I have to say I think De’Aaron Fox is being slept on again. This guy has elite quickness and great size for the lead guard spot. It’s bold, but I think he’ll be all rookie first team. Another guy is Mitchell, who slightly reminds me of a bulkier Lillard. That dude can play.

The all rookie 1st team doesn’t do it by position, so we could have a plethora of guards on it.

I think Dennis Smith, De’Aaron Fox, Donovan Mitchell, Lauri Markkanen and Jayson Tatum will all have great shots to be considered.

I’m sure the Laker love will somehow get Lonzo on the team no matter how much other rookies prove to potentially be better. I’m not a Lonzo hater but I want to see him earn 1st team. I didn’t think he deserved summer league MVP.  I wouldn’t count out Kuzma, who could be in the mix as well.

Fultz will be in the running but I think simmons will get the love from his squad. And I’m going to go ahead and say Ben Simmons is a lock for 1st team. Milos Tesodvic will also be in a great situation.

I think it will be: Ben Simmons (ROY), Jayson Tatum, Lonzo Ball, De’Aaron Fox, and Dennis Smith.

First out: Fultz, Markannen, Mitchell, Kuzma.

Toughest to leave off was Fultz, but I think Smith, Fox, and Ball will have more opportunity.

I’d be interested to see everyone’s rookie rankings as of right now, because it seems people aren’t nearly as high on Fultz as they were before the draft.  I’ve even gone as far as saying I like Donovan Mitchell more myself.  My top 5 rookies based on how I think they’ll perform this year are Simmons, DSJ, Josh Jackson, Tatum, and Lonzo.  And I wanted to say Fox over Lonzo for this year, but Fox isn’t starting as of now. I’ve yet to see one person pick Fultz for ROY, but I hope he proves us all wrong and is incontention for it. It’d be great for the Sixers, the Easter Conference, and I think the league as a whole

Fox is most certainly starting and will get all the minutes he can handle with George Hill down.

I would like to see what Jordan Bell could do as a starter getting 30ish minutes a night.

I would like to see what Teodosic could do as a starter in a small-ball backcourt with Patrick Beverley.

I think Tatum could win the award if the C’s do what they SHOULD and they play as many lineups featuring BOTH Tatum and Gordon Hayward as much as possible, either big or small lineups.  Although, they might need to trot out heavy doses of a Kyrie, Brown, Tatum, Hayward, Horford, five man unit.  I think those are their best five guys anyway, and it’s not like Marcus Morris is some Russell-esque rebounder/shot blocker.

Other than that, I think it will be a battle between Simmons and Lonzo for ROY.  With some other guys like Smith, Jr., Jackson, and Fultz in that second tier of ROY picks.

At this point, I can’t even do a ROY power poll without first trying to figure out how many minutes/touches/shots these guys are gonna get.

Hey, I could make a case for Jordan Bell being ROY.  Or, a guy who spends 1/3rd of the year in the G League.

I have few doubts that fox is going to be a very good NBA player for a long time (possibily even an elite one if he adds strength and develops a consistent jump shot). I was actually one of the few who thought the Lakers should give him serious consideration over ball at number 2. There is just something about his character and disposition on and off the court that I really like.

I’m not sure he will put up the overall numbers of guys like Smith or ball this season due to opportunity. As of right now, George hill is the starter in Sacramento and they aren’t paying him 19 million a year to be a backup, at least not this season. Fox is likely to be brought along slowly. Unless something drastically changes, we might not really get a sense of what type of player he will ultimately be for a few years.

For me from what I’ve seen its  –

Tier 1: Simmons Tatum Josh Jackson

Tier 2: Ball Mitchell Monk Smith Fox Kuzma

Tier 3: Fultz Teodosic Bogdanovic Markannen JCollins Isaac

Then everyone else. Out of the rest, Semi Ojeleye is my bolter. Simmons ROY.

Fox is still backing up George Hill who was VERY good last year for Utah, and is going to be making 20 million dollars per year.

With him playing probably around 30 minutes per game, I would really be surprised if Fox got more than about 20 minutes per game. Now, he averaged 10.33 ppg and 3.33 assists per game in about 17 minutes during the preseason, so I think if you adjust these to games in which the competition will be harder, and starters play bigger minutes you can probably count on about 7 or 8 points per game from him with probably 2-3 assists and a steal.

Will that be enough to make All-Rookie 1st team? Not sure about that, but he’s talented enough to make a jump if Hill gets hurt.

With Exum getting hurt in Utah, I think Mitchell has a nice chance to assert himself in the rotation and make a name for himself. He had a nice summer and preseason, and could edge out Alec Burks for court time if Burks continues to struggle with staying healthy. Mitchell could be a real sleeper on the All-Rookie team, but even if he struggles to get regular minutes this year, I think he’s a very promising young player.

The All-Rookie team is as much about opportunity as it is about talent.

Im pretty sure George Hill, Vince Carter and Zach Randolph were all brought in as "benchmark" guys for the young players to surpass. Coach says you gotta earn these minutes by playing better than this player and the plan is for Fox, Jackson, Bogdanovic and Labissiere to eventually get those minutes. Theres also a salary threshold you have to be over so its not like they could just not sign someone. In all reality I think George and Randolph have already accepted to eventually be phased into backup roles its just a matter of time.

George Hill is 30 years old and averaged 17 points per game last year. Sure, they drafted Fox to be their future PG, but that doesn’t mean he’ll flat out beat out George Hill as a rookie.

I think it’s inaccurate to lump Hill in with the 40+ year old VC and the 36 year old Zach Randolph who accepted a bench role last season for Memphis.

George Hill signed a 3 year deal, the first two guaranteed. Rather than Hill accepting the role of mentor and phase out, I’d disagree and say he wanted a big payout for a couple years after having a very good season in Utah. He left the Jazz to get paid, and I think he expects to be a big time player in Sacramento this year. As much as anyone likes Fox, I think there is maybe a 5% chance he beats out Hill for the job this year. He’s not the aging mentor that Z-Bo or Vince is, he’s on the end of his prime, and when the Kings are ready for Fox to take the helm, they’ll trade Hill or just let him go.

I truly see Fox earning the starting PG role, but not at the expense of Hill. I think what we see is Fox/Hill back-court with Hield being moved to 6th man. This is not a slight on Hields talent I just think he will excel as a #1 scoring option of the bench ala Eric & Ben Gordon.

The Jackson vs Bogdanovic battle intrigues me and I think Jackson wins it early on with Bogdanovic looking like the better player at seasons end.

After seeing 2 of these unexpected rookie threads I can clearly see who nobody is talking about making the all rookie team. Justin Jackson. He is going to get playing time in Sacramento as he is already on e of there best players. His competition for minutes is Vince "half man, half old man" Carter and Bogdan Bogdanovic and Bogdan hasnt gotten off to a good start despite being another very talented Kings rookie. Jackson could very well be one of the leaders of this team.

Tatum is starting tonight at power forward for the C’s.  Guess they are going small with Kyrie, Brown, Hayward, Tatum, and Horford at center.

If Tatum starts a lot of games (or at least gets heavy minutes every night) I think that puts him close to the lead for the ROY.

My Big 3 for ROY now would be Simmons, Lonzo, and Tatum.

After that, might not be much difference from the 4th guy on the All Rookie 1st team and the last guy on the 2nd team.

Quite a big "second tier" that in other years would be competing for ROY.  Then a very large 3rd tier, too.

3rd tier guys can play — maybe even make the All Rookie Team, if given the opportunity.

Nobody would be surprised if Teodosic led all rookies in assists (if given enough minutes).

Nobody would be surprised if Jordan Bell led all rookies in rebounds AND blocked shots (if given enough minutes).  Bell could probably be one of the better steals guys too, and a top FG% guy (most of his shots come from point blank range).

There are probably some guys out there who could be rookie gunners on bad teams, and I am not just talking about Kyle Kuzma.

Highly volatile: Josh Jackson and Dennis Smith, Jr. could be ROY OR they could end up not even making the 2nd team.

And, I always forget about Malik Monk and Frank Knicksanity or whatever his name is…

Monk and Frank might be 1st team locks by the end of the year, who knows?

Or, they fall out of the 2nd team, too, and end up in the G League…

Same with Lauri.  Although I am gonna go with Lauri Legend since he can shoot AND will get plenty of opportunities on a really bad Bulls team.

First team: Lonzo, Tatum, Simmons, Lauri Legend, and Jordan "All I do is rebound, block shots, defend, steal the ball, run the floor, dunk, defend pick and rolls, make the right play, throw nifty outlet passes, and help my team win 75 games" Bell.

Fultz? What did DaJuan Wagner average as a rookie?

Looks like Tatum is now a legit candidate with the unfortunate Hayward injury.

I think there are a few guys we should better not sleep on and really think Monk and Mitchell are two guys who will be in the top ten rookie rankings from the beginning. Markannen obviously has a strong position too now with froncourt tormoil in Chicago. Monk is the least talked about guy and I really like him as a Monta Ellis type of blur with a little bit of Eddie Jones frame and a little edge to his game. Hood and Mitchell will light up in faster game in Utah this year I think.

My bold statement is either Mitchell and/or Monk will be first team members

Jordan Bell is clearly a better player than Zaza Poopoolia. I wonder how long it takes until they give him those minutes.

I’ve always been keen on Jarrett Allen.

The guy should of been in the lottery, I would not have minded if my Pistons took him @ 12.

He is definitely been slept on, I think he will make the 2nd team all-rook
