SlickBouncePassParticipantHow do we make this happen? TJ McConnell is an overachiever, but he and Simmons have chemistry on the court. I noticed this same chemistry between Simmons and Jamal Murray during the Nike Hoop Summit two years ago. Murray and McConnell are guards that can play with and without the ball. As exciting as Dunn would have been due to his being a defensive stud, I’m not sure offensively it would’ve clicked. I think it would’ve been stagnant offense with poor shooting.
So where do we get guards from? FA? Trades?
I’ve gone on record and endorsed De’Aaron Fox but he is young. Bayless and Gerald Henderson are just NBA bodies, nothing exciting. We missed on Devin Booker bigtime because the Heat and OKC picks didn’t convert.
I like that Bayless can shoot the 3 but we can do better than Bayless.
Obviously with Simmons slashing and other-wordly vision, we need guys taht can knock down the 3. Luwawu has a very nice form and has some confidence.
The Sixers went hard at Jamal Crawford but I didn’t get that pick at all. He is a pure scorer but how does he fit within your system. If you want to play like the Clippers, fine, but not the Spurs or Warriors, which is where we are headed with all of our international talent.
So what are some nice trade options or FA signings for some savvy veteran guard play with guys that can knock down the 3.
The Kings traded away Bellinelli and I wish we had picked him up. I want veteran guards that are going to make good decisions and help to lead all of the bigmen on our squad.
Aaron Afflalo signed with the Kings he would have been a nice addition.
Ryan Anderson signed with Houston, he could have helped us.
Leandro Barbosa signed with PHX but we could have overpaid for his veteran presence.
Matt Barnes could have been a veteran stabilizer.
Mario Chalmers is coming off injury but would love his intensity in our lockerroom.
Rasual Butler or Seth Curry are better options than Hollis Thompson.
Kirk Hinrich is a nice player to conduct our offense besides Simmons.
Kevin Martin is a nice target to hit those open 3s he will get.
Gary Neal is still a FA, and is a really smart good player.
The 76ers Exercised their option on freakin Hollis Thompson….we can upgrade.
There is also Norris Cole, PJ Hairston, Randy Foye, OJ Mayo
Let’s look at 2017:
JJ Reddick is unrestricted, so is Anthony Morrow
CJ McCollum is restricted
Patty Mills is unrestricted
Kyle Lowry, Gordon Hayward
There are significantly less good guard options in 2017 from Free Agency.
What are you guys comfortable with?
I like paying for Gary Neal, bringing in a veteran like Matt Barnes,
and next year going after someone like Reddick and Mills, Mills would play very well off of Simmons.
Lowry and Hayward and McCollum are reaches….but it would be real nice.

Memphis MadnessParticipantSomething to look into.
Don’t overspend, because once these core guys go off their rookie deals they are gonna be $$$$$$$.
Not any core type players out there.
Sooo, get some bargain guys, some veteran stabalizers, and some young guys on rookie deals that have basically fallen through the cracks.
For veteran stablizers I would look into Richard Jefferson and James Jones from the Cavs.
Philly has the bigs, and if TJ McConnell is the guy then they have a guy taking up heavy minutes at point guard.
So, basically you need some perimeter shooting and veteran leadership.
I would go with Richard Jefferson and James Jones. Jones can hit the 3 and gives you spacing.
I actually really, really liked Richard Jefferson’s overall floor game during the NBA Finals.
If you guys wanna take a rain check on somebody then take a look at Jordan Adams. He is on the Grizzlies roster, but he will be out for the year with an injury and we might need to go in a different direction with that last roster spot. Throw a bit of cash and a future 2nd rounder our way and I think we can get a deal done.
Then you guys have a fairly versatile, LONG 2 guard with some upside a couple of years from now. He is a guy who can score some, handle the ball some, and get you some steals.
Tayshaun Prince might be another good veteran presence. Would give the Sixers a secondary ball handler if they use Ben Simmons at the point guard spot. OR use Prince as Ben Simmons’ backup at small forward.
You guys could probably get Andy V in a sign and trade with the Warriors. Send Golden State some cash and a future second rounder and you would probably have a deal. Andy V is a serviceable veteran with experience. Enough size to play EITHER big man spot. Not the best shot blocker but a pretty good rebounder.
Personally, with Okafor, Embiid, Noel, Simmons, and Saric on the roster I wouldn’t pay ANY MORE bigs. Then with Simmons slotted in for some minutes at the 3 (and at point guard) and with Saric probably getting a look at small forward, I am not gonna spend any more more money at small forward EITHER.
Go with Andy V, then some combination (if possible) of Richard Jefferson, Dahntay Jones, Tay Prince, and James Jones.

Celtics3178ParticipantThis is what happens when you tank for 3 years straight. No veteran in there right mind would go there in free agency. Veterans who don’t have rings want to chase rings and there’s no chance of a ring in the next 4 years in Phili. Simmons and next years draft are huge building blocks but not contenders in the near future. I don’t see Phili making the playoffs anytime soon. They have some talent no doubt Simmons is phenomenal but he’s not a star yet. Noel has talent Phili is crazy to trade him. I think you got a great pickup in Bayless he’s a decent role player I could see him with career numbers. Gerald Henderson will def start and improve your team. I could see him putting up similar to his time Charlotte 2011-2013 he averaged around 15 4 and 2. After this year you should get a better look at free agents once Simmons proves himself and they add another top pick. Money talks but so does location. If you can get near the same money at a warm climate and a chance to make playoffs would you sign with a team with no shot at playoffs??

circumlocution75ParticipantIt takes YEARS to recover from that & the Sixers did it the Right way b/c now they have Several future All Start caliber young players & Still have 6 – 1st round picks & at least 3 will be Lottery picks – it took a full year 2012/13′ season to realize that Bynum was Never playing for the 76ers
so Hinkie took over in May of 2013 & After Only 3 years Now you can focus on "FIT" – but I’d say the 3 year Tank was a Massive success
Look at the Celtics – their Rebuid was Only about 18 months but that’s b/c Danny Aigne did Not give Away 3 – 1st rnd Draft Picks & Starters for a guy who Never played
And the Celtics had High Caliber Veterans they used to trade for good players & more picks
Golden State won 48 games in 2008 & had 3 – 20 ppg (Stephen Jackson, Baron Davis & Monte Ellis) scorers on the team when they decided to an Organized Rebuild & it took Golden State 4 years (Warriors won 23 games in 2012)
The T-Wolves took 10 years to get to where the Sixers are now. So 76ers fans just need to be patient- the Single most important Part of a Rebuild is a Acquiring a Potential Super Star & Only then can a team Build around him – Phila has that w/ Ben Simmons & you have 2 potential #2 options in Embiid or Okafor & a nice #3 option in Saric
It looks like the Sixers will have 2 – top 10 pick sin the crazy deep 2017 NBA Draft – but I would Not Draft a Ball Dominant PG like Lonzo Ball — it’s pretty clear that Simmons more Magic Johnson so I would Draft 2 Pure scorers w/ those Lottery picks – maybe Dennis Smith & Jayson Tatum — u want guys who do Not need the ball to be a scoring threat.
I would have Loved to have seen Simmons & Ingram on the same team – good Lord! – but the Celtics are kind of stuck now, they Really need to get Russell Westbrook or trade that Nets pick next year for Jimmy Butler or Boogie Cousins –
So just be patient – & anyway Spanish Chocolate, Bayless & Henderson w/ Simmons are your Guard rotation next year – that’s a HUGE upgrade over TJ McConnel, Nik Stauskus, Isiah Canaan & Phil Pressy

goddagParticipantYou say it took the Timberwolves 10 years to get to where the Sixers are now? And where’s that? The Timberwolves are years ahead of the Sixers now. It’s going to take a few years for the Sixers to balance their roster out, and even close to the playoffs.

OhCanada-ParticipantThe Wolves are ahead but not by as much as you would think. Simmons/Embiid is very comparable talent level to Wiggins/Towns. Minnesota has great gaurd deoth as well and all around talented young players but one could argue the 76ers have the same kind of depth in the frontcourt. Its not unrealistic to expect the 76ers to cash in on one Top 5 pick and select I high end Gaurd to build around this core going forward. Its hard to say which teams future is the brightest but both seem extremely prosperous and Minnesota seems a year or two ahead of Philly.

circumlocution75ParticipantPhila was One win away from facing Miami in the Eastern Conf Finals just 4 years ago…..
Wiggins is an All Star level but he’s got an Obvious Ceiling – I Luv Towns but he’s Not a Dominant post player
Okafor Destroyed KAT when Phila played the T-Wolves in Minnesota — -What do you think Embiid will do to KAT??? & I would take Ben Simmons over Anyone Drafted in the last 5 years
I Luv Dunn – but the Sixers will get a Better version od Dunnin the 2017 Draft like Markelle Fultz or Dennis Smith or Lonzo Ball AND a Jayson Tatum or Josh Jackson…… 2016 was the T-Wolves Last time in the Top 5 of the Lottery…… Phila could make the Playoffs & they Still got Lottery picks from the Lakers, Kings Twice & Nuggets in 2017, 18 & 19….. Lottery picks – they got a Pipeline for Years
I luv what the T-Wolves got — I think the T-Wovles, Sixers & Lakers got Great young cores — All I’m saying is that Phila got it turned around Fast compared to Minnesota & considering the Bynum trade that’s impressive

Celtics3178ParticipantThe Celtics are in one of the best positions in the nba they are far from stuck. Al Horford is an all star, IT4 is the new Jason Terry, AB was first team all defense, and crowder is a 3 and D energy guy. now let’s talk about the younger guys. Terry rozier has been a beast this summer would be the best guard on the 76ers and he isn’t even going to get minutes once the year starts. Jaylen Brown looks like an absolute beast getting to the basket. He looks like a fierce defender as well and he’s 19. we have Marcus Smart who is a all star on the making. Look at his playoff numbers rookie and sophomore seasons. 14 points 5 rebounds 3 assists 2 steals and a block thats a legit line. Lastly we have a top 3 pick while making the playoffs and getting playoff experience.

markfitz14ParticipantI have no idea why the 76ers are so timid on dealing one of the bigs. Just find a guard you like and make a trade.
I would look into the Suns. They might want to move Bledsoe now that Booker looks good. He would be a nice guard.
Oak for Bledsoe
At least its not making the Celtics better and its a west coast team your sending Oak to.

I would ONLY trade one of those bigs if he turns into a BUST. THEN you wouldn’t be able to get much for him.
Their core is basically all bigs, but Saric can play the 3, and Simmons is a point forward who they will actually play at point guard.
So, essentially, you have 3 bigs (Oak, Embiid, Noel) for the 2 big man spots which is not THAT big of a logjam. Embiid can probably play both spots. Oak is a Tim Duncan type but closer to a 4 man’s size. Noel is a classic small ball center.
I probably wouldn’t draft a big man higher than the second round from here on out.
Didn’t even know they had Jerryd Bayless and Gerald Henderson. Both guys are pedestrian players, but I like TJ McConnell. Those 3 along with the uber-talented Ben Simmons is enough of a backcourt rotation to start off with.
SAVE MONEY to sign all these guys when they come off their rookie deals.
Look to the next 2 or 3 drafts to stockpile wing players, preferably shooting guards, and also some point guard types.
I imagine that we will be talking about who the 76ers should draft in 2017 pretty soon.

VRod305ParticipantFrom what Jerry Jr is running his mouth about, these teams are knocking down the door to trade for a big.
So why the hell hasn’t anything been done yet. Noel for Brandon Knight makes a ton of sense, so I don’t know why it hasn’t happened yet.
We did sign three guards though and have TJ and BS. Those guys can keep the seat warm for our two top-5 picks next year.

HitsterParticipantIf they want a veteran or two in, look for guys who have titles who can ideally play in the backcourt or at SF given how loaded the Philly frontcourt is. Richard Jefferson type player is a good call someone similar to Tayshaun Prince at Minny who has his title so doesn’t need to chase further success especially.
I’m sure that the Colangelo’s have some great contacts so I’d hope they could find an ideal locker room leader for Philly.
If you want a fan suggestion then maybe Philly dangle to chance to reach 3,000 career 3s at Ray Allen and see if he’d come in for a few months with the proviso that come deadline day if a contender comes in for him they will let him move on.
