Everyone seems to agree that eventually a 16 will beat a 1, but everyone also seems to agree every year that it won’t happen this year. Something has to give!

So who has the best shot at it this year?

    UMBC (24-10)
    LIU (18-16)
    Radford (22-12)
    Penn (24-8)
    NCC (19-15)
    TS (15-19)

I think Penn is the strongest team of this bunch, but they’re matched up with Kansas, who is not the weakest of the 1-seeds.

Anyone dare to firmly predict a historical upset?!

I’d go with either Penn or Radford to make some noise

I’m not saying UMBC will beat Virginia. but the way Virginia plays, they aren’t going to blow anybody out.  All it would take would be for them to have a poor shooting night and they could be in trouble.

of this bunch, I like UMBC to keep it at least within shouting distance.  Also, I think #15 Georgia State will beat Cinci, maybe handily.

I don’t think any of the 16 seeds win this year. I’ve got all the 1 seeds advancing to the sweet 16 they all just seem like solid teams and Virginia may lack offensive firepower but Kyle Guy makes big plays for these guys when they need it.

The lower ranked team I see making a run is #14 Stephen F. Austin. I have them losing to Wichita St. in the elite 8 beating Texas Tech, Florida and Butler (not too sure about that last one honestly). They put alot of pressure on the ball and force mistakes and in high stakes situations when your nerves are going and adrenaline is high I’ve always personally been more comfortable trying to stop the ball then makle a play with the ball. Texas Tech is SFA’s first opponent and they have been losing alot lately and if they win that game I have them playing Florida which would be a very interesting game. Florida has the fewest turnovers in college basketball while SFA has forced the most turnovers this year.

If and when it does happen, it will be the second-biggest story of the entire tournament, outside of the champions. If a usual suspect wins the title, it may be the biggest story.

It’s really interesting to me how the pressure for 1s to beat 16s grows every year, as their cumulative undefeated record grows. I think when it does happen, that pressure will play a big part of it.
