valentineHearing a lot of chatter he is announcing tomorrow. Hearing UK or NCSU. I get all sorts of weird info on his recruitment. Was an NCSU lock, then heard Auburn was gaining traction, now hearing UK may be the leader. I don’t know what to think anymore. I will always tell you all what I hear. If I am wrong don’t shoot the messenger. Hearing a lot more UK chatter than before.

TarHeelRavenParticipantI must have missed something on State. Dennis Smith Jr commited and now Bam Bam might go there. I do not hate State, but have they secretly been an elite school the past couple decades churning out NBA talent and winning conference titles and national championships like Duke, Kansas and Kentucky and I missed it?What is Mark Gottfried doing there to convince top talent to sign there? State got absolutely trounced by William and Mary and it wasn’t even close. Ncballer, give me some background on the new recruiting juggernaut in Raleigh because I am very confused.

ncballerAdidas brother. Some of these kids circles get in deep with Adidas people that unofficially promise them endorsements etc for when they get drafted. Gottfried is knee deep in it. From the stuff I have heard, it will be an eye raiser if he goes to UK considering they are a Nike school. I will leave it at that. His recruitment is very dirty.

OhCanada-ParticipantGood question and awnser. That’s the stuff I like to see on this site. I’m gonna go ahead and do background research on that but I knew Kentucky was a Nike school. The whole system is flawed.

TarHeelRavenParticipantAbsolutely mind-boggling that a player would pick a school for what athletic apparel they wear over fit of the school, coaching, being able do develop as a player and play for championships. Unbelievable.

ZachAttackParticipantIt’s business bro. If they go to a Nike school, they’ll get more attention than a… Under Armour school. Heck, even an Adidas school. It’s all about the publicity for them. And so it makes sense to go to a Nike school. They’re draft stock will skyrocket.

ncballerIt’s not necesarily what they wear. It’s what the player and his inner circle can get from the companies people that run the endorsements. These guys deep and high up in Adidas essentially buddy up with the kid’s inner circle (AAU team) and a collegiate coach that uses their gear. The coach and the endorsement team simply negotiate off record what they need to do to steer the kid to the school to ensure that he signs with Adidas when he enters the draft and the kid takes his services to that respective school. They do it very discretely, very little documentation. Recruiting can get very dirty with top flight recruits.

wonzi_bellsParticipantTo an extent. NC State may not be a blue-blood but it’s not some scrub school neither. The "shoe factor" is more of a tie-breaker than the overall deciding factor.
And specifically for NC State, there are lots of other determining factors for Adebayo than just the athletic apparel deal. I mean, Dennis Smith is like one of his best friends and he’s going there. They have the in-state factor and to go off that, as long as UNC has the potential NCAA violations hanging over them, they’ll lose some top recruits and Duke has two bigs in Giles and maybe Jeter, who’ll probably get showcased over him, though Jeter looks like one of those guys who’ll grow as a player throughout the next four years. As for State, BeeJay Anya, Lennard Freeman and Abdul-Malik Abu wouldn’t really scare me if I’m Adebayo for playing time.
Plus, these guys develop relationships with people within these athletic apparels. These are the guys who give them free shoes, free trips to top events where they can improve their game and showcase their skills, they get to meet their idols and NBA players through these camps and events. Yeah, there are shady things shoe companies do but they do have their benefits.

Taylor Gang MikeParticipantHe is going to NC State with Smith.. I believe its been like that for a while, He just wanted to see who else would court him. Nc State will be ok.. The Martin twins have to get it going and they have to play the freshman Kirk more, he is very talented. Cat has to step up, and I like Abu. They are a good team

akhan786ParticipantNcballer is right. It was State for the longest, but all of a sudden something changed recently…and quickly.
All the chatter a couple days ago started saying UK, and then within a day he sets his announcement.

SkipA donation of 200 pairs of shoes, 200 t shirts, 100 balls, 400 singlets and 200 shorts is worth $100,000 Where I’m from..
Only costs Adidas $47.42 to make though.

Bill Walton’s KneesParticipantAfter reading this post I went on 247’s Crystal Ball. As of Sunday, it read 100% NC State. Now it reads 58% UK, 42% NC State, with all UK predictions coming within the last day. Very interesting. I wonder what this means for Jarret Allen, another 5 star PF who’s reportedly (according to CB) leaning towards UK.
