DondiJohnParticipantCurrently, he’s compared to Marcus Camby a good defensive player. I might get negs for this, but I have to go with my observation, Tyson Chandler comparison. Both frail and long. Defensive studs (not only blocks).

WolfRobParticipantI think thats +1 for sure… If I was going to say Tyson, I’d say with more potential….
Like if Javale became Tyson on the defensive end.

DondiJohnParticipantDefensively he’s NBA ready. Just add 15-20 pounds he’s a lock for NBA Defensive team
Offensively, he grew up playing guard position so he has above average handles for a big man. He has a decent touch from mid range and sometimes from the 3 point area. He’s just learning how to play inside and have post skills.

i’ve also said something like this. i think he’ll be able to guard 4s and 5s with the ability to stay in front of 3s on given plays. it’s crazy. this dude has some serious defensive potential.

sheltwon3ParticipantHe was kinda weak early on though but his body develop some and he got stronger. Same thing with Camby.
Davis may be more active than both of them though. Chandler has been his height a lot longer a the same age than Davis.

mj23mj23besteverParticipantwas gonna say kg before i saw someone already post it so i guess ill say it and agree with em imo davis is gonna come in and have an immeidate impact on the def end of the floor even b a top ten in the league blocks guy in rookie year

juslistinParticipantI like the Camby comparison, because although KG is an elite defender he is not the shotblocker Camby is. KG’s only averaged over 2 blocks a game twice in his career and I can easily see Davis averaging 2 blocks a game if not more.

uknationParticipantDavis can surpass all of them because he’s more active on defense than all of them were/are. They pretty much just blocked shots in their area where as Davis blocks in his and outside of his area. Not too many bigs have moved like him that we’re good on the defensive end. A couple of past bigs could if they focused more on defense but they never made it their craft

JoeWolf1Tyson Chandler has always been an underwhelming shot blocker for his size and athletic ability. I know blocking shots isn’t the most important thing in being a post defender ( hence his DPOTY award and Kevin Garnett being the other premeir post defender at PF ). Yet, I think Davis will block many a shot on the weak side, especially since they have a big guy like Okafor who can stand his ground on the opposing team’s center.
I wouldn’t be shocked if Davis blocked 2 shots per game as a rookie, something Tyson Chandler has never done in his career.

TallmanNYCParticipantCamby "only" blocked 3.6 shots per game as a rookie and then 3.9 as a junior when he was getting major minutes. Davis blocked 4.7 per game which is about 20% more. I think we should expect Davis to immediately compete with Ibaka for shot block leader of the league. I’m writing in 3 per game as a lock right now. Four per game is a possibility if they just leave him out there all game. Remember there are generally a lot more possessions in an NBA game than college. So many more shots that can be blocked. Chandler has never been a shot blocker. In fact, I bet he is below average for a starting NBA center.
The only thing that would stop Davis from getting blocks is if he can’t stay out of foul trouble or he has some sort of conditioning problems with guys bodying him up all game.
