Boys’ basketball: La Mirada is 3-0 after victory over Servite

Defending state Division II champion La Mirada is off to a 3-0 start after a 59-55 victory over Servite on Thursday night in the Canyon tournament.

Anthony Newman scored 20 points and freshman Bryce Carver added 16 points. La Mirada will face Anaheim Canyon on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

In the Maranatha tournament, Jacob Davison scored 19 points in Cantwell-Sacred Heart’s 61-51 win over Westlake. Marantha defeated Muir, 67-59, in overtime. Sean Romero had 18 points. Tyler Goodlow had 17 points and Chris Austin 16. Darius Henderson led Muir with 17 points.

In the Westchester tournament, JW North advanced to the semifinals with a 75-72 overtime win over St. Bernard. Westchester defeated Campbell Hall, 77-47. In a consolation game, Peninsula defeated Washington, 51-41.

In the Corona Centennial tournament, Chino Hills (3-0) defeated Great Oak, 102-57. LaMelo Ball scored 30 points, LiAngelo Ball had 30 points and Lonzo Ball 28 points. Etiwanda defeated Rancho Christian, 68-60. Garrett Carter had 18 points. Lucas Siewert had 34 points in Cathedral’s 71-58 win over Roosevelt.

In Arizona, St. Francis (0-2) lost to Colorado Faith Christian, 70-61. Joey Walsh and Malakhi Jensen had 14 points apiece.

In the St. Monica tournament, Santa Monica won the championship with a 60-33 win over South Gate. Tournament MVP Jonah Mathews had 16 points. Birmingham took third place with a 75-71 win over La Salle. Adrian Byrd-Jelinek had 16 points and made all-tournament. L.A. University defeated St. Monica, 51-47. Jude Agbasi scored 20 points and made the all-tournament team.

Sophomore Wayne Arnold scored 30 points in Dominguez’s 61-57 win over Ocean View.

Tarbut V’Torah is 4-0 aftr a 59-27 win over La Sierra. Brandon Averitt scored 28 points and had 11 rebounds.

Cleveland (5-0) defeated Chavez, 74-47. Michael Wade and Roman Morales had 17 points apiece.

Mission Viejo defeated Eisenhower, 78-64. Chandon Hutchison had 18 points and Chris Meyer added 16 points and nine rebounds.

Kaden Rasheed scored 27 points in Santa Margarita’s 103-58 win over Bell-Jeff.

Walnut defeated Villa Park, 65-62. Crenshaw defeated Burton, 93-85. Ryan Campbell had 27 points and Lamar Harris added 22 points.

Orange Lutheran is 3-0 after a 76-43 win over Huntington Beach. Chris Williams had 18 points and KaVaughn Scott 16. Camarillo defeated Ventura, 65-61, in overtime. Evan Thomas had 15 points.

Deshay Gipson had 24 points in Highland’s 72-48 win over Palisades.

In a semifinal game of the San Dimas tournament, Rancho Cucamonga defeated San Dimas, 51-47. Toby Okwuoki had 15 points and six assists. Rancho Cucamonga will play Ayala in Saturday’s 7:30 p.m. final.

Damien improved to 3-0 with a 76-32 win over Monrovia. Bryce Peters had 28 points.
