Anthony Edwards

Got a chance to check out Holy Spirit Prep vs Heritage on Facebook Live just now and got a good look at Anthony Edwards (projected #1 pick in 2020 on this site). Here's what I saw.

First of all, he's got an NBA body already. He looks like Rawle Alkins but I think he has a little more height on him. I wouldn't be suprised if Edwards is a legit 6'4 without shoes. He's wide and muscular and he is destined to look like Corey Maggette when he's older.

In terms of his play, he didn't do much in the first half, scoring only 4 points. In fact, he didn't even play much in the second quarter. But the second half was a totally different story. This guy is fantastic on the offensive end as a scorer. His handles are very solid and he can definitely create his own shot. He's got a picture-perfect jumpshot that he nailed from all over 3 point range. He's got NBA range already, draining a shot from near half court with great form. He's also more athletic than I expected (haven't watched many of his highlights). He had a dunk where he drove down the middle and got his head up near the rim. Really, on his his dunks he looks like a mini Lebron. Looks very polished offensively and obviously has worked hard on his game. He's definitely not just an athletic marvel who dominantes with strength and athleticism. Didn't see any impressive passes, but he doesn't run the point much at all. On the other hand, he does not play selfishly and lets the game come to him, despite the fact that he can get his shot whenever he wants. On defense he moves his feet well and had one big block, but it's hard to judge that end of the floor on this level.

It's obviously hard to scout guys at the high school level, especially when they're as physically developed as Edwards is. But his offensive game should translate well to the highest levels of basketball. At worst, I see him as a stronger, more athletic version of Alonzo Trier. At best, he looks like a more explosive and creative Buddy Hield, which would be a top tier shooting guard in the league. Bradley Beal might be a good comparison.

Has anyone else seen/heard anything about his game? Overall, despite his lackluster first half, I came away really liking him as a prospect.

Also, I want to make a quick

Also, I want to make a quick shoutout for Lance Terry, the top player on Heritage. He's a point guard headed to Gardner Webb, but if you watched the game you'd think he was headed to a high major.

I saw him play against James

I saw him play against James Wiseman and Memphis East last week...Local media played up the matchup...Wiseman's team came away with the win..Edwards impressed me with his ability to score at will, reminded me of James Harden .And his athletic ability reminded me of Oladipo...Memphis isnt listed as 1 of his potential destinations..But Before the game Edwards team visited ST. Jude hospital and a few other stops in the city and he told reporters he enjoyed the city and might consider adding Memphis to his list..Wiseman said he's on the phone with him everyday trying to get him to committ to the Tigers,Wiseman said he wants a Super Team...
