It’s been awhile since the last time I posted, but a friend and I got in a debate and I wanted to get everyone’s take.

His opinion was that 90% of teams in the league would trade their backcourt for Rose/Bogans, and that if you were to create the best possible backcourt it would have to include Rose since he is the best pg.

IMO the type of pg you ideally want will be decided by what else is on your team. I thought there were several teams OKC, MIA, LAL, and maybe BOS that probably wouldn’t trade their backcourt for CHI’s (not considering contracts). I include Boston only because of how their team is built and the success they currently have. Also teams like GS, NJ, and maaaaybe SAC couldsay their backcourt is actually better than the CHI backcourt, but would still make the trade because Rose’s ability to get an injury plagued Bulls team to the playoffs was AI/LBJesque.

Rose was the best pg in the NBA this season, but if I were to create my ideal backcourt I don’t think it would include Rose. I don’t think Rose makes his teammates better, I know he hit the game winning layup, but other than that he had a horrible last few minutes to that game. He NEVER found Korver, the hot hand, and took some bad shots, and seemed to pass the ball without any real goal. That pass to Deng for the 3? ? He needs to drive and dish, not pass the ball to Deng as a bail out because the clock is winding down. I think he is the type of pg that is much better having a team with several good players, than being part of a Superstar combo, unless the other part of that combo is a powerful post player.

Thoughts? ? Am I wrong about Rose? To me in order to create the ideal backcourt you need to know what else is on your team, but say you had to create a team picking a backcourt first what would your combo be? ?

Rose isn’t Chris Paul, Steve Nash or Rajon Rondo, but  saying he doesn’t make his teammates better is wrong.

I suppose he makes them better in that he draws attention, but I can’t really pick a player on the team I think plays better because of him. I don’t know that he has directly helped improve anyone’s game. If anyone left would you expect their level of play to drop because they’re not playing with him?

I’d go with Rondo and Allen.  Unless you count Kevin Durant as a guard…

Actually playing now in the NBA? Best backcourt in the league right now is Rondo/Allen or Parker/Ginobli. Rose is better than either of those guys, but not enough to carry Bogan. I also like the Curry/Ellis backcourt as being about as good as Rose/Bogan, but again just because you get two stars for one elite star and a below average guy. In the playoffs, and I hate to say this, but maybe Old Man Fisher and Kobe. Fisher just gets it done and even the biggest Rose lover out there can’t think he is that much better than Kobe in crunch time. I don’t think Miami would make that trade, whomever they happen to be starting at PG. After that, because Rose is so young, yeah everyone would trade their backcourt for him.

I know he doesn’t start, but if the Bulls had to choose and could only have one, I’m pretty sure they would take a Korver over Bogan.

They need to make a move to get a better SG if possible.  OJ Mayo or something.

Rose and Allen does it for me; Rose can find the open man, and his aggressive driving would open up Ray, similarly, Ray’s dead-eye shooting prevents people doubling Rose without being burned, so Rose has one less player worried about him. It would work similar to Korver and Rose, except Allen can also take off the dribble and is an underrated defender.
