I know that people tend to dislike these stats and discredit it and this measurement is not the end all be all. But, these are the 2010-11 stats 82games.com has for "Clutch Stats". They compile it based on:

4th quarter or overtime, less than 5 minutes left, neither team ahead by more than 5 points

Kind of cool to see it. Keep in mind, it only took the regular season into account. So, I am sure there will be "well what about LeBron in the finals" jokes. Hope their are at least some new ones rather than the same old same old. Does indeed show that LeBron, at least in the regular season, does not appear to ball up into the fetal position in these situations. I had not seen anyone post it yet for this past season.

I came across it while trying to see who made the most game winning shots of All-Time. Really hard stat to find, apparently, Kobe has made 31 over his career. I saw one thing that said Michael Jordan made 26, but he had a commercial saying he missed 26, so I am not sure exactly how many he has made. I doubt it was 50%, just a feeling. He was amazing, but people miss game winners more than they make them, just a trend I noticed. Well, interested in seeing your comments. Just posted the Top 30, rest is here:

I think I saw on one of MJ’s websites that he had 33 game-winning shots throughout his career.

5 minutes is a lot of time and it also doesn’t take who won the game into account. I take these stats with a grain of salt. 82games.com could get more detailed, which is why I just don’t take these stats all that seriously. I don’t like how they determine who’s clutch or not.

Again, you take it with a grain of salt, but 5 minutes is not that much time. I agree that they should take into account who won and lost, but I think it is meant to show what happens in really close games. It obviously at least narrows things down to when games are kind of in the nitty gritty. It could be done better, but it still shows some statistics of how these players seem to react in these situations.

Honestly though, is this list really that bad or surprising? It is incredibly difficult to gauge ones "clutch" ability. The ultimate complaint about a player is that they "fail in the clutch" or "lack killer instinct". That used to be said about Dirk Nowitzki constantly, and is usually what gets thrown around when a player does not win rings. It would be great to dig into the statistics even deeper, but this was just one resource I found. If someone could find a better one, that would be awesome. But, it tells us that defense is tighter at the end of tight games and that the best players get the ball a lot. I am sure there are other distinguishing statistics I could bring up, but take it as you will.

@WizardofOz: If you have the link to the website, that would be awesome. Of course we know the Cleveland shot over Ehlo and the "Last Shot" Utah 1998 (Sort of push-off, MJ. Though, I think the only people who care are Bryon Russell and the Jazz nation). North Carolina 1982 as well. 33 sounds plausible, though I would think that he missed more than 26. 33-59 would be unbelievable, if it were true. I wish they had an accessible stat for Game Winning shots, kind of like they do for Game Winning Goals in hockey. It would obviously have to be shots that sealed the game by 3 points or fewer I would hope, or something to that extent rather than just shots that put the score out of reach, but I would love to find out who hit the most. I can think of about 4 I could think of LeBron hitting, 3 of them in the Play-offs, though only one being a buzzer beater (Orlando 2009. The other two were a game winner he made against Washington right near the end and Game 5 against Detroit in 2007).

"nice" info, but doesn’t tell enough of the story. I notice Dirk is the only post in the top 20ish (AJeff 19 AStoud 20).  Post attempts in final 3min is a BIG factor. Assist % is also a biggie for these type players.

Also it appears Tyrus Thomas is on this list so it is irrelevant

What i find interesting is that the top 4 players on +/- are four Mavs, Terry, Kidd, Nowitzki, Chandler, and Kidd has a Ast % of 100.

What I find interesting how everyones FG% drops tremendously in these situations, whether because of fatigue or increaded defensive intesity… Except for Eric Gordon who shot a rediculous 55-53-93 in late game situations, and I honestly think this is indicative of his superior athleticism and big game mentality.

Eric Gordon still very underrated. His late game play has improved every season. He takes and makes big shots. He makes his free-throws. He’s also unselfish and knows when to make the pass. He also plays very good defense in the clutch.
