I was reading today that apparently Al Horford has been working a lot on his mid-range game and has a pretty automatic shot. If he can put that part of his game together, I think he could be a more athletic version of Karl Malone if he keeps working at it. Too bad Atlanta hasn’t done anything but sign Jason Collins to help out their woes at center. I think Horford would be so much more productive at power forward.

It was on espn.com insider, its not much, but if its true the Hawks could definitely make the best of the situation Horford use his new found jumper to mis-match slower centers, even if he can’t move to power forward this year, I bet his point totals increase to around 15 or 16

The Atlanta Journal Constitution’s Hawks beat writer Sekou Smith has been tweeting about the Hawks’ informal scrimmages two weeks before training camp opens. Smith has had nothing but praise for power forward Al Horford as of late.

“Al’s jumper is automatic,” Smith tweeted. “He’s going to have that face up wrinkle to his game this year.”

“Garret Siler needs a Trapper Keeper and lunch bag for what Al is doing to him right now,” Smith followed with another tweet. “This is like home schooling your big kid.”

Smith also had praise for point guard Mike Bibby: “Bibby looks good. In game shape already even. Siler is much slimmer than he was during mini-camp and he’s still huge.”

Karl Malone was a MVP, and (if im correct) the 2nd all time scorer and was a elite rebounder.

I think Horford needs to move back to PF and he can be a solid 19-9 player but I don’t see him being a Karl Malone type player

I said if he keeps working on it. It might be a pretty high prediction, but Malone was a great rebounder with a sweet mid-range jump shot. I wasn’t saying Al Horford will win MVP and be the NBA’s second leading scorer, I was saying if he keeps working on his jumper he could be a great rebounding big man with a sweet jumper(similar to Karl Malone), maybe I should have said Boozer or something

Its all good, I probably didn’t word that the best, I just think he has a lot of upside, and if he is willing to put in work on his jumper he could still have a high ceiling at power forward. Malone dropped close to 30 a game a couple seasons, I don’t think Horford is that kind of player, but I do think he could be 20-10 all-star type player if he moves to power forward. I was just trying to think of a guy who rebounded, could shoot, and defend so I though of Malone,…how about a more athletic Carlos Boozer, I think that works better anyway now that I think about it

Horford needs to be moved to PF! Trade Marvin for Chris Kaman..Big Al will never be more than a 12-13 and 10 guy unless he moves to PF.

I think calling Al Horford’s potential of being the next Karl Malone is out there. I see Horford as a solid 17-20ppg and 8 or 10rpg. He will be an all-star here and there but he still needs to work on his game. I agree, Atlanta needs to get a legit centre and move Horford to the PF position. To me Al Horford is more like a better offensively David Lee to be honest with you. He can rebound like Lee but if he can get an outside jumper, I think he would be more of a Carlos Boozer not like a Malone. I guess we can wait for a few years and see what else Horford can do and if he is showing flashes of being a hall of famer, then I guess we bring the Karl Malone comparisons about.

I hear you, the clips have too many centers anyway, I think Atlanta could be on the same tier as Boston, Orlando, and Cleveland if the just get a decent center. Mike Bibby is a veteran point guard, you have Jamal Crawford and Joe Johnson who can light it up at the 2, Josh Smith and Marvin Williams can play the 3 if Horford is 4. You have to give up either Crawford, Johnson, or Williams to get anyone good, but yeah, with Kaman they would jump past the level of being ousted in the 2nd round which is where I think they are headed this year too if they don’t make a move before the trade deadline.

I think the consensus that I am hearing and what I also think is the best is Horford being moved to the 4. I think they have a quicker lineup the way it is, but I think it might actually be the best for not only Horford, but Josh Smith. I honestly hope Horford leaves Atlanta. I think it’s going to be hard for him to develop. He really doesn’t get many shots, he’s playing out of position and even though they’ve made a few playoff trips, I’m not sold on the coach and the whole ownership thing hasn’t been close to stable in a long time.

I want Woodson gone as well, but as long as they get to the playoffs and keep getting closer to being contenders, he wont be gone. He really runs no half-court plays (except isos with Bibby and Johnson), and he doesnt even run the break as much as he should. Joe Johnson and Bibby bail them out everytime with passing, slashing, and spot up shooting…he’s not a good coach to me at all…

i like hortford but i just dont see the incredible upside. i also dont get to much into the articles about a player working hard on something since every player is usually quoted as to working hard on some part and said to have gotten much better( some do get slightly better but whens the last time did you see a player getting leaps and bounds better). i think he can be a 17-10-12reb type guy. maybve in the mold of hoarce grant in his prime. i always wonder why when peoiple compare some of the non all star players they dont compare them to past good players, just past superstars

i totally agree with u on the Horace Grant comparison. Ho Grant was reallty good in his prime and i think Horford is almost a clone of Grant. I think 17-18ppg and 10-12rpg is his peak, and thats not bad at all

Marvin Williams did improve his range tremendously. I believe he was an 11% shooter on 1/11 shooting befoe last year for his CAREER..he always has had a good shot, but he didnt add any real range until last season…
