BasterdInABasketParticipantJimmer Ferdette
Jacob Pullen
Harrison Barnes
Kyle Singler
Jajuan Johnson
Looks like a solid list. I think the returning talent is sort of thin this year and this team is pretty weak compared to years past but its only preseason. At least Barnes wasnt forgotten since he’ll be on here at the end of the year.

boxn1ParticipantIs it fair to put a incoming freshman that hasnt played a game in college on the preseaon list???? I thought the list was to honor the best returning players in the preseason list.

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantI think Barnes shouldn’t be on this list.

sayounhParticipantI like it.
Barnes is being deemed the savior of the UNC basketball program so I can’t really dispute his placement on the list. Fredette and Pullen belong to teams that have their offense revolve aroudn them and they consistently put up strongs numbers every season, and Singler is the leader of the nation’s best team. I may be biased but I think JaJuan Johnson is also deserving of his spot. He played with the Team USA select team and has supposedly done a lot of work over the summer. With Hummel out, his scoring and rebounding numbers are bound to go up. I think it’s a matter of how well Purdue fares in the Big Ten that determines whether he remains an All-American by season’s end.

sayounhParticipantIt should also be mentioned the reason why Harrison Barnes is the only surefire lottery pick is because everybody else is a Senior. With GMs going for young, athletic, high potential prospects nowadays, it’s not really a testament to how good these players are in the college level.

mxhart532ParticipantI think with Barnes being put on the preseason AA list this just proves how weak NCAA basketball has become. I remember reading the Texas media guide when Durant, a better player coming out of high school I might add, was an incoming freshman and they didnt even hype him like this. Yet such a weak cast of returning stars, it just opens opprotunities for new stars to emerge. This should be an exciting year!!

mikeyvthedonParticipantWho would you put on the list instead of Barnes? Do you really think that or just do not like him as a UNC guy? I think it is a pretty accurate list, I could maybe even see Nolan Smith being on instead of JaJuan Johnson though, though I am guessing they chose Johnson as a Center, so it makes sense. Still, the All-American team is usually by who had the best season rather than by position, and I could see Jared Sullinger having a better season than Johnson, even Kanter if he gets the chance to play. Also, to the person that said their were no surefire first round picks on it besides Barnes, I think Singler is the next closest thing to being a sure fire first round pick. That guy is not slipping past round 1. The others all have a shot at being first rounders also, though I am guessing Pullen and Freddette might slip to the second. Johnson with a much improved season could easily become a first round options given his length. But I definitely like Barnes as an All-American choice. That guy should step in and become the guy at UNC from day one. I am honestly slightly surprised John Wall or someone else had never been selected to a pre-season AP All-American 1st Team list, but I am guessing they were tired of getting it wrong. It of course does not mean that he will be a post-season All-American either, as last years pre-season picks were an 0fer for the AP, but I like his odds. He has a great all-around game, and with all that he will likely do for UNC, he might be my favorite for NPOY. His team is not as talented as some others, but he will be the most talented on the team by leaps and bounds, which could indeed make his chances at NPOY maybe even more favorable than Kyle Singler, who will have to share the load with some talented team mates who more than likely could make a 2nd or 3rd team as well (I think UNC maybe has a candidate in John Henson, or maybe Tyler Zeller, but I like Nolan Smith, Kyrie Irving and possibly even Mason Plumlee’s odds much more). But, while Harrison Barnes might not be the "Best Freshman Ever", as ESPN is putting it due to his selection to this team (it was more a criticism of the choice as well, due to the fact that no other freshman had ever been selected), he should be damn awesome. So no, he may not be Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Durant and maybe not John Wall, but his season will still put him well in contention to be a first team All-American choice. After not getting a single player on last years All-American team, and two freshman being selected to the actual team, putting your money on Barnes is not at all a bad gamble. He should be the first of many to be selected pre-season, but I also think he might have one of the better freshman years we have seen maybe since a Kevin Durant or Michael Beasley/Kevin Love. He is a very special player.

Im Your FatherParticipant@Mikeyvthedon
You clearly really like Mason Plumlee as a prospect, and I’m curious as to what makes you think he will develop into a star. I really hope he does, but I don’t really see all that much potential with him.
What is it that makes you think he’s such a good prospect? In my mind he’s really just a less developed version of McRoberts, without the bad attitude. I would be incredibly pleased if we can get 10 and 6 out of him this year.

JNixonParticipantI don’t have a problem with that list really. I do have a difference in opinion on some things.
I do have doubts that Pullen will be a 1st Team AA though, and that’s from a huge Pullen fan. He will probably be 2nd Team though. I look for Kalin Lucas or Demetri McCamey to be 1st team.
Also, JaJuan Johnson probably won’t have as big a season as Derrick Williams at Arizona or Marcus Morris at Kansas. I look for one of them to be 1st Team over Johnson.

I don’t know who’d I put. But Barnes is a freshman to me we don’t know how good he is against NCAA players yet.

JNixonParticipant"so Derrick Williams born in only 1991 6’9 around 240 huge vertical and All-American candidate..how in the world he is only late 1st rounder?"
He put up monster numbers as a Fr. last year, and he looks like he will at least match those numbers (although maybe with slightly less gaudy efficiency numbers) and Arizona probably will be a tourny team next year.
Also, his NBA projection 7 months before the draft are irrelevant. If you judge his All-America projections based on were he’s ranked in early mocks, you obviously haven’t looked at the AP list this year, and you aren’t thinking about how All-America teams are made most years.
