4hff4f427ParticipantDoesnt the guy have a birth certificate or something?? How long is this mystery gonna keep going on? Sorry but this age questioning is getting a little ridiculous. Just saying..

BloodyCrumpetParticipant"Doesnt the guy have a birth certificate or something??"
Birth certificates can be easily forged.
Biyombo’s agent talked to a "specialist", but that does not necessarily mean anything. There is NO reason to believe that Biyombo is under 18.

TRC1991Participantwow that would be insane if you woke up tomorrow and your mom was sitting there and was like "hey son, sorry but your actually 4 years older than you think you are…"

4hff4f427ParticipantI sure HOPE he’s 18. I’m a Piston fan and I’ve seen his name all over our draft boards for weeks now. Love to see him in Detroit red and blue.

Zeke33Participantmost people from his country have no idea how old they are. Mutumbo was also unsure of his official age

Allen_Iverson_3ParticipantHis full name is so awesome:
Dikembe Mutombo Mpolondo Mukamba Jean-Jacques Wamutombo
Other than that, I admire the player (he formed a great duo with AI) and most of all the man who is very invested in helping his country.

khaled_a_dParticipantNo body can Confirm his age as long as people think it is easy to change your birth certificate in his country
but here is the thing:NO body has any evidence that he isn’t 18,It is all speculations and It is All based on the fact that he is from Congo and he looks older(lots of people looks older than there age btw,ask Lebron and Oden) so until some one bring some serious evidence that he is older,I don’t really bother myself thinking about it so much
also his Spanish Club must have seen those X-Rays,they will be literally stupid if they didn’t0 - Posted on: Tue, 06/21/2011 - 12:49am #548260
johnecoParticipantImagine Oden came over from the Congo at 18, teams would be like that dude’s at least 35 lol
That doesn’t mean Biyombo is really 18. He has a huge vested interest in appearing as young as possible – it’s literally worth millions of dollars to him. And he comes from a country where $10 will buy you any birth certificate you want. So we just don’t know, and it will make a huge difference in his career. So he’s a very risky pick.
BTW, I’m surprised if teams haven’t sent PIs to his village in Africa to investigate. How old are his siblings, who were his classmates in school, etc. If I were running a team, I would; I mean it would cost next to nothing to get a Congo-based investigation agency to figure it all out.

TallmanNYCParticipantWho cares how old he is? If he is 18 they think he has "room to develop" but if his body is developed and it certainly looks to be the case, then I doubt it will change that much. Sure most tall guys aren’t developed at 18 and they are going to put on serious muscle, but some are and he falls into that camp by looks. Lebron had a man’s body at 19 and it wasn’t really going to get any better. Do people think BB is still growing? I haven’t heard anyone say that they think he is going to get taller, which would actually be helpful.
The thing that is kind of scary is that he has been playing high-level ball for at least 4 years and he has no ability to shoot a jump shot from even 5 feet away. Would this guy just grind your offense to a halt because you would be playing 4 on 5 every trip down the court? I’m sure he can’t pass and it doesn’t even look like he finish alley oops all that well because he doesn’t catch the ball well.

PulseGlazerParticipantThe issue is his offensive development. If he’s 18, he can develop quite the offensive game, as he has years of development time ahead. If he’s 22, not so much. There is, according to studies, almost no way he’s older than 20, so he’s still one of the best prospects (if not players, yet) in the draft.

HitsterParticipantThey can apparently do bone tests I think that Biyombo’s agent mentioned to find out how old someone roughly is, this might have been to try and put off the idea that he was actually older than stated and mentioned he might be younger,
Mutombo was often rumoured to be older than he was which if you consider he was nearly 25 when drafted and still an All Star in his mid 30’s might make his achievements even more impressive.
Lots of people around the world don’t have birth certificates especially in 3rd World countries so this occurance can happen quite a lot.

JordanC20ParticipantI say so what let the kid play he is obviously talented enough to be in the NBA.
19 years old age rule is bs any way.
