Who do you see competing this year? As the season progressed I was quite pessimistic about the quality of this years’ Rookie class but the past weeks has shown some pleasant surprises. As far as the sophomores go, their performance has been a mixed bag so far with some players showing nice efficiency in limited minutes (e.g. Gobert), while others provide less efficient numbers in more minutes (e.g. Carter-Williams). Having said that, my ‘prediction’ for Rookies and Sophomores that will participate this year is as follows:

    Rookies
    Andrew Wiggins – SG/SF – Timberwolves
    Nikola Mirotic – PF/C – Bulls
Elfrid Payton – PG – Magic
    Nerlens Noel – C/PF – 76ers
    KJ McDaniels – SG/SF – 76ers
Marcus Smart – PG – Celtics
    Jusuf Nurkic – C – Nuggets
    Tarik Black – C/PF – Lakers
    Zach LaVine – SG/PG – Timberwolves
Bojan Bogdanovic – SF – Nets
    Honorable Mention: Napier, Papanikolaou
LaVine just makes it over Napier, which is also nice for the crowd, while Bogdanovic holds off Papanikolaou, who receives to few minutes to warrant a spot.

    Sophomores
    Michael Carter-Williams – PG – 76ers
    Victor Oladipo – SG/PG – Magic
Ben McLemore – SG – Kings
    Kelly Olynyk – PF/C – Celtics
    Gorgiu Dieng – C – Timberwolves
Giannis Antetokounmpo – PF – Bucks
Mason Plumlee – PF – Nets
Solomon Hill – SF – Pacers
Shabazz Muhammad – SF – Timberwolves
Tim Hardaway Jr. – SG – Knicks
Honorable Mention: Gobert, Adams, Len, Caldwell-Pope, Schroder,
Although I believe Caldwell-Pope has a better season than Hardaway Jr. the latter still makes it with All Star weekend being at MSG. As far as the three HMs go, they haven’t played enough minutes to make the team in my opinion.

I think that I would rather see Gobert or Schroder in there above Solomon Hill, but I have watched very little Pacers ball so far.

I agree that Gobert should get in, but I definitely think Hill deserves a spot. I’d keep Hill and replace Hardaway Jr with Gobert.

if the tnt guys are selecting the players again ,hardaway jr. will get in based on name recognition..

last year some my buddies said they couldnt believe guys that had played the game… and gets paid to talk about it on tv….act like they had never seen or heard of  90 % of the rookies or sophomores…

Dennis and Gobert will be in, Dennis is on a number one team playing the meaningful min each game.

     Last year’s class looks "underrated".

Too soon to tell about this year’s class but Wiggins should be a super star.  Looking at the freshman team other than Wiggins it actually looks below average.  Wiggins might be the only all-star in the class with Jabari being another option.

Wiggins is closer to being an all-star as the second best rookie in the class is to being ROY.

As far as the sophs go, that is a REALLY solid team.  Sneaky depth in that class too.

Tough for the freshman group to look very good when three of their top prospects in Parker, Embiid and Randle all suffered injuries. Give the freshman group time and that class could come along just fine

If you look at the lottery, 6 of them really haven’t seen any playing time yet (Embiid, Gordon, Randle, Vonleh, Saric, Warren). Jabari showed he will be a very solid player, but now is injured. That basically means that right now we don’t see exactly 50% of the lottery.

As for the rest of the first round, there’s Adreian Payne, James Young, Tyler Ennis, Gary Harris, Bruno Caboclo, Mitch McGary, Jordan Adams, Rodney Hood, Clint Capela and Bogdan Bogdanovic, CJ Wilcox and Josh Huestis who all have received basically 0 playing time this year on account of playng in Europe, being stuck behind a number of very good players or just not being ready to contribute to a playoff team.

In total that’s 19 of 30 first round picks that we haven’t seen at all yet. I’m pretty sure the draft class will look better once we have.

I hope Schroder doesn’t get snubbed. He deserves every right to be selected off the strength of pulling his share weight on that #1 seed Hawks team.
