With multiple teams playing in neutral site tournaments over the past week and weekend, many teams had breaks from the start of the week all the way to the weekend. But with those tournaments brought some Big East champions, like St. John’s, Creighton and Butler.

Ty-Shon AlexanderTy-Shon AlexanderComing in at the top this week in the Big East is Creighton’s Ty-Shon Alexander. Alexander erupted this past week for the Bluejays, leading them to the Cayman Island Classic title.

Bol BolBol Bol7’2 freshman, Bol Bol has been an intimidating presence for the Ducks through the team’s first five games. Against a 15th ranked Syracuse team, Bol went for 26 points, nine rebounds, and an impressive four blocks in the 15 point win. The son of former NBA player, Manute Bol, is also a very efficient player. He shot 11 for 17 from the field including a deep three ball.

Scoring Machine

With just a little over a week in the books for the Big East, there are many takeaways. Each team has at least two games played and many things happened that were expected, surprising and flat out amazing. With such a small sample size thus far, it’s tough to distinguish many player’s performances from the others, but here are the biggest takeaways from the first week.

Lagerald VickLagerald VickAfter having a subpar outing versus Michigan State on opening day, the senior guard was able to come back with back-to-back impressive performances to cap off this week's slate of games.

During the 84-68 victory over Vermont, Vick poured 32 points on 12-14 shooting, including a perfect 8-8 from three point land.

DeAndre HunterDeAndre HunterOn Friday night, the Virginia Cavaliers obliterated Coppin State in a 57 point beatdown—the program's third largest margin of victory. It should be no surprise that Virginia is the conference’s best defensive team once again. But if the team continues to shoot lights out like it did on Friday, the Cavaliers are the team that every ACC opponent hopes to avoid.
