quinceyh1yeah but lets not do the hindsight thing lets think about what there potential was at the time
D.Miles was thought to one day become a allstar
Dermarr Johnson was in the same boat (a 6’9 sg who was so talented that as a H.S Jr teams said he would have been a top 5 pick)Fizer, man child who was thought to have all star potential.
Cleevs, thought to be a long time starter that would be on a title team because he was a natural leader
Q-Rich – freshman who dominated in college so the potential was thought to be highStromile Swift- What you see Anthony Davis doing is what Stomile was doing in H.S

aamir543ParticipantI know we are saying that this is a terrible draft, but we may wrong. And honestly, we won’t know anything until a year from now. After a players first season in the NBA, we are able to see what kind of player they will become. This is true 80% of the time. Of course there are exceptions, but I don’t think we can complain with the recent talent boom in the League.

ilike.panochasParticipantBut just on upside alone, the 2000 class had so many talented prospects, compared to low upside prospects in 2011 draft. You had a freshman PG with Jamal Crawford going #8 overall, if he was in the 2011 draft, he would be in the top 5 and ahead of Brandon Knight and Kemba. But as talented as the 2000 class were, most of them were also raw prospects.

NYCarolinaParticipantLooking at that 2000 draft, you can tell this draft was weak, on the simple fact of guys like Etan Thomas was a top 15 pick. Man was average his senior year at SU. That draft, even with the potential going in for players like Miles and Swift, was a weaker draft.
I think the 2011 draft will surprise alot of people. In terms of stars? Not much. In terms of good players who can develop to above average? I think we have 6-10 good players who can be that. Also, this 2011 draft seems to have a good amount of "fringe" role players. Guys like Travis Leslie, David Lighty, Jacob Pullen, Jamie Skeen and such have potential to be good role players later in their careers.

quinceyh1one thing is for sure, with Henson, sullinger,Jones,Zeller,T.Robinson,Tristan(so far),Barnes,Mason returning that opens up 8 spots for guys who would have have been second round picks and 8 guys who will be in the lotto who would have gone in the late first round

sheltwon3ParticipantI think this draft may wind up being better than many thought because you are getting a lot of guys that should come in and be ready. Also in a draft where there is not many clear cut guys you can experiment and not get clowned as much. This is a draft where the team that has the best scout will succeed more than anybody else. Some teams will make good moves based on dumb luck.

sheltwon3ParticipantDarius Miles could have still been good but he got injured. It seems Portland has a history of guys getting injured. If I was an NBA player, i would be worried about playing for them just like the Clippers whose players have had some key injuries.

sheltwon3ParticipantFizer had NBA talent but a bad attitude and pissed the wrong people off.

quinceyh1Miles never showed more than being able to dunk and score on the fast break

bigblackNbeautifulParticipantThe one huge difference I personally see is the talent coming in from other countries in this draft. The Euro players in this draft are probably some of the better prospects that europe has had in the last few years. 2000 didnt have that at all. But if you take away the Euro prospects then this draft would not nearly be as good as it could be. I think this draft will produce alot of role players. Rebounders like Faried, shooters like Klay Thompson, and defenders such as lighty are always wanted pieces for teams and I think this draft has a good number of those players. But I honestly feel that this draft will have some of the best new euro talent in the league. Dont be suprised to see Ricky Rubio if he comes over and players such as vesley, kanter, valanciunas, Montiejunas or even a bogdanovic(if he declares and comes over) fighting for that honor if there is in fact a 2011 season.

TheLastWordParticipantOne of these international guys is going to be really, really good. My money is on Valencunias. He is billed as an underweight, defensive oriented center, but his amazing touch at the free throw line tells me their is quite a bit of offenive upside as well.
