I just wanted to point this out today, seeing as everyone has been having all this talk about being clutch and not or ability to make last second shots.

So, today, alone look at the following:

James missed multiple 3’s to give the Heat a chance to force a second OT.

Wade missed a regulation game winner, and also a late 3 to have a chance at a second OT

Durant missed a Game winning shot

Kobe has missed 2 game winning shots

Say what you want about certain players abilities to make late shots or game winners, but let’s be honest nobodys perfect at it because nobody can make every shot. I think we shold stop over analyzing every miss and trying to psychoanalyze players.

Even Jerry West missed shots. Even Michael Jordan missed shots. That’s going to happen.

However, there’s a big difference between missing the shot and just disappearing or not playing up to your capabilities.

The problem with LeBron is that most people feel he hasn’t played up to his capabilities during late game situations on a consistent basis.

Pretty interesting that James ranks in the top 15 and ahead of Kobe Bryant. Also crazy that the rook Kyrie Irving is in at number 3.

OKC has two in the top 6 as well.

with (over) analysing one game. I’d put the chance of any star* player hitting any game winning shot at about 47%. Super star* players at about 49%. Anyone above those averages is clutch. Any one below is bound to fall into a lower category.

MJ is seen as clutch because he had that shot to win the NCAA championship, the shot over Ehlo, and the shot over
Bryon Russell to win his final NBA ring. He had signature clutch shots as well as numerous other clutch shots in other games.

LeBron had that game winning shot in the playoffs against the Magic a few years ago and he went full-on beast mode against the Pistons
a couple of years before that. Those are two great clutch moments for his resume but he is a little light on game winning buzzer beaters.
However, it is not his fault that he is so dominate a player that he puts most other teams away LONG before any two minute warning.

If he gets a ring this year then a lot of this will be forgotten. Magic was known as an all-time winner with a college title and 5 NBA rings. But aside from Game 6 against Philly” his rookie year and the Baby Hook against the Celtics most fans couldn’t tell you of another “signature” clutch moment. Magic had a superb performance in the 1992 All Star Game but LeBron had a great one this year.

Larry Bird is known as one of the all-time greats but I can’t think of any “signature” buzzer beaters that he hit. He hit plenty of game winners, but he missed a potential game winner following Magic’s infamous Baby Hook. He went to the 1979 NCAA title game but he lost to Magic’s MSU team and had an off game. He was on the 1992 Dream Team but was more of a fringe player for many of the games. He’s known as a big winner but LeBron can still reach Larry’s 3 titles. Bird was also on the wrong end of MJ’s 63 point explosion in the playoffs one year. Bird’s most famous scoring out burst may be his duel against Dominique Wilkins in the late 80’s. But, again LBJ basically beat an entire Pistons team in the playoffs one year.

LBJ may not be known for game-winners but he should be known for winning games. His teams have regularly blown out other teams, put up great season win totals, and he has made several deep post-season runs.
