Player of the Week
Ben McLemore, Kansas
McLemore continues to impress with the improvements he’s making to his game mid-season. He’s found his stroke from deep (39.5% on the season now), and his shot selection continues to improve overall. He has always had the raw talent, but the skill and basketball IQ we are starting to see is quite outstanding. Scouts and other NCAA coaches are definitely taking notice of the talented young wing.
Who’s Hot
Melvin Ejim, Iowa State
Ejim has continued on his breakout junior year recently and now sits atop the Big 12 conference in rebounding per game at 9.3. Ejim has been a force for the Cyclones this year with four double-doubles on the year, as well improved shooting from the floor and he’s also added to his ability to shoot from behind the arc. Don’t be surprised to see him make an all Big 12 team at the end of the year.
Who’s Not
Sheldon McClellan, Texas
After starting the year off on a scoring rampage, McClellan has seen a steady dip in production as the season has progressed. Over his last 5 games he’s shot 18/55 (32.7%) from the floor and his season average has now fallen all the way to 38%. While he’s showing improved rebounding, his scoring woes have been tough on Texas, especially because he’s not much of a passer (0.9 apg). If McClellan keeps this up Texas may have to look at giving some of his minutes to Julien Lewis.
