BogDon_KryptParticipantWin Floor. It’s simple, if you don’t reach a certain amount of wins, you can’t participate in the first round of the draft. Make the floor 8 games, that way you at least average almost 1 win every 10 games. Anything less than that isn’t deserving of being called an NBA team. I think the sixers might not make this floor this year. This would at least force them to sign like 3 or 4 more real nba players, as their current team has about 4 of them. Come on – the sixers could have used Panda Friend, Beasley, or Agent 0. They’d be better than they are now. Make them sign somebody competent.

benny15Participantyou could have made a better argument by naming solid veterans that could help the lockeroom instead of players who coaches might not want to influence their young guys.

Magic JordanParticipantEverybody is so quick to say a college team could never beat an NBA team, and 99% of the time you are right. However I absolutely believe Kentucky could beat the 76ers this year. Like above poster said, they have about 4 NBA guys and none of them are hands down clearly better than some of the Kentucky players.
Top to bottom Kentucky is the more talented team.

King CaluchaParticipantEvery year there are several teams tanking… and just because the 76ers really suck this year, everybody is complaining. Let them do as they plan and if the rebuild doesn’t work, it’ll hurt them financially next season.

ItsVictorOladipoParticipantEven if you were to implement that plan I think 8 wins in a 82 game season is way too low.
The worst winning percentage in NBA history was Philly in 1973 and they still went 9-73. Even teams that deliberately tank don’t do that poorly. IMO it would need to be at around 16 wins a season to be an effective deterrent for teams.

thricethefunParticipantI think 16 is too high. What if a team is cursed by injuries that season with bad players to begin with. The floor should be 12 wins imo.

ItsVictorOladipoParticipantOnly three teams have ever won less than 12 games in an 82 game season (’73 76ers, ’93 Mavs, ’98 Nuggets), although the Bobcats a few years ago may have made it four if that had been a full season.
Even with injuries even the worst of NBA teams should be able to win 12 games, if not they deserve to be penalized for putting out a poor product for fans.

Andrew1984ParticipantLet’s say one or two teams fail to make the floor. Who gets their vacated draft picks?
Or would the draft be 58 picks instead of 60?

capecodderParticipant1…..set a minimum (say 16 for example)
2….penalize ping pong balls for every win short of minimum

benny15Participanti think this is the best idea ive heared regarding a tanking rule. the dynamics could easily be tweaked such as how many ping pong balls will be lost per game below the league minimum or if its the over-all percentage that will go down, i like it.

We get it, you hate the idea of a team “Tanking” for talent, okay…
I don’t understand why everybody seems to have a fetish for the idea the 76ers are doing anything at of the ordinary
This is the way the NBA has been for decades, nothing is new about the rebuilding process or “Tanking” as its called nowadays, but now its cool to blast 1 Team for playing the Game the Owners and Players Union created…
It’s absolutely fine if you are concerned about the long term effect this could have on the League, but if you’re just mad at Philadelphia for setting themselves up nicely with all these high picks and Maximum Cap Space, you’re just a hater…
Would the Lakers trade away Kobe for a #1 pick if they could get away with it, several teams would hit the reset button if they could afford to take the losses…Philadelphia and their GM/Ownership Group are playing a ballsy game of roulette if you ask me, Imagine if they had the good sense to do this a few seasons prior and landed an Anthony Davis…Let them play their game and if they fail you can have a good laugh and pat yourself on the back…If they draft Mudiay/Townes/Okafor they have a good young core going forward…
MCW is a good young PG, Wroten looks like a good 6th man already, if either guy finds a way to settle down and hit a consistent 3 point shot, they could be explosive
Noel and Joel are going to block 5 blocks combined once they get on the floor together, I’m pretty excited about this pairing after being a skeptic, Saric could play some Sf and Pf once he gets over and will be a welcome bit of finesse and skill, I’d love to add Karl Towns to this group and let the big guys run…
I’d add Karl Anthony Towns(Top 3 pick) and Dario Saric(early buyout) to a frontline of Noel and Embiid…And I’m convinced we can get a SG in Free Agency(Gerald Green for instance)…Not a bad start…
MCW-G.Green-Saric-Noel-Embiid-Wroten-McDaniels-Townes…

TallmanNYCParticipantHow about this rule, if you are the worst team in the league and have below 15 wins you forfeit your right to luxury tax distributions and to some portion of the league licensing revenue. You didn’t put an NBA team on the floor, why should the real NBA teams share so much of the league money with you? Maybe you also have to share some of the gate, because a lot of those ticketholders aren’t coming to your arena to watch your team.
I’d still give them their draft choices. What burns me is that the Sixers are going to be terrible, get their draft choices AND the owner is going to make millions. He is getting paid to do this tank horror show.
