Boys’ basketball: Chino Hills runs past Corona Centennial, 102-76

Share

At some point this coming basketball season, teams might figure out how to deal with Chino Hills’ extraordinary fast pace, but this summer, it’s unlikely any team is going to be able to successfully counter the running Huskies.

On Friday night in a semifinal game of the Fairfax tournament, Chino Hills defeated Corona Centennial, 102-76. For two weeks since the three Ball brothers started playing together, Chino Hills has been closing in on 100 points and finally surpassed that total. It could become routine in the winter.

LiAngelo Ball scored 28 points, freshman LaMelo Ball had 20 points and Lozno Ball added 15 points. Ike Anigbogu had 31 points for Centennial. Chino Hills advances to Saturday’s 6 p.m. final against Crespi.

It will be interesting to see Crespi’s strategy against the Huskies. The Celts held off Mater Dei, 61-52, in the semifinals. MJ Cage showed up late, helped Mater Dei rally to take the lead before De’Anthony Melton led a Celts surge. He finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Brandon Williams had 20 points.

Fairfax defeated Long Beach Poly, 56-49, in a consolation game.
