There was a lot of rumors about him coming to the Mavs ,specially back in 2011 but the lockout ended any speculation and then next year the Mavs thought they will have either Dwill or at least Kidd and Nick didn’t wait
Most Mavs fans want him now ,he is 24 already and there is good chance he is better than any Mavs PG ,that said I don’t know how is Cuban thinking ,he has an NBA clause btw

Yes. He is better than any Mavs point guard. He won’t play for Dallas because Cuban won’t let him play for Greece.

Don’t sweat it………….he is one of the most overrated players in Europe. He is shining at Eurocup level………huge difference in how he plays in a big Euroleague club or in the Greek national team.

His level of play has a HUGE drop off at the top European level.

Yes, he’s better than Mavs point guards, but there are numerous MUCH BETTER point guards than Calathes in Europe for the Mavs to sign if they want a point guard from Europe.

Really, in a way, it probably would be a good thing for Greek national team if he did go to the Mavs and they got rid of him playing for them all the time. It would allow a better player like Pappas to finally get in the team.

Calathes did not sign with the Mavs because it was reported that Mark Cuban told him that he could not play for Greece’s national team if he signed a contract with the Mavs.

The Greek national team is more important to Calathes than the NBA. At least for now, while he is young and has a place in the national team every summer.

So if Calathes wanted to play in the NBA, he would have to get traded to a team where the owner will let him play with the Greek national team.

I don’t see Calathes playing NBA next year anyway. He has one more year on his contract in Russia (I think he has an option) but at the money he makes there (it’s like $3 million a season salary in how the NBA counts salary)……..no reason real for him to take an NBA contract that would be a minimum non guaranteed deal – at least that is what Mavs supposedly offered him, and it was said that’s all any other team would offer if they traded for him.

So, he is in the point now where he can make $3 million a season in Europe…….which means it is unlikely he would come to NBA, especially if the owners of NBA teams are going to make not playing for Greece an issue.

Calathes signed a 2 year €2.2 million euros net income contract ,that is around 2.9M$ in 2 years ,considering taxes in texas is probably much less than Russia ,he would easily get more money with the Mavs ,there is nothing said about Mavs rejecting him to play with his NT,really doubt it is anything more than a rumor
And Calathes played in the Euroleague in the last 3 years and won it in 2011 ,he was really good with Panathinaikos

    1. Contracts in Europe are listed in NET MONEY. It’s 2.2 million euros being the amount deposited into the bank account. The NET AMOUNT.

    2. Taxes in Russia = WAY WAY WAY lower than taxes in Texas. WAY LOWER.

    3. Besides that, the Russian contract amount is AFTER taxes anyway.

    4. Calathes himself said Cuban told him he could not play for Greece if he signed with the Mavs.

    5. Calathes sucked almost the whole time he was with Panathinaikos. He was one of the worst players by far on the team the whole 3 years. He played well about once or twice in 1-2 months. He was generally below the level of a standard Panathinaikos player. He was even very much a borderline scrub for much of those 3 years.

    6. You are trolling and are being completely freaking absurd and ridiculous. Please stop it.
