Just reading between the lines of GM McDonough of the Phoenix Suns.  After the JJJ workout the statement was he was no slouch and could be deserving along with atleast 4 other players as the top pick.  Clarifying statements later that potential tradedowns would need to be overwhelmed including a top tier player.  Then later stating the the trade would be a challenge due to very select few players who would meet the criteria.  The important note taken from this is that atleast 5 if not 7 top players have the top of the draft potential.  Being there isnt a NO DOUBT player chosen like a Shaq, LBJ, or a Timmy D in this draft a trade is definitely in play ala Celtics of last year.  Could be many more potential trade partners.  Excluding Kings due to proximity to 1st pick, heres the rundown for the Suns to trade pick #1

Hawks trade #3 and Schroder to Suns FOR Knight and  #1 .  Suns draft Young or BPA big man

Grizzlies trade #4 and Parsons plus future top 3 protected pick (2020 or later due to pick owed) or #4 and Conley FOR Dudley, JJ, and Knight and #1  Suns pick Bamba, JJJ or Bagley

Dallas trade #5 and Harrison Barnes for Knight, Dudley and #1 pick.  Suns pick Doncic, Bamba or Porter

Magic trade #6, Nicola Vucevic/Biyombo, and a top 5 protected 1st FOR Knight and #1 OR trade #6 and sign and trade Aaron Gordon (25mil per) FOR JJ, Knight, and #1.  (ideal for arizona product Gordon to return but unlikely)  Suns pick BPA of Porter, Young, Doncic or a fallen big man

Bulls trade #7, Lopez, Dunn and Portis FOR Knight, Chriss and #1 (Bulls might have to sweeten the deal with another future pick)  Suns pick Porter or BPA

Cavs trade #8, Love, and Zizic FOR Knight, Dudley, and #1  Suns pick Sexton or BPA.

Knicks trade Porzingis, Noah, either Mudiay/Nkitilina FOR Chriss, Knight, Dudley and #1.  Not sure if Porzingis and #9 = Chriss and #1

Exclude 76ers and #10.  No need to trade up

Hornets trade #11 and Kemba Walker for Knight and #1.  Suns pick Sexton or R.Williams

Trading the #1 pick might be the best option considering a new coach and the need for experience.  The sweet spot in return would be a Front court back court paring with one being the star vet/rookie or rookie/star vet plus future pick.  Best results for Suns would be getting a star point guard but thats not really there in this draft or for trade.  Need immediate results this year for the Suns to keep Devin Booker from free agency in the coming years.

Any other trade downs to consider?

The Suns will not trade the pick. Theyve never had a first overall and so theyll use it even though there appears to be genuine talent available anywhere in the top 7 or 8. Theyll get their big guy and i would not be surprised to see them try get another pick to get Trae Young too (I dont think they will though). I think theres a chance they get a quality PG at 16. I have Sexton sliding there.

Dude, think you’re seriously undervaluing #1 and the benefits of getting a top tier guy. Scanning through myself, the only trades I could bring myself to consider if I was the Suns would have absolutely ZERO chance of happening:

    Dennis Smith Jr + #5; Aaron Gordon + Jonathan Isaac #6; Porzingis + #9; Fultz + Saric + #10 (maybe)

Before the barrage of negs, none of these have any chance of happening because they’re way more than the Mavs, Magic, Knicks or Sixers would give up. But the point I’m making is that I’m not giving up 4 years of a top tier guy for a low salary for much. In fact, if I’m the Suns, the only possible deal I’d consider (and it’s more because the front office are more likely to do something stupid) is to give the Kings a call and see if I can get something like #2 and a future unprotected first. Screw it, ask for Hield for good measure. It’s the Kings.

I actually like that phonex trade for both squads. The cavs rebuild with the 1 pick and being awful next year. The Sun love is instantly there best big man and a good mentor. They also get that 8 pick and MP could slide or Trae young both I think fit perfect in phx.  a line up of Booker Jackson mp warren and Love would be switchable at all 5 spots. On offense they could have Love run the offense similar to the Celtics with Al Horford.

Does that team even get the 8th seed in the West?

I’m not sure it does next year but they have had star players consider them in the past. I think Booker and Love are more attractive to a big name player then ayton and Booker. Ayton is going to take a few more years to develope.
