Lotto StudParticipantOver last past 3-4 months, I’ve seen a shift in prospect shifts as far as the bigs go. Jaren Jackson Jr. started to circulate heavy around February-March, out of nowhere; Wendell Carter Jr. had his run, as well as DeAndre Ayton all season long. Now that Mohamed Bamba is the trending topic of discussions, everyone tends to place Marvin Bagley III on the back-burner.

KIP BallerParticipantI agree. He is one of the best pf prospects we have seen in years and fits today’s game perfectly. He is certainly being overlooked. Solid and improving 3pt shot, athleticism to switch into guards, plays hard. I expect him to be one of the top pf’s over the next generation.

The GoatParticipantI think theres a reason hes the one you dont hear about – no one has fluctuated on him because they dont need to. Everyone knows he’s solid and is in the top 4. He could even go 1. Hes the safest pick in the draft for mine.

negguaryParticipantwill likely be the best player in this draft!

RUDEBOY-ParticipantI hope the Kings & Hawks Continue to view him as a 4 gotten man. And he ends up being selected by my Grizzlies. Perfect compliment to Gasol.

RUDEBOY-ParticipantThere r some legit concerns about Bagley’s interior defense. His ability to block shots, he averaged less than a block a game. And only 1 made 3 all season. But there have been several bigs like Sabonis, Randle who didn’t shot 3s in college, but have improved in that area since being a pro. Whoever Draft s him might play play him at the 5 until his perimeter shooting improves. It would help him tremendously if played next to and learned under the tutelage of a high iq Big like Gasol.

ChrispyParticipantHe made 23 of 58. A small sample size, but still roughly 40% from 3…

HobbyOGParticipantDoubt he falls past 3. The Hawks are in love with him.

r377ParticipantHe is def a safe pick. I can see him being at least a 16-8 guy. When you think of prev T-Robb, Anthony Bennett, Derrick Williams he should be a pretty safe bet @ 3 or 4

nick5354ParticipantI feel like T-Robb and Derrick Williams were both considered a safe bet in the lead up to the draft. I remember people saying to pick Williams over Kyrie as he was a safer bet due to injuries and the fact cavs had another pick to draft a PG. T-Rob was also seen as a real bull that would get constant production and hard to bust.
I feel like guys that are seen as safe bets often don’t turn out as so. Although they don’t have high potentional and are seen as safer to hit there mid range comps. it often means they don’t an ablity to lock down one position or skill and they in turn struggle to ring a role in the league.
I feel like there are still questions over Bagley. Will he get stronger? Is he able to turn himself into a consistent defender? What if he doesn’t shot the ball as good in the NBA and if so what can he do well if he isn’t able to strech the floor. It is interesting, but I don’t see him as safe as others see him.

r377ParticipantI meant he looks safer than those guys mentioned although Williams was a beast in college.
Last "safe picks" I went with was Oladipo and Otto Porter

Jr. ROXASParticipantBagley with Marc Gasol will be scary on offense. Hope Bagley falls that far cause if so, I think that alone will make them at least a fringe playoff team with Mike Conley also being back.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantHe doesn’t really have a very refined skill set at this point. At duke he dominated almost strictly off being bigger and more athletic than the guys guarding him, advantages that won’t be nearly as pronounced at the next level. His post moves and face up game still need refinement, as does his shooting/passing/defensive awareness. But of course, you are talking about someone who really should be a freshman in college this year, so there is plenty of time for him to improve.
I think part of the hesitation with bagley is that with the way the nba is trending right now, he definitely projects as a 5 right now, even though he clearly probably would’ve primarily played 4 in past generations. While he has the athletic tools and mobility to develop into a competent defender in time, his short arms will probably limit his effectiveness as a shot-blocker and rim protector, particularly compared to guys like ayton, bamba and Jackson. Can you really build your team around a 5 that doesn’t protect the rim in this day and age and does he bring enough to the table to outweigh the potential defensive liability issues? These are questions I’m sure gms are weighing with bagley.
