laarethekingsParticipantMost trades get killed, but anyways here we go.
1.Cavs and Lakers
Pau Gasol for Anderson Varejao, Tyler Zeller and a 1st round pick ( top 20 protected )
Reason- The Cavs have said they want to make a move for the payoffs. Just signing Bynum was great, but would you trust a season on Bynum’s knees? Pau and Bynum have played together already winning it all. Plus it would allow you to bring Bynum off the bench. Starting Pau and Thompson as the C/PF combo.
For the Lakers it’s rebuild time in LA. You get Zeller a nice young looking big man. A late first that can turn into a bench player and Varejao which you could flip or let walk at the end of the season.
2. Pelicans and Lakers
Jordan Hill for Austin Rivers
Reason- Pelicans get a backup PF/C still only 25 that played with a PER of 18 last year. Don’t really have big men that want to be and play around the basket. Could backup Davis and Anderson or maybe Asik if they trade for him.
For the Lakers, Taking a shot that you could get something out of Rivers. Maybe a nice 6th man role off the bench as a scorer when it’s all said and done and the Lakers have redone their roster.

Sewok15ParticipantGasol has twice the salary this season as Varejao and Zeller combined so I don’t know if Cleveland is at the salary cap number yet but with signing Bynum I would imagine this deal would put them over and therefore not be allowed by league rules unless the salaries match.
Austin Rivers was awful as a rookie and isn’t ready to be a 6th man on a bad team so even though the Lakers bench is atrocious I would prefer Nick Young over Rivers.
That is at least 25 Lakers posts this month…I would say they equal the total of just about every other team in the Western Conference combined.

MopgrassParticipantAustin Rivers is awful. Jordan Hill is a great role player and will probably be part of the Lakers rebuild.
The problem with trading Gasol is that, not only can they not get equal value for him, but they are more likely to get him next year than other teams and probably at a discount. Why ruin that? He’s still quite productive.
I’d like to see them trade Meta for Jimmer Fredette. The Kings need a SF, they have the space, it’s only for a year, and they have a glut of PG’s. The Lakers could use more outside shooters, someone to give Nash a break, and someone to score when Kobe isn’t in the lineup. It’s not like the Lakers were going to play defense anyway.
Really, I’d just like to see Jimmer get some minutes somewhere.

Sewok15ParticipantMetta was amnestied and no longer on the roster. Also that trade would have made zero sense for the Kings.

PhogifyParticipantYou’re right about Metta being amnestied. But to be fair, if that trade was possible it would actually make a lot of sense for the Kings, I wouldn’t understand it for the Lakers though.

Sewok15ParticipantHow would adding a veteran SF who makes almost 8 million in the last season of his contract make any sense for the Kings who are nowhere near a playoff contender?

Darius22ParticipantPelicans aren’t going to give up on rivers yet he improved at the end of the year and not for a backup center

Sewok15ParticipantThey just keep coming out of the woodwork….this is at least the 15th “What should the Lakers do” thread this month.
