JoeWolf1I’m gonna be honest and say, I’m not very familiar with him at all, nor have I ever seen him play a whole game, but I notice trends from year to year regarding draft and draft stock and to me…I feel Bismack Biyombo may be experiencing the same kind of stock spike Hassan Whiteside did last year.
It just sounds too familar to me, 7’7” wingspan, raw offensive moves, young, good athlete, next defensive superstar. I could be wrong about this observation, but I just wonder if this is a true projection of his stock or is it a result of a good performance, but will fall after predraft camps, interviews, and the combine.
This draft is much weaker than last, and even with his hype now I don’t think he’ll fall to the 2nd round, but I just have to wonder if he will end up falling to the mid or late 1st round when all is said and done.
What do you guys think about this question? Is Biyombo really going to be a lotto or top 10 pick, or will all this hype die down when people get a closer look at him?

Raef LaFrentzParticipantSome team will overvalue him or become over-enamored with him and take him in the lottery. Just my guess.
I wouldn’t take that risk though.

mamadouParticipantWhen a team selects donnie darko with the 2nd pick of a legendary draft also known as "the bonner class", don’t u think that same team could gamble on the phenom to play along monroe ?.
big ben was an undrafted 3pts 5 rebs 23 YO guy when he was a wizard…then a 4 times DPOY-all star, 5th times all nba undersized C.
Bismack’s the truth, bismack’s a warrior but bismack’s a piston too !!!

OhCanada-ParticipantThats a great point, nobody had Whiteside outside of the 1st round last year. Although he does have that learning disabillity, but to be fair he doesnt seem like a headcase or anything, and I doubt the disabillity translates too much on the court. He gained the wieght he was supposed to and is developing his game.
Maybe thats why Aran is so hesitant in proclaiming Biyambo as a lotto pick.

HitsterParticipantIf there is a likely lockout then I could not see him falling out of the first round as he’d be ideal to stash in Europe for a year. Some sites have him in their top 8 effectively based on one game which seems a bit high, Aran is being a bit conservative probably after overvaluing other guys like Whiteside as mentioned above.
I’d say that Bismack’s draft position is probably nearer to where Aran rates him but it only needs one GM to like him and he could shoot up the boards with a promise.

sheltwon3ParticipantGuys with his size and length from overseas tend to stay in possibly lottery and mid 1st round. Whiteside was a special case because I think a lot of people wished he stayed another year to fill out. Also it was probably stupid Gm’s who gamble on lesser talent and went away from a young big with potential. In two years Whiteside will have people wondering how he felt so low. The same thing happen to DeAnde Jordan. American born Center who are raw sometime fall due to their personalities and the perception of being lazy

Sonny RedParticipantI’ve seen way too many of these "he didn’t start playing basketbal until he 14, but speaks four languages" prospects flop. The highest I would draft him is the mid-late 20’s, preferably the second round. The best thing for his development would be getting drafted by an already solid team that could afford to have him play in the D-League for a while.

mj23mj23besteverParticipantwiht this draft so weak imo he goes top ten with sum team reaching for him based on the potential

Mr. 19134ParticipantI first learned about Biyombo right before 2011. Since then he has commanded top minutes on the top team in his organization and had become a defensive terror in the strongest European league. His god given physique is too hard to ignore. We’re not talking about Whiteside who barely weighed 200 pounds, Biyombo is a solid 240 with not even 5% body fat which is outrageous. Another huge difference is that from every interview that anybody has had with Bismack they have came away extremely impressed by his personality, natural born leadership skills, and intelligence. It is those traits which make him a top ten pick in this draft in my eyes.
The only thing holding him back is going to be the question of how old he really is. I have doubts myself that he is really just 18. If he is really just 18 with that kind of body and intelligence he’s a top 7 pick to me. He is just so rare. The Ibaka comparisons are dead on, only Biyombo is stronger coming into the league with more leadership abilities. Biyombo plays like how Ibaka does now with Perkins, a combination of strength, length, and pure intimidation.0 - Posted on: Fri, 04/15/2011 - 1:20pm #521666
Charlie SheenParticipantI’m praying he gets another 2 inches because if he’s 18 then he has 2 years of growing left and if he gets to 6’11 he’d be a defensive force any team in the league could use. I see him going to New York some way some how

iguapops420ParticipantFor some reson i feel like its believable that he is in fact only 18. The kid is the son of a royal family where he was the oldest of 8 children. That alone would be cause for seeming wise beyond his years. Not to mention he’s more than likely been developed to follow in his father’s footsteps. I personally see no reason he can’t go top 10. Can’t see hi falling past Larry Legend and the Pacers just outside of the lottery. GM’s will fall in love with a kid like Biyambo in a drft this weak.

Da1potParticipantHe could be Ibaka or Ben Wallace just like everyone is hoping, but he could just as easily turn into Saer Sene or Desagana Diop.

i’m jus so offendedParticipantif he’s from a royal family it would also be very easy to doctor his birth certificate. jus sayin but i agree, if he says he’s 18 and can prove, jus role with it, i think it’s kind of rude how people are talking about it

Too coolParticipantKnowing the GSW they will probably select him at pick #11 because of their much needed help down low.

victor_eParticipantis stronger than most flops, produces more than most flops, and is more intelligent, and hard working than most flops…
i wouldn’t bet on him being a flop. If you’re looking for Hakeem Olajuwan or Dirk Nowitski he’ll flop…
If you’re looking for Ben Wallace, Dikembe Mutombo, Serge Ibaka, dunk/defense man… I think the evidence suggests a non-flop.
I hope the Pistons take him at 7

NashyMingParticipantI think the Rockets should serious consider taking him at 14th if Biyombo is still there.
They need a defensive C and he can still grow an inch or two with 7’7 wingspan. He plays with more heart than Hasheem Thabeet. When I looked at Thabeet, he seems to be very out of control and not coordinate. On the other hand Biyombo looks pretty mature in terms of playing defense.
