JoeWolf1This is a very stacked draft class, as well all know, but there are some seniors making a bit of an impact early on in NCAA season that are not on the current mock that could end up playing their way by the end of the year. Mocks at this point of the year are hard to predict, due to the fact we have no idea who may end up leaving, but seniors will be there for sure and I feel these guys could be replacing some names of players currently on the board that choose to stay in school.
Jae Crowder 6’6” 225lbs. – Sr. Marquette – Crowder has really seemed to work on his shooting in the off season and starting off the year on fire. He’s always been a high energy player with good athleticism, but with his increased range he could be a hustle guy picked up in the 2nd round. I’m sure his 58% FG 40% 3 pt and 85% FT shooting will drop a bit as he plays more games, but I doubt by a whole lot. Already a reliable defender, if he keeps up his good shooting and commits to playing D at the next level he could be projected as a hard nosed defensive 3 who can hit an open shot and find himself getting drafted.
Tyshawn Taylor 6’3” 185lbs – Sr. Kansas – After being a projected 1st rounder after his freshman season and impressive FIBA U19 showing, Taylor had almost fallen off the draft map, in part do to his immaturity. Taylor has seemed to mature a bit, with very impressive interviews on Big 12 media day and solid play early on. A very good athlete with a long wingspan, Taylor has started the season off hot shooting 5-9 from 3 point early on and embracing a bigger role with KU this season. If Taylor can manage to not self destruct, he’s an experience player with a nice shooting touch and top end speed that could end up a 2nd rounder by the end of the year.
Kim English 6’6” 200lbs – Sr. Missouri – A long lock down defender from Missouri, English has been in and out of mocks for the past could years, always seeming to fall a little shor of expectations, but has come out on fire this season. 15-23 from the 3 point range early on with an impressive 5 rpg for a guard. English find himself back on team’s draft boards if he continues to play at this pace.

As much as ESPN has tried to hype up this college season, the quality of play has been bad even for the good teams. I know it is early, but the quality of the showcase tv college games is down from last year. Part of that is the calendar and where teams are, but some of it is on the players. I saw Ohio State look good, so I know it is possible. That just isn’t the norm.

JoeWolf1I’ve seen Duke look pretty impressive at times this season. I think when they hit their stride, they could be very dangerous. I think Rivers’ best ball is ahead of him, and Ryan Kelly surprised me quite a bit with his play early on. Their depth is something that will give a lot of teams trouble.

IndianaBasketballParticipantI’ve been watching NCAA ball close since there’s no NBA and I’ve been highly disappointed with the quality of play thus far. It’s early though, so I’m sure it’ll pick up…

JunkYardDogParticipantKim English was very good against at maui against notre dame, playing smart with great confidence and undertsanding of the game.
He put some points, make some good off the ball mouvements and dishing some really clever assists.
I think he could be a great 2nd round pick with his defensive potaential, shooting improvement, senior status (able to bring something on the table right now).

juice304ParticipantThese are some other seniors that could end up in the 2nd round
Tu Holloway-Xavier-explosive scoring point guard-if he was 2-3 inches taller he would go mid first round
Darius Johnson Odom-undersized combo guard-this guy can really score in many different ways
Jordan Taylor-doesn’t really pass the eye test….not all that quick or tall but he really is efficient
Robert Sacre- been known to play sort of soft at times, but 7 footers aren’t all that common-he has actually been playing really well so far this year.

LazarusMunozParticipantthe title of this thread would be a good name for an early 90’s male R&B group…they would all wear letterman’s jackets and sing about making love to your lady on Monday Morning before going to a court hearing for getting in a fight with some bouncer at a bar….damn i wish i had a time machine

JoeWolf1That’s awesome Lazarus, I’d buy that CD.

ProudGrandpaParticipantI Don’t see how Hummel’s not on the mock now, but he is right back to where he was pre-injuries, so expect him to get drafted this summer.

JoeWolf1I think Hummel’s recovery is a great story and I hope he can keep up his good play, but in the NBA draft a 23 year old is over the hill and a 23 year old with a reconstructed knee is someone that will most likely be signed as a free agent to a summer league team.

ProudGrandpaParticipantWhat if he’s 1st team All-Big Ten averaging 22 ppg in the Big 10. It’s not like he’s undersized and it’s not like they force the ball to him at Purdue. I don’t see how you can pass up such a player. He fits in a role as well as a rookie should, so…

JoeWolf1I think he could play his way into the league ( I certainly think he’s better than Steve Novak ) but I really don’t think he’ll get drafted. Take a look at the 1st team All-American teams over the past 10 years, a lot of the top 5 guys in college basketball don’t get drafted, are 2nd rounders or are just obscure names right now.
He would have been a 1st rounder if he would have finished his Jr. year without getting hurt and gone pro, but that’s just kind of the way things go. Any of the 3 guys I listed could go undrafted, so I’m not going to pretend like I know what will happen. I just think Hummel’s knee injury and age will be enough for teams to wait and sign him in the summer. It seems weird since 2nd rounders aren’t guaranteed contracts, but that’s just my opinion.

ProudGrandpaParticipantI think he is like a taller, more versatile Kyle Korver. (AKA, a better Kyle Korver)
Or should I say Kyle "KKK" Korver…http://www.nbadraft.net/forum/chicago-bulls-must-rebuild

aamir543ParticipantI think Hummell will definatly get a shot in the league, maybe a very late draft pick, but most likely an undrafted free agent. His length and shooting ability could help him get onto a team in the summer league, but he’ll have to prove that he has the foot speed to keep up with guys at the next level.
And on a sidenote, Proud Grandpa or Indiana Basketball, have any one of you guys gotten the chance to see Butler yet, assuming you live in the area. I’m wondering whether they have the ability to make another deep tourney run, but they’ll be at a pretty big size advantage nonetheless.

ProudGrandpaParticipantLosing Mack and Howard (and Vanzant and Hahn), they are sort of lacking a go-to scorer. But their freshman class is really making a difference and is going to pick up a lot of the slack, but they’re definitely not as good. I think they will be compeitive in the Horizon League, but I don’t think they can get past both Detroit and Cleveland St., and they are probably not getting an at-large bid. No deep tournament run this year, but they will play in a postseason tournament and get top 3 in the Horizon League.

ProudGrandpaParticipantAs far as size disadvantage, they really won’t have one. Andrew Smith is very capable as is Khyle Marshall, plus they have a freshman, Kameron Woods playing well off the bench. Scoring on the drive will be their main problem.

IndianaBasketballParticipantNo, they do not. Not this year.
