Another week of college basketball is in the books, and the Big 12 had some great games from some unexpected teams, and some terrible games by teams that were supposed to be at the top of the conference. Oklahoma struggled with Abilene Christian, while Iowa State could not pull away from Indiana State and dropped a game to a talented Gonzaga Bulldogs squad. The Texas Longhorns continued their shaky non-conference start with a loss to Colorado in their only game of the week.

Fresh Start

The farther we get into conference play, the more we begin to realize who is going to contend or pretend in the SEC. The SEC boasts the No. 1 ranked team in the country in Kentucky, but other than that, no other squad holds a ranking next to their name. But, that does not mean Kentucky will have no competition when conference play begins. Despite no other team being ranked, South Carolina and Florida have flawless records and are knocking on the door to earn respect from the AP poll and the rest of the country.

It was an exciting week in the Big 12 with games in full swing and marquee matchups across the board. Kansas rebounded from their tough loss to Indiana with a nice victory over Duke in the Champions Classic. Baylor made their statement to be the top contender with a lopsided victory over the Oregon Ducks, who were ranked 4th at the time. Guard play looks to be a theme in the conference this year, with players lighting up the scoreboards from backcourts around the conference (we’ll get to some of that shortly).

Forever Young

After going 18-1 in the opening weekend of hoops, the ACC came back to Earth a little this week. The league finished 28-7 with a few key victories and a few losses that potential contenders would love to have back. There were great performances all around the league and quite a few from players you haven't heard of...yet. Clemson is the only team with multiple losses on the season and just haven't looked the same since their opening night win against Georgia.

Talk about a start to the season.

Big East teams have won 15 of 16 games played this year. The conference’s only loss so far was Georgetown falling to top 25 Maryland by a single point.

I don’t think there has been any surprise with the top dog, Villanova. Their road win against Purdue was a fantastic game, but the experienced Wildcats were able to pull away towards the end. Josh Hart, a Preseason All-American, looked absolutely unstoppable driving to the rim.
