OhCanada-ParticipantDecided I’d do one of these a day until the season restarts. Today its a battle of the SG position.

armchairgmParticipantThis is a very close one, but I lean towards Devin Booker because I feel he has the higher upside to grow still.

bt102ParticipantI feel Donovan Mitchell still has more room to grow than Devin Booker. Donovan came out of college with defense being the main part of his game, and that hasn’t fully translated over yet. It’s definitely close, and as of right now, I would take Booker, but I think Mitchell could be better in a couple years.

RUDEBOY-Participantboth were the 13th pick in their drafts….both players r the same age, despite booker being drafted 2 yrs earlier….
both guys have exceeded expectations…there arent many people who expected them to become all nba players……but if im picking between the 2… im rolling with booker…better shooter, slightly better scorer & passer…i think if u switch them, the jazz will still be a playoff team..and the suns will still be on the outside looking in….
in fact i think the jazz would be a better team with booker……becuz his passing ability will allow conley some freedom to score more….. and relieve him of some of the ball handling duties……something that happened in memphis when he played with a good passer and playmaker in marc gasol…

canadabasketballisrisingParticipantvery close- the fact that booker is a better shooter and 5 inches taller despite mitchell’s athleticism gives the edge to booker in my mind

airguytonParticipantGive me donavan Mitchell. Better athleticism and solid shooter. And he has Utah in the playoffs.

jmackParticipantI am going Mitchell simply because Booker has no clue how to play D

sniperParticipantMitchell’s pretty good on offense and pretty good on defense. Booker’s great on offense, poor on defense. I’d rather have a player with Mitchell’s profile — you can build around him with guys that will increase his efficiency. But if your best player doesn’t contribute on D, that’s always gonna be a problem.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantI’m not sure either of these guys is best served as a lead option and both may be slightly overstretched in their roles right now. Booker is the better offensive player right now. Scores more efficiently than mitchell, better outside shooter and better at creating open looks for teammates. His offensive game is just more smooth and natural, whereas Mitchell has a tendency to seem like he is forcing the issue. He is much better off the ball than Mitchell. Mitchell is the better overall athlete and defender. If I had to choose one I’m going with Booker. His lack of focus and intensity on defense is concerning but I at least feel like he has the physical tools to be average on that end if he committed himself and didn’t have such a ridiculous offensive load. I see Mitchell as a guy that could always be somewhat streaky and inefficient.

CynthiaParticipantMitchell will have a better prime, his athleticism and defense are well above Booker’s. However, Booker will have a longer career due to his shooting. At some point I see Booker becoming a 3pt assassin, even if that’s his only role. Legit 3pt shooters tend to have very long careers, look at guys like Korver, Kapono or even further back Dale Ellis, no athleticism and no defense. This is the path I see for Booker, right now he’s pretty good overall on offense but I think he will end up simply a shooter.
Mitchell shoots about as good as Booker right now but Mitchell doesn’t have a specialty, he’s kind of all over the place which again will make for a great prime, but I don’t see Mitchell ever converting from athletic monster to spot-up shooter like Ray Allen. There’s really no wrong answer though, both are good and will be good for a long time, it comes down to who fits your team better.

2quick4uParticipantAbsolutely D.Mitchell.
He had a historical Rookie season achieving things that only another guard named Jordan did… Then his series against OKC in that rookie season were anthological putting on a show against a team loaded with 3 ALL-NBA players…
We have to remember that those Jazz during Mitchell’s rookie season were meant to win 30-35 games after Hayward left the team and absolutely no one thought they would make the playoffs.. not only that but the player who was supposed to replace Hayward as the main offensive force, Rodney Hood, didn’t perform as expected and also left the team after 39 games and then also Exum got injured after 14 games…
Yes, sure Gobert is absolutely vital for this team’s success, but D.Mitchell took absolute charge on offense since day one and few players in the league have had to carry such load and have done it with such success.
D.Booker in the other hand is just a volume scorer with no impact in the game, just in the likes of players like Cousins, K.Love (in MIN) or B.Beal… He’s the type of player that will never be a 1st option on a good playoff team but in the other hand he could be a great 2nd option just like A.Davis or K.Irving.
