Cardinal_FanParticipantJust noticed Austin Rivers name is missing from the latest 2012 mock. I personally am pro Brad Beal and think he will be the better NBA player, but I do believe Rivers is a good enough talent to be a 1st round pick in 2012. Do any of you guys believe he will stay 2 years at Duke??? Imo he wont, i believe he’s been itching to get to the NBA since he was a sophmore. Ive never thought of him as a winner meaning he would always be a numbers guy thats y my comparison 4 him is Monta Ellis. I think he will score big but never contend 4 championships. Im not a hater its just what i get from seeing him on & off the court in interviews or during games. He seems like an overly cocky kid. Hopefully he proves me wrong becuase he is very talented. What r your opinions??? I would love to get your feedback.

Andrew1984ParticipantI’m a huge, huge, huge fan of Austin Rivers. I’m a Clevelander, and he is exactly what the Cavaliers need to put alongside an unselfish PG in Kyrie Irving who can distribute, score, and make high-IQ decisions and a super athletic, high-energy, long-armed, hard-working guy like Tristan Thompson. The Cavs desperately need talent on the wing and scoring, scoring, scoring.
I’m thinking the Cavs will again perform poorly this year with the two rooks taking their lumps. If they finish with the 6th or 7th worst record, I would like to have Ausin Rivers with a pick in that neighborhood. They won’t need a PG, so Marquis Teague, Josiah Turner, and Kabongo won’t be considered. I’d assume Drummond, Davis, McaDoo, Barnes would be gone.
I think Rivers will be one-and-done for sure. He’ll show how smooth his handle is, how he can score in bunches at will, get to the free throw line, attack the basket agressively, and stay balanced and under control. He’ll improve his shot selection and he’ll learn from Coach K. how to be a better teammate.

rileymcshea3ParticipantI think he is a one and done and IMO he will be a great NBA player and better then Brad Beal.
My best comparison is more of a Eric Gordon with Allen Iverson moves and is Kobe Bryant mentality because of work ethic and I think he will be a determined winner but of course he is more cocky then he is .

akhan786ParticipantHe appears at number 5 on the 2013 Mock Draft…I don’t necessarily agree with this because I think he could at least get drafted number 14 next year.
Kendall Marshall is projected 14 right now and I’d much rather have Austin Rivers…
I think Kendall Marshall went from one of the most underrated players in college basketball…and is now turning into one of the most overrated players in college basketball. JMO though.

theTKOshowParticipantI think that alot of the negatives people talk about with him such as a just being an iso scorer will change with a full season duke. Coach k will have him learning to move without the ball and wont allow him to be a black hole with the ball. I dont think you can judge a guy based on what he did purely in high school either. if he was able to score at will, then why pass? it got him ranked a top player in his class plus his team had tons of success. duke’s got another solid team this year so it’ll help him cuz he’ll constantly be in the spotlight. the only reason I see him staying another year is if he gets injured while all the other freshman dominate.

Cardinal_FanParticipantI don’t know bout Eric Gordon, Gordon is more of a powerful strong guard who has the body 2 finish in the inside. Rivers is a good athlete but his is a lil more finesse. I dont think he will be able to finsh like Gordon does around the rim. I still say his perfect comparison is Monta Ellis. Allen Iverson’s handle is a lil much 2, his handle is really slick but Iverson was one of the great ballhandlers of all time and Kobe Bryant’s work ethic is legendary, i think we should wait an see a lil b4 we start rattling off such great nba players names who already have a body of work in place.

Andrew1984ParticipantHe actually reminds me a lot of Nick Young, but with the potential to be a much more complete player.

surveParticipantdoes he have 1-n-done talent? yes.
is he a 2012 1st round pick? absolutely has to be.
will he leave after his freshman season….I am not as sure about him as I was with Irving. this will be a deep draft and I think there is a possibility he stays. it depends on his season. I think he will come down to how good his teammates will look playing along side him. scouts know he can score, but what type of leader will he be? his heart and intangibles. is he cocky or confident? will he step up on defensive challenges when facing other great offensive players?

SmooveKRYPTParticipantHe wants to prove to teams & scouts you can be a winner with him as a 1st option(which is why I think he chose Duke over other programs that were stacked with one & done talent.) The only way I see him coming back is if Duke has a bad regular season or gets knocked out prior to the sweet 16 in the tourney.

Im Your FatherParticipantI think he will probably end up leaving after this year. But I have heard that his father wants him to stay 2 years, so that may be a factor.
