instead of going through this rebuild which maybe close to over. They could surprise this year as they did out of the gate last year before getting smacked in the face with reality.
