Game I watched: Duke 74 vs Michigan St 69

I saw good things out of both teams in this game. In regards to Michigan St, it is clear that they can play with anyone down low and on the boards. They out rebounded Duke and UNC in their first two games, both of those teams have solid frontlines. And again, even though Appling and Wood combined for 48 points, they were still out played by Duke’s guards which will continue to be a problem when they face good teams. Also, Branden Dawson showed why he should be considered one of the best freshmen in the country be playing physically and scoring inside.

I have Duke in my Final Four predictions and I’m pretty confident with that choice. They also have solid bigs who are athletic and can rebound. Ryan Kelly showed an ability to stretch the defense with the jump shot, which is essential at the four position. Duke’s guards, though, are the strength of the team. Dawkins and Curry showed in this game that they can flat out stroke it and will provide a scoring lift in the half court. Austin Rivers played poorly in this game, but I have full confidence that he will turn his performance around by the end of the season. Bottom line, Duke is a well rounded team who can score on the inside and kill you with the three ball.
