I’m only using guys who suited up in a SONICS uniform, that means no Russell, since he was drafted as a Sonic but never played as a Sonic.

    PG. Gary Payton
    SG. Ray Allen

    PF. Shawn Kemp
    C. Jack Sikma

    Bench Rotation:

    Dennis Johnson
    Hersey Hawkins

Wow that’s really a bad ass lineup. Sad that Penny, Grant and T-Mac all had this injuries. To me one of the best lineups from all of this here. The prime versions of them would have been absolutely unstoppable!

Sad that none of them really had really been long with the Magic or had been plaqued by injuries in their prime.

    Toronto Raptors:

    PG: Damon Stoudamire
    SG: Vince Carter
    SF: Tracy McGrady
    PF: Chris Bosh

    Bench:

    Rudy Gay
    Marcus Camby
    Jose Calderon
    Kyle Lowry
    Andrea Bargnani
    Morris Peterson

Considered leaving off Gay and Lowry because they haven’t been around as long but…
This is what I’d say for the Raptors.
Could have put Alvin Williams, Oakley, Doug Christie in this as well.

I know Ray Allen is a great player, but the prospect of starting Gary Payton and Dennis Johnson two of the best defensive guards of their respective eras, is tantalizing. A frontcourt of Durant and Kemp would have the rest of the NBA running scared.

yeah this team would be absolutely nuts, and I had trouble deciding whether or not to start DJ for that exact reason. Believe me, on this imaginary Sonics team, DJ gets plenty of run in a small ball lineup with Kemp at the 5.

I like what fcb did and only took guys from his city, so no Big Country or Shareef for me.

    Here is my team:

    Starters:

    PG: Mike Conley Jr.
    SG: Tony Allen
    SF: Shane Battier
    PF: Zach Randolph
    C: Marc Gasol

    Bench:

    PG: Jason Williams
    SG: OJ Mayo
    SF: Mike Miller
    PF: Rudy Gay
    C: Pau Gasol

    Reserves:

    PG: Kyle Lowry
    SF: James Posey
    C: Lorenzen Wright

I am counting guys who I thought were good when they played for us. So, sorry, no Allen Iverson. No Damon Stoudemire who actually did play very well for us, but he wasn’t in his prime. Kyle Lowry was was erratic when he played for us (still is) but he was a great little cannon ball who got to the basket. Would be a PERFECT third point guard on this team behind MC, Jr. and J-Will.

I am starting Shane Battier over Rudy Gay since Shane is a bit more reliable on 3 pointers (especially from the corners) and is a better defender all-around. He also moves the ball well and is a solid rebounder. He was very good during his prime here and was still very effective during the 2011 run.

And, call me crazy, but I am taking 2011 Z Bo (the guy was a FORCE) as a starting power forward over Pau Gasol. More intense, a better rebounder, and a much better low post weapon. Pau is a better shot blocker, a better passer, and can also play center but I am giving the nod to a vintage Zach Randolph.

At shooting guard, I love the way Tony Allen plays with this team, especially going against a scoring phenom like Kobe or Kevin Durant. Then we can bring OJ Mayo off the bench for offense, shooting, and even some ball handling. OJ thrived off the bench in 2011 providing a much needed offensive spark.

My bench is entertaining as hell with J-Will throwing passes, Rudy Gay there to finish, Mike Miller a threat from anywhere and also a solid passer, and OJ Mayo as a perfect third or fourth option. Pau would be an ideal big man off the bench with a variety of moves. He is also a solid defender and a great passer. You can’t get a much better bench than J-Will, OJ, Rudy, Mike Miller, and Pau. Great offense, with some pretty good length. Not the toughest team but they can score with anybody. These guys can pass too.

As I said before, Kyle Lowry is my third point guard getting the nod over a washed-up AI, a pretty solid Damon Stoudemire, and Jerryd Bayless.

I also have James Posey here who gave us some very good years. He was Tony Allen before Tony Allen. Great length for defense and toughness. He could also stretch the floor with the 3 point shot. He gives this team yet another defensive ace.

My last guy is Lorenzen Wright who played in Memphis in high school, college, and then in the pros as our first good center for the Memphis edition of the Grizzlies. He played hard and hustled. He could bang inside, rebound, block shots, and score. He also had some monster games for us as a fixture for the Hubie Brown-led Pau, Batter, Miller, and J-Will teams.

Rocket Man forgot about Clyde Drexler. Rockets have had some greats throughout the years. And look at the centers! Hakeem, Ralph Sampson, Moses Malone, Elvin Hayes, and Yao Ming!

My NBA team before Orlando drafted Penny Hardaway (and before the Grizzlies showed up in Memphis) was the LA Lakers.

The Lakers all-time team is incredible.

    Starters:

    PG: Magic Johnson
    SG: Kobe Bryant
    SF: Elgin Baylor
    PF: Pau Gasol
    C: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

    Bench:

    PG: Nick Van Exel
    SG: Jerry West
    SF: Michael Cooper
    PF: James Worthy
    C: Shaquille O’Neal

    Reserves:

    SG: Gail Goodrich
    SG: Byron Scott
    C: Wilt Chamberlain

You know the Lakers are loaded when the Minny guys like George Mikan are left off and the team still features THREE of the FOUR best all time centers with Wilt being the third stringer here. Honorable mention here to Vlade Divac who would probably be the third string center AT LEAST for any other team.

Other than center there are a ton of guards here with Magic, Kobe, West, Goodrich, and Byron Scott. I have Nick Van Exel as my backup point guard (thought about putting Goodrich at that spot) because he had infinite range, and could score with anyone when he got hot. He also quarterbacked the very entertaining, solid (and dangerous) Lake Show teams, keeping the Lakers relevant between the Showtime Era and the Shaq/Kobe mini dynasty. Not too many power forwards here, with Pau Gasol being the best. Worthy gets the nod as the back up stretch four. Michael Cooper is here for defense, dunking, and 3 pointers. Bill Simmons is now talking about guys with the DDT (defense, dunks, and threes). Cooper was doing it almost 30 years ago. Byron Scott is my last guy in, barely beating out Eddie Jones and AC Green.

The LA Lakers all-time squad features a who’s-who of basketball royalty. I will take this all-time franchise team over anyone, INCLUDING the all-time Celtics squad.

    King Calucha,

Conley has had 15 playoff wins in his Grizzlies career. J-Will had zero. Conley is also better at defense and doesn’t turn the ball over. THIS YEAR’s Mike Conley has been one of the most effective point guards in the league.

Hey, I also left Rudy Gay out of the starting lineup and he has more “talent” than Shane Battier, but I wanted Shane’s defense and heady play in the starting lineup.

That also makes for a great second unit of J-Will, OJ Mayo, Rudy, Mike Miller, and Pau Gasol.

It’s tough to pin down a starting 5ive from a franchise’s history but here goes.

    PG: Mark Price
    SG: Austin Carr
    SF: LeBron James
    PF: Larry Nance
    C: Brad Daugherty
    6th man: Kyrie Irving

Irving misses out mainly due to respect, Irving’s story has just begun so it wouldn’t be fair to put him ahead of Price or Carr after just finishing his second season.

Honourable mention: Zydrunas Ilgauskas, John Williams, World B. Free

As a longtime bullets/Wizards fan.. I guess I should give one team for each since not many players made the transition while playing good ball. This is tough I had to do research to make sure which players were there before/after the name change. Do I get to count mister Michael Jordan??

    Bullets:

    PG – Earl Monroe
    SG – Bernard King
    SF – Wes Unseld
    PF – Chris Webber
    C – Moses Malone

Bench – Bernard King, Pervis Ellison, Georghe Muresan, Muggsy Bogues.
Wizards: (Do I get to count MJ??)

    PG – John Wall
    SG – Gilbert Arenas
SF – Caron Butler (or Jordan if I get to count him)
    PF – Antawn Jamison
C – Chris Webber (was a Wizard Briefly)

If this lineup doesn’t look realistic with Jamison at the PF and Webber at the C, then move Webber to the PF, Jamison to the bench where he has been one of the NBA’s best all time 6th man, and put Emeka Okafor at C.

Bench: Bradley Beal, Mike Bibby, Rashard Lewis, Brendan Haywood, Emeka Okafor, Nene.

SF- Bernard King/ Bob McAdoo/ Bill Bradley
PF- Carmelo Anthony/ Dave DeBusschere/ Harry Gallatin

Just missed the cut: Charles Oakley; Michael Ray Richardson; David Lee; Amare Stoudamire

-That scoring duo of Bernard and Carmelo would be down right absurd!

    – It’s sad that Derek Harper even crossed my mind at PG. Even though he gave us some solid yet unspectacular play, it just goes to show you how thin we’ve historically been at the point guard. Its especially ironic since New York City is historically known for producing flashy point guards.

    – It’s even sadder to think what Michael Ray Richardson could’ve been versus what he was…

I wouldnt start Cheeks over Moses. Prime Wilt could probably defend most 4s, and crush them defensively. Young Barkley had enough athleticism to guard the 3. Barkley, Wilt, and Moses would absolutely dominate the glass and clean up AIs and Dr Js misses. AI, Dr J, and Barkley trailing on the break would be lethal.
Not much outside shooting on that unit, but simply overpowering especially in the playoffs.

Plus, Wilt, Dr J, Barkley, and AI were among the very biggest trendsetters and personalities in the game. They’d dominate sportscenter with razzle dazzle and great quotes.

I’m a Celtics fan and only Celtics depth/bench would beat 76ers.

Just my opinion. I’d rather have a pure pass-first PG (who was also a very good defender) rather than Iverson running point. Moses would definitely get a lot of minutes off the bench though at both PF and C.

Seriously James Edwards and Dawkins over Bob Lanier and Ben Wallace? That can’t be right. Frankly I would have Laimbeer as my third string center for the Pistons.

It’s also a bit strange to leave off Billups and Rip Hamilton.

Damn Bob Lanier really gets no love. The guy is in the hall of fame, made 7 all-star teams as a piston and averaged more than 20 PPG for nine straight years with Detroit. You don’t even have to remove anyone from your team just put him at #10! Dave Debusschere was a damn good player for the Pistons too.
