I pretty much liked both teams.  I think in East only real snub was Andre Drummond, I would have either put John Wall or Bradley Beal on team but wouldn’t have given Washington 2 players.  On the West I think Nikola Jokic and Clint Capela (CP3 point is Houston deserved more than one guy) got snubbed.  I would have taken away one of the 4 Warriors (Green or Thompson) and I think Pelicans didn’t deserve two guys should have gotten Demarcus Cousins or Anthony Davis.

Honestly don’t think anyone got snubbed this year. There’s just a lot of talent and someone good is always bound to be left off. As a Washington fan, I’m inclined to disagree with the notion that we didn’t deserve two players. Wall missed some time to injury, but is still averaging 19 and 9 for the year. And Beal has emerged as one of the best scorers in the game. You have to have both on the team.

Also, lol @ the notion of having to pick between Davis and Cousins. They’re both putting up ridiculous numbers and are clearly two of the game’s top 5 bigs. Team record shouldn’t be THAT much of a detriment. If you’re going to hold a team’s record against a player, then Jokic wasn’t snubbed at all. I guess you can make a case for Capela, but I think he’s more of a really good role player than a legit all star.

I posted a few days ago, but I’m legitimately pissed about Horford getting in over Drummond. I get that they’re 1 game out of the playoffs, but all star nods are supposed to reward individuals having outstanding seasons.  Stats below:

    Horford: 13.3 PPG 7.7 RPG 5.3 APG 1.0 BPG 0.6 SPG 51.4% FG 43.0% 3PT 72.5% FT

    Drummond: 14.3 PPG 15.0 RPG 3.9 APG 1.2 BPG 1.5 SPG 54.3% FG 0% 3PT 62.9% FT

So to recap, Drummond bests Horford in points, DOUBLES him in rebounds (where he leads the league), blocks, steals, FG%, and Hollinger PER (23.29 versus 18.80).  Horford has assists (by a whopping 1.4) , 3 PT% (While impressive for a center Horford shoots a grand total of 3.3 3PA per game), and FT% (by 10%, and Drummond has improved his by 24% from last year)

It just infuriates me.  Drummond leads the league in rebounding, contributes heavily on blocks/steals (only him, Giannis, and Cousins average at least1.5 steals and 1.2 blocks), and has drastically improved the greatest holes in his game since last year.  No knocks on Horford, he has been incredibly solid this year.  My frustrations can best be summarized exactly how Chauncey Billups put it on ESPN a few days ago. "Solid and All-Star don’t go together."

I think your big should rebound…

But Horford is a huge reason the Celtics are so good.

I personally dislike the bigman hybrid that has become in fashion and prefer a traditional big (Drummond is close but isn’t skilled enough offensively with a traditional postup game…I don’t think just rebounding with an improved free throw shot (woop-de-do) deserves you an all star spot.

Anyway, Horford’s all around game puts him ahead of Drummond whose game is very limited.  Horford again, as your classic tweener, has an old-man game now where he is able to pumpfake the younger players to death and shot over them.  He is also an excellent passer.  So he’s obviously more valuable than Drummond on the offensive end in his role.

Where Horford stands out is on his defense.  As Embiid called out Drummond, he really doesn’t play a lot of defense.  Horford on the other hand, is what makes Boston the best defensive team in the league.  Horford can switch on anyone on defense.

Ultimately, he can even shoot a 3 ball consistently, great midrange game, is a very good passer, and can switch defend 1-5.  Reddick said it in a podcast, and its known around the league, Al Horford is the reason Boston is as good as it is (along with a guy named Kyrie), but their defense is best in the league.

I never was a fan of Horford because again I just hate the trend away from traditional bigmen (even with JoJo I don’t like my big men shooting 3s), but if I was going to have a hybrid big, this might be the guy.  I’d take him on my team all the time.

Bottom line, he’s just way more versatile than Drummond, regardless waht the stats say.  Stats don’t tell you if a guy can switch on D or bail out a team at the end of a shotclock with a couple of sick pumpfakes leading to a jumper.

Horford always wins. Won in college. Hes always been on winning teams in the NBA, 60+ wins with ATL, now with Boston and his team is still #1. He’s a winning player and it’s recognised. Stats are not everything. He’s good at everything and comparable to Draymond Green by the numbers.

Drummond was unlucky, but other guys who missed out include CP3, Khris Middleton, Nikola Jokic, Paul George, Tobias Harris, Ben Simmons and Blake Griffin. Each had a good case.

Starters for Both sides seem pretty fair..

However when it comes to the bench for both..Its like they have to give the 1st seed some pity votes..
See the year Kyle Korver made it with the Hawks to what I mean…Who also had something like 4 players that year..Millsap,Horford,Teague and Korver I think…

To be honest 4 warriors should not be in the Allstar game…I think they should cap things at 3 players max from one team..I can name at least 3 players who would be more fun to watch than Draymond Green and would be as deserving stat wise, don’t get me wrong he is valuable to his team but is he truly an Allstar? I think teams do it so the Number 1 seeds are more fatigued or more at risk of injury post allstar game..

The only positive is at least the Warriors can’t tryget in P.G’s ear and try steal P.G away from  us like they did with K.D due to him not getting a bid lol… # recruitgate

Al Horford’s bare overall stats have never been that impressive for a guy who will be making his 5th All Star appearance or didn’t spend the early years of his career in a reserve role and then have big years at his peak. His numbers have been fairly even throughout his career but as Turtle says he is a winner, he contributes a lot in defence, intangibles which make him such a good NBA player and why the coaches vote for him numerous times for All Star games.

Paul George, Nikola Jokic, and Clint Capela.

All 3 would have been arguably better picks than Green.

    Just my opinion.

    Green isn’t that good.

Drummond or Whiteside ahead of Horford for sure.

Whiteside was out a lot early in the season, but a Miami Heat should’ve been an all-star. Dragic maybe.

Al Horford could be a sneaky wild card player in the All Star Game.  He’s one of the few all-around, two way bigs who can also score inside and play some interior defense.

Am I biased (Australian, and got to meet him) for thinking Ben Simmons has a case for feeling snubbed?

16.3 ppg 7.9 rpg 7.2 apg is pretty remarkable in terms of overall production in the ‘big three’ statistical categories.

More impressive though… his defense, loose ball gets, 2 steals per game, and leading an improved Sixers team… I really think he deserved a backcourt spot over John Wall. I really like Wall but I think the Wizards have had a disappointing season relative to expectations.

    Am I just being biased?
