I was watching the Dream Team documentary that another user was kind enough to post, but I just didn’t get a proper John Stockton fix during that time, so I looked this one up and thought I’d share. The league will never see another player like Stockton, and his career assist and steals will hold that record for as long as this league is in exsistence.

Anybody else miss this guy as much as me?

There’ll never be another player like him. Tough as nails, and otherworldly vision/anticipation. Was my favorite player growing up.

     My favorite all-time PG.

There was nothing like the John Stockton of the 1980s.

He was Ricky Green’s backup and that’s what everybody thought he was — a backup PG.

Then he replaced Green in the starting lineup and surprised the basketball world, playing as if he were the greatest PG to ever play the game.  The Jazz met the Lakers in the playoffs that year and it was Stockton’s coming out party. The Lakers were absolutely beside themselves.  They’d never seen anything like the guy.

Another year under Casey’s system should help reduce Toronto’s tendency to give away points at the foul line, but a bigger impact will come from having Bargnani in the lineup for a full season and the addition of Lowry. Bargnani averaged 5.6 free throw attempts per game last year and could have made up half the discrepancy in attempts on his own if he had played the full season, plus Lowry averaged 2.9 more attempts per game than Calderon. Next season, the huge gap in free throw attempts between the Raptors and their opponents should be reduced.

Although the Raptors were taking more shots than their opponents, they were giving up 2.3 more three-point attempts than they were taking and it wasn’t because of Casey’s offensive schemes. Three-point threats Bargnani and Bayless each missed half the season, Kleiza missed a quarter of the season, and Calderon has always been a reluctant shooter, but Casey still made it clear he wanted to add more willing and able shooters this summer.

Much of the Raptors own turnover problems could be blamed on injures to the backup point guards and learning a new offensive system on the fly. This year, with two starting caliber point guards, a proven backup point guard and a full training camp and preseason to implement an offense, the Raptors turnover issues should be greatly reduced.

If the Bobcats aren’t the team in the league basement this year, however, who is? Most of last year’s other ho-hum rosters improved this offseason, with Washington adding more veterans, New Jersey adding like a billion dollars’ worth of starting lineup to their payroll, New Orleans adding a Unibrow, and Sacramento bringing in a real point guard and a very talented rookie power forward.

Whether they want them or not, however, they’re coming. This is a starting lineup likely to feature Jameer Nelson, Arron Afflalo, Hedo Turkoglu, Glen Davis, and Gustavo Ayon, with the top bench players being JJ Redick, Quentin Richardson, and Al Harrington. There are some vets on this team that have played in the postseason before, but without Dwight Howard and Ryan Anderson—easily the team’s two best players last year—they look headed for the lottery.

Miller at one time held the record for career three-pointers made with 2,560 (Ray Allen has since broken that record), and is considered one of the best shooting guards in the history of the game. Nelson won 1,335 games as a coach—more than any other coach, ever—and is considered one of the most innovative head coaches ever to grace a sideline.

The Oklahoma City Thunder have done such a magnificent job of building a top-flight team since moving from Seattle that criticizing them has almost become forbidden. Their growth over the last three years from a lottery team to one that has gone a combined 152-78 and advanced to the 2012 NBA Finals has formed a blueprint that many teams across the league are following.

As the February trade deadline approaches, the Thunder have to seriously evaluate themselves and whether or not they can win the championship. They’re going to be one of the league’s best, but if they want to be the best, some roster shake ups may be in order.

“I thought I got better with the media as the year went along,” Brown said. “Initially, that was a shock to me, in terms of understanding why and how everything can be such a big deal here. In Cleveland, I experienced it a little bet because LeBron [James] is a guy that drew the media’s attention on a national level, but really the media was only concerned about him and him only, and only sometimes if we won or lost.

The Boise State Broncos finished in last place in the Mountain West Conference last year, but they’re looking to change that this year and spearheading that effort will be big man Ryan Watkins. Watkins is going to be a leader of this year’s team, and the potential draft prospect tells HOOPSWORLD what to expect from him next year in this exclusive interview.

Fans and media have offered explanations: the looming luxury tax situation, Lin’s chemistry with Carmelo Anthony, Lin’s refusal to sign with Creative Artists Agency, Dolan’s objection to the way the process was handled by Lin’s representatives.

“Being a veteran player, and having accumulated experience from playing significant roles for six different playoffs teams, I know how to bring value to an NBA team both on the court and in the locker room,” Evans said. “Although, because of my maturity and growth as a man through overcoming trials in life and throughout my career, I believe my value within the locker room, community and organization far outweigh my playing abilities. I believe a premium should be placed on leadership, especially in today’s game. It is impossible to have sustainable success without leadership on or off the court.”bdsg

“I was never formally offered a job in management with the Wizards,” Evans said. “I expressed interest in wanting to help the organization continue to grow, but I wanted to do that as a player. At that time, Ernie made a decision to go younger. I understand this is a business. I respect him as a GM and wish him and the entire organization nothing but the best.”bsfgs

“Mr. Hunter has been a tremendous help to me personally as a mentor while being on the executive committee,” Evans said. “More importantly our players should be thankful for him and our union for the job they have done throughout his tenure, especially with limited resources as it compared to the NBA.”gsfdsa

Houston Rockets big man Greg Smith is facing the same sort of challenges that Gerald Green faced earlier in his career, but he’s not quite as far along in getting himself a guaranteed contract. In fact, Smith was invited to Rockets camp last year as well, but was cut three days before Christmas and the start of the 2011-12 lockout-shortened season.jtruyt
