I was thinking if you looked at all teams’ historic rosters and picked a greatest ever side for each franchise (players at their peak on that team – not somone who joined a team later on after a top career) which team would win the dream tournament?

The Lakers and Celtics would be insanely strong, but don’t forget Wilt is still GSW franchise’s record scorer. Jordan with a best ever Bulls would be very competitive too, the Daly and Larry Brown era Detroit teams combined with a peak Grant Hill. The 76ers again with Wilt, Barkley, Malone, AI and co spring to mind.

    What do others think?

Spurs lineup of Parker/Gervin/Leonard/Duncan/Robinson (Manu as 6th man of course) would be one of the last teams standing.

Me and some of my friends play with the All Time teams on occasion. It’s super fun. The All Time Spurs team, as mentioned is beastly. The All Time Rockets team was pretty much unstoppable with Steve Francis, TMac, Drexler, Hakeem, and Yao. The Lakers and Celtics are of course legendary, with the Lakers being the best. Just too many HOFers. Magic, Kobe, Worthy, Kareem, and Shaq… what you doing with that?

Is that really your all-time Rockets team? I’d take Moses over Yao, and Harden has already had a better career than Steve Francis …

As a native Houstonian, I’d have Olajuwon at 5 and Malone at  4 with Ming off the bench and would ONE HUNDRED PERCENT start Francis over Harden. I’m trying to win, not watch some dude dribble the air outta the ball then jack up stepback 23 footers all night then spend his game check at the titty bar.

Raptors would likely have a chance at winning the lottery in this format.

What would New Orleans look like?

CP3, Baron Davis, Peja, Anthony Davis, DeMarcus Cousins

Add David West, Tyson Chandler, Jamal Mashburn, J.R. Smith and Jrue Holiday

Fun team but not a contender in this tourney

Could the Warriors be the best ever if you took their current starting lineup and made the minor upgrade of swapping Pachulia out for Wilt?

And does Rick Barry replace Klay? I think he probably does, but a few years from now I might think differently.

If you read it, I said those are the rosters in 2k. James Harden does start over Francis, that’s my mistake. And Yao is a much better video game option. 7’6 with a jumper and he blocks everything.

Houston would also have an early Ralph Sampson with Yao off the bench as a reserve twin towers!

Warriors might be 3rd best ever with Wilt. I would go with Klay’s defense at the 2 over Rick Barry.  Barry was more of a 3 anyway, plus I want that great Warriors chemistry.

Boston with Cousy, Hondo, Bird, McHale, and Russell with Paul Pierce being either the first cut or the main guy off the bench.

Lakers win though with unbelievable size inside. Magic, Kobe, Baylor (although James Worthy might actually be a better fit) with Shaq and Kareem. Although you might go "small" on the perimeter with Magic, West, and Kobe. Then if Orlando claims Shaq you go smaller with Worthy at the 4 and Kareem at the 5 for a ridiculous Showtime arsenal.

Blazers: Lillard, Terry Porter, Clyde Drexler, Maurice Lucas, and Bill Walton. Another smaller team with a great center.

Sonics/Thunder: Payton, Westbrook, Durant, Kemp, and Jack Sikma.

Any team with Kareem and Big O would stand a chance, right?

    Big O/Sidney Moncrief/Bobby Dandridge/Marques Johnson/Kareem?

(No, Greek Freak is not an all-timer yet. Look up career stats on Moncrief, Dandridge and Johnson if you don’t believe me).

Forgot about him, though I did consider Ray Allen at one of the wing spots …

Sixers- Wilt, Barkley, AI, Dr. j, Moses.  I would throw Andrew Toney in as the sixth.  This lineup can score with the best of them

Chicago – Derrick Rose, MJ, Scottie, Worm and Artis Gilmore.

Miami – Lebron, Wade, Glen Rice, Bosh, Shaq – Tim Hardaway & Alonzo Mourning

Pistons – Isiah, Chauncey, Dumars, Rasheed,  BigBen

With all players at their peak, wow

From an all-time historic perspective, no one is likely beating the Celtics. They could literally put up an entire 12 man roster of hall of famers. It would be difficult to even determine who would make the final cut but I’m guessing it would probably go something like this:

Starters: cousy, havlicek, pierce, bird, Russell

Reserves: McHale, parish, Sam Jones, cowens, Garnett, Dennis Johnson, bill sharman

There are several hof players like kc Jones, Tommy heinsohn, ray Allen, etc. that played for the Celtics when they were in or close to their prime that likely wouldn’t even crack the roster. Of course, a lot of those guys played in a much different league so it’s difficult to say how that roster would actually stack up against more modern players.
