Ariza finally going to the Wizards

The Phoenix Suns and Washington Wizards came to an agreement to send Trevor Ariza to the Wizards for Austin Rivers and Kelly Oubre.

I'm surprised they'd deal Oubre like this as he's been a good player for them, he's significantly younger than Ariza, and he's locked up on a longer term contract. The only thing I can imagine is that the Wizards are trying to clear some cap so they have a little wiggle room in the upcoming years. Ariza could walk at the end of the year though. A lot of teams have been doing riskier deals like this so why not the Wizards too.

Contracts

Oubre is not locked in long term. He's a free agent at the end of the season like the other players in this deal.

flip Oubre

With Jackson, Bridges, and Warren already on the wing, I think the Suns are going to look to flip Oubre for an additional asset like a future late 1st.

Can you trade someone ouve

Can you trade someone ouve just traded for?

I figure that Josh Jackson will look to be moved out, probably for a PG.

Oubre can be flipped right

Oubre can be flipped right away as long as he is the only outgoing player from the Suns in the deal.

As a Suns fan, I never

As a Suns fan, I never understood us splashing the money on Ariza when we had got a lot of depth at SF and we needed a PG. Surely putting an offer to a veteran PG would have made more sense.

Phoenix are now in full on tank mode again and will likely look to give the younger guys as much court time as they can given they have moved both Tyson Chandler and Ariza now. I wonder if Jamal Crawford will be brought out in due course given at pushing 39 he'd not seem a logical guy to be on a high lottery team and might get an offer from a contender come play off time.

Hopefully Austin Rivers can fill the PG gap for this season. Although with that wonderful word hindsight I wonder if Phoenix regrets taking Jackson over Fox in last year's draft.

If they hold onto Oubre,

If they hold onto Oubre, that’s a great move. Now, how do they get Fultz. I don’t care about the Suns, but I’d like Fultz to get a chance.

Given the fact that TJ Warren

Given the fact that TJ Warren has turned into a nice stretch-4 (44% from 3), how about a Warren for Fultz swap?

Suns get an actual PG who is Young & there will be no large expectation on him which I thjnk will help him hugely. Suns would still need to find a new starting PF, but it'll give them a clear direction come draft time. Also they can go a little small-ball with Oubreon the roster.

76ers got better trading for Butler, but lost a lot of floor spacing giving up Saric & Covington, Warren could be a very nice fit within this Sixes unit.

Philly has said no to a few offers apparently, so if they still have a decent value on Fultz maybe Suns add Daniels & a 2nd rounder as well.

C. Ayton PF. Anderson SF. Bridges SG. Booker PG. Fultz - Oubre, Melton, Holmes, Crawford

C. Embiid PF. Warren SF. Butler SG. Redick PG. Simmons - McConnell, Chandler, Shamet, Muscala, Korkmaz

Oubre is nowhere near as good

Oubre is nowhere near as good as Ayton....

Not better than TJ Warren either. Come on bruh. He’s probably not that much better than Bridges or Josh Jackson.

Oubre cant shoot, barely plays defense, and gets pushed around. OhCanada, do you watch the games? Hinest question.

Oubre is what is he is.

Oubre is what is he is. Athletic and long with active hands and when he gets hot from there he can hit a few in a row. The negatives are that offensively his skills and basketball IQ are below average. He can't dribble or create his own shot so often will pick up his dribble above the key. His offensive game inside the 3 is non existent again because he cant create, and his 3 point shooting is extremely streaky.

Defensively very active hands(although is known to pick up 3 quick fouls reaching) but he's stuck guarding 2 positions. Lacks lateral quickness to guard 1's and physically too weak to play small ball and guard 4s. One thing you will notice is he's always being pushed out of the way by the majority of SF's.

If you want a comparison I dont believe he's as good as Kent Bazemore who himself is over paid. Kelly essentially is the Josh Smith of 2/3's. The question is are you willing to pay him the 10-15 mil/year he will likely command. The Wizards decided no, the Suns have half a season to determine if he was just a few month rental.
